I had a PM from Admin this morning.  Here is part of that PM:

... I'm actually looking at upgrading the forums at the end of Jan/early Feb... May be worth starting a suggested feature thread for the planned upgrade?

So if there is anything you'd like to see in this site upgrade, post it here.

I have made sticky/locked threads in three other forums alerting people to this.

P.S I have recently alerted admin to the request made by The_Pragmatic_One, re being taken to the last comment in a thread when you click in the last action box.

I have picked out a few suggestions (complete with the name of the person suggesting them in the quote, so that people don't think I am trying to take the credit).  If you find I have not posted a suggestion that you think is good one, please post it here.

I still haven't figured out how to just display a single post or anchor the page to one.  On the Admin post, I think it would be a good idea to put a sticky in this forum simply stating that it's copied and pasted from another part of the site.  It puts a different direction on how discussion goes and honestly it makes that section easier to take more seriously.  I hardly ever clicked there because I reckoned a blog on the forum was kind of... well kind of silly and in its current presentation it really does make a reader want to respond to the writer personally.  A sticky at the least I guess if not a clever renaming of the section... Enews TV Report or something.  Terry's TV Report.
I haven't really been much in the section and have myself twice picked on the content when I've only read maybe 4 or 5 things and it's more the presentation when I look at it from the perspective described because it's pretty easy to think "A blog?  ... where did that come from?" and then be insensitive to this strange person who's appeared and taken over part of the board... You have to remember that many of us didn't know who Terry was nor think a blog is usually a good thing unless we're goggling hardware or have a rare software issue or something.  It felt a little intrusive to have the section appear from nowhere and without any knowledge of just.... it was confusing...

Can we please get rid of this emoticon:

I think lol in capitals would emphasise more what people are laughing at, since that emoticon up there looks like the person is drunk or something

Quoted from Gizmo

I suggest it is time to reconfigure the expletive editing on the board. . . I can't mention a famous shop that sells electronics because it has the D word in it. . ( and many men have the same name . .

But a new member can post anywhere they like with this on show.

Maybe after you post, the page could automatically be at the bottom, after the new screen loads.

Do people think it would be good to make the first post in each thread "sticky"?

That way when there becomes multiple pages of that thread the first post will always be at the top of each page.

This would be useful for the games section (listing the rules) as well as for various other threads (outlining the context/issues to be covered in thread, etc).

A controversial topics section.

For those of us that like to discuss serious issues and its not appropriate for chit chat.

A non moderated section that doesn't count towards post count.

I disagree with deleting the smiley and the page being automatically brought to the bottom after a post!

Can we please have different colour schemes?

In the upgrade, is there a way to stop bots appearing to sign up as members, eg the Yahoo! Bot and the Googlebot?

If i remember correctly there used to be an option to go to the last read post which used to be useful.

Can I vote against this idea as i have found that most forums that do this most members worry about their post too much so they don't post what they really believe allowing the forum to become too much in the favor of group ideas which lacks important disagreement to the normal view.

Thanks for the input, me.  I'd never thought of it like that.

I do not like the idea of + or - on posts. I agree with 'me' on that point. Too much can go awry with that.

The only thing that REALLY bugs me is that the word dick gets censored. I mean, the word penis occassionally gets thrown around on the boards (usually in the Weird, Wonderful Headlines thread ), so I don't see why the "D word" would be any more offensive than the literal term. I can understand if the word d---head was censored though.

Really, the only words that should be censored are the "F" and "C" words.

And yes, I would love to be able to write "lol" in upper caps without having it turn into a smiley.

I would also like the emoticon box to expand a little. I hate opening a separate window (which takes forever to load), just to look for a specific smiley.

I agree.
Yeah 'me' that's true I hadn't thought of that. It seemed fun. I wouldn't post agreeing with someone just to get + rep though.

How about new colours/ pick a skin for the forums?

An arcade with high score tables Some forums have them. I have no idea if that's hard or not.

Make the games thread not count towards post total
