I have two Cocker Spaniels, Cindy is 6years old and is beautiful and Bambi another female is nearly 5 months and just so cute. I also have two cats, mine who is now nearly 11 years old and is really grumpy except with me she just adores me and Bella who is about 9 and looks very much like Sylvester and she is very fluffy but turned really really fat when we moved to Queensland and in the past month lost dramatic amounts of weight and is now underweight but has started gaining weigt again.. Also I have a canary who is 10years old and two budgies who i have nearly had for a year, pets have been a huge thing in my life, and I couldnt imagine my life without them.... we also used to have fish but we gave them away to family when we moved and im also getting three more budgies in a few weeks!!

Soooo yer how about you guys?

I have a black CAT, called Jasmin. I once read "that dogs have masters and cats have slaves" and I believe this.

Rather than start a new thread I'll ask this here.

I am currently living alone (again) in a townhouse right near a nice beach and a dog friendly park. I'm lucky in that mine is the only unit in the block that has a decent sized "L" shaped yard (about half the size of a standard suburban backyard) and it backs onto a nature reserve.

I really want a dog and did start to look around. I quickly found out I had to forget the idea of a puppy as I would have to leave it alone from 6:30AM to 5:00PM each workday and the odd Saturday or Sunday. So I am now looking around for something around 2 to 3 years old.

Can anyone recommend a good small (not yappie) to medium size dog that would be OK to be left alone for around 8 hours? I have great neighbours who would look in and check the dog if I ask. I would walk it everyday and take it away on long trips (not motorbike trips, though you can now get made for small dog tank bags and doggy goggles).

Thanks for any replies. I've been to dozens of chose you dog websites and am going to the local pound tomorrow but want to get an idea first.

^^^Well I don't know that much about behaviours of many dogs but my two cocker spaniels are left alone for about 7 hours 3 days a week and all they do is sleep... A few times we have left them inside for three days with neighbours letting them out and they are fine.. They both LOVE walks and well our older one does bark, but only when there is a reason, and that is when there is a cat ro someone walks past and well you can't expect them not to because they are hunting dogs. They are medium sized so yer..... That is just an idea of mine..... Well I hope you choose the right dog!!

Do you have English or American Cocker Spaniels, and what colour?

They seem to have great temperaments from what I'm reading, in fact one of the best out there. will have to look into them.
