1: what the first Album I bought was With my own money it was one of those record of the month things where you get 8 or 12 up front, then you're supposed to buy one every month. I selected a variety of stuff including Ozzy - Diary of a Madman, Metallica - Master of Puppets, Judas Priest - Turbo, Madonna - Don't remember which one, Heart - One of the pop singles with "nothing at all" on it. Coincidentally the writer of that song came to my school to talk about his job. He'd written Disco Duck years before as well.
The first album I had was a BeeGees one. I don't know that title but it had Tragedy on it I remember, also it was both me and my brothers so we had to share. We were really young.
2: what the first single I bought was I never bought a single until more recently. My wife wanted a Robbie Williams or Maybe the Shannon Noll Lift single... can't remember.
3: what was the first Concert I ever went to was... ...put on in a park by a hippie band called The Purple Turtles. They weren't that good and it was hot and I was thirsty and wanted to leave but had to wait for my friends. I think the cops shut it down if I remember right, because they weren't supposed to be there playing. People used to just distribute flyers for stuff like this, and keg parties as well, and there'd be a small entry fee with heaps of people showing up but obviously the cops would end up picking up flyers as well, so they always showed up to the keg parties and often had to arrest a person or two so everyone else would get the idea that they had to leave. It was under-age drinking. I never went to another concert until my wife wanted to see Robbie Williams. I wasn't thrilled but he was slightly entertaining. Sneaky Sound System opened for him before they had achieved any fame.
1. Album Among my memorable first albums that I bought with my own money were: Prince (Parade incl. Kiss), A-ha (Hunting High and Low incl. Take on me), Police (Synchromicity incl. Every Breath You Take), U2 (The Joshua Tree incl. With or Without You), Michael Jackson (Bad) and various Eurythmics and Annie Lennox albums and last but not least an awsome Aretha Franklin greatest hits album (incl. Respect, Think, Chain of Fools). Since the LPs (vinyl records) were pretty expensive I was very careful with my music choice which somehow changed a lot in the CD era.
1. Single I haven't bought many singles but one of them that I can remember was e.g. Terence Trent D'Arby's Dance Little Sister which my sister and I were crasy about, not only about the music. I think that we later on bought also the album.
1. Concert At the time I loved to spend whole weekends at some mostly regional open air festivals. That was more about meeting friends, smoking pot, falling in love, etc. than about music. Some of the most memorable concerts which usually also happened to be in summer were e.g.: U2, Pink Floyd, Clapton, Stones, Prince and some Itallian rock stars which at the time were very popular in my part of the world such as e.g. Gianna Nannini and Zucchero. Unlike today the ticket prices were quite affordable, though.
Gene Vincent and Little Richard, so so talented. I am not that conversant in regards to Muddy Waters but bet that Concert was a beauty! Notice the Young'uns aren't participating?! Don't you guys buy CD's (as they are these days) or go to live concerts?
I too loved the Vengaboys and have considered entering them for this sound, but I've instead vouched for something a little different to my already varied offerings.
And my pre-pubescent taste in music was about as bad as Dara's.
Yes, Paula, please enter ! Otherwise I will do it for you . . .
And this is for you, Dara and the young eblah crew in general:
When I was a child I used to listen mainly to music which I could understand. I only started learning English and other foreign languages when I was a 12/13 years old girl. This is a new version of "99 Red Balloons" which originally was released in 1983 and at the time became an international hit, even in the US. Nena recently celebrated her 50th birthday, she now has children of her own and even has a grandchild. Incredible but true. A cool granny, isn't she ?!
Yeah, almost. She celebrated this year her 50th birthday and the vid is from 2009. When I saw her on TV on that birthday party I first thought she might be 40 max. Btw. I don't think she was doing any surgery. At least she doesn't look that way.
