Depends what you mean by that... in the rare occasion that I use a word that is ordinarily aimed to ostracize the gay community (such as f-- etc.), I use it express contempt towards someone regardless of their sexual orientation (and I have some mates that do the same; sometimes we just call each other f--s or who-es, among other things).  However, regarding the word "poofter", my interpretation of that word is that it's a vulgar slang aimed at people who act uncharacteristically "flamboyant" (or conform to the gay stereotype). Anyone can act like a "poof" if you think about it (hell, there's even a few videos of me acting stereotypically gay ). I guess some people just find it easier to hide behind a facade instead of being judged for who they really are. I don't know. I know there are people who are legitimately bubbly and flamboyant, but there are times when I detect a hint of artificiality in their persona. Maybe it's just me...  Not from me though. I don't like the word, the context in which its all too often used, or what it represents. In short, I don't use that word and I certainly would not condone it either. Anywho, can we change the topic?... Spirituality? |
