8 years ago when I was 43. It was a brick! The first 'mobile' phone I ever saw was around 16 years ago and it was owned by a business man and it was carried around in a briefcase!

If you mean mobile, when I was 28 and got one with a new job.

If you mean Landline -  when I was 16 - I grew up a rural part of Ireland and our attitude was why would you need a phone at home, when there was a phone box only a mile away!  Think about that !

I know people here who still think like that .. .

I was in my early 30's  . . and who would have guessed that we would shrink that phone on the wall to the size of a matchbow, rip it from the wall and carry it in our pockets, then be prepared to pay STD call rates for every call!! . .  ( eh. . I have seen man walk on the moon so not much shocks me any more)

I will be out of the country for the first 12 days of BB . how clever am I ! Smart enough to leave the 'dead-heads' behind

Just how many important calls do you need to make aged between 11 and 15? Was the receptionist not passing on information about all your meetings?

Our receptionist was a b****... she asked several questions before we could call someone, and only if it was EXTREMELY urgent.

I bought one in 1989, it was portable, not mobile.

It came in a carry bag about have the size of  laptop case. I did a lot of country driving so was useful. I even used it to call an ambulance at a car crash in a remote area. It could have saved someone's life that day. I'll never know as i didn't follow up on the victim. He was alive when the ambulance drove off.

The battery in the phone lasted about 30 minutes talk time, but it also had a car 12V socket for the ciggy lighter to power or recharge it.
