I liked the third one the best. It was the first Big Brother I ever saw and wasn't aware of the show before that. I thought the idea of it was ridiculous but I got hooked pretty well.
Big Brother 3 didn't rely on punishment rooms, reward rooms, forcing housemates to read the rules over and over, the contestants were a good mix of average people from various age groups though none over 40. The youngest was 19 and the oldest 35ish. There weren't a lot of gimmicks to get people to watch the daily show and there weren't lame commercials making it sound like a soap. There was a little over portraying of things on eviction night and that was about it. It was the first year up late was done and it was it's own gig and not really incorporated into the rest of the project. There was no real hype project to have incorporate it into at the time anyway.
Big Brother 3 was much more just being voyeuristic and curious about the behavior of a house full of strangers. It wasn't about putting people together so that they were more likely to fight, cry, or have sex. People argued and people cried but it wasn't really part of the plan other than to expect it when a large group of strangers are put together. The dynamic nature of the environment of Big Brother adds a lot to what ends up being watchable and in the 3rd series it was very simple. It was dynamic because someone left every week. There were a few personal challenges that were mostly harmless and designed just to be odd within the social dynamic but not cruel or devious or whatever.
Now that I've said that, I suppose Big Brother 1 and 2 might have been good too but I didn't see them.
I realise that it's crap TV and that it's more and more crap TV every year. I agree with that. The commercials piss me off as well. In fact, most of the things that people who complain about Big Brother dislike (barring people who want to be hatefull to Big Brother viewers just for the sake of it) I also dislike. Despite watching the show and getting addicted to it, I even hate the way it's put together and the trash TV that it has become. What makes me differant than a person who really dislikes it I think may be a thin line initially but then by nature becomes a large gap as the season progresses.
Well... from the handful of commercials we've pretty much already been given the notion that we can probably expect another season of "naughty Big Brother". Last year I think I referred to this in ways that were meant to imply "a**hole Big Brother", and it's disappointing to know that there aren't plans to regress back to a more tame and sane show. I suspect that series 4 is when things got more careless in the pursuit of money... Ryan drunk playing with a knife and Merlin and Paul coming fairly near to blows without outside intervention spring to mind. It's also when people began to get more and more good looking all the way across the board. Then people got more extreme in their personal deviations... not to judge, but to say that it was done for money and that the risk for harm to contestants, both physically and emotionally, increases. Big Brother 5 saw Rachael in a sad mental state, talking to herself and acting like a young little girl in general. Big Brother 6... well if it's not obvious how that was not a healthy environment to manufacture, and that it isn't right to do it for entertainment and financial gain, then... well I don't know what then. I suppose this year will be even worse somehow, but I'll still probably watch it. I'd be a better person not to. |

I can't believe this show got past series one. I never could, and still can't , understand why someone would sit in there own home watching a bunch of idiots sitting around in a fake home. But that's me.
I completely understand your point of view, I was the same until I got hooked on S3 and every season since. |

My fav was the one with Merlin and Paul (BB04 i believe?), it was quite exciting and filled with some humourous twists and controversies. |

OMG Merlin, he was a strange one. Paul with the dreadlocks, loved him and he should of won. We have seen some odd/goofball/strange/weird/funny/upthemselves/wonderful and awful people on that show, hey!? |

I liked that one the most also, I believe shawty. Reggie Bird, we will never forget her!! The dark haired hairdresser that Reggie took under her wing when she was being picked on, I met her up here on the sunny coast. She was part of the 'Hot something something' radio promo with Chrissie who was an announcer on that local station for a couple of years. Was her name Belinda???? anyway I pulled up in a carpark to go to an electrical shop and there she was, helping set up. I called her name. We greeted each other like old friends, I told her I loved her in the BB house, we discussed Regina winning and that was it basically. I spoke to Regina on the phone when she was holidaying up here (long story... but she said bugger for me) and I met the guy that died last year, he had a mohawk and was a big guy, at Southbank Markets, very nice guy. BB has progressively gotten worse IMHO. I don't think I will watch this year's. Watched very little of last year's and don't even remember who won! |

But if crap like Dances with Clowns/Castaways can last three bloody seasons a year, I'm certain that BB will stick around for years to come.

No way, if they don't realise it's all about the money! |

MD! How's the hol so far??
It's good. There's heaps of us crammed together in two houses but it's been more fun than anything else. So far the time change has only been a little bit of a problem but not much. Leia's sleeping in our bedroom so that's a bit of a challenge because she's waking up more and more during the night since she knows we're right there at her service. Last night we tried just leaving her to cry herself to sleep and get used to it but somehow still ended up waking up 5 times, so that wasn't good. We still haven't been to London. I don't care all that much because there's only a couple of things I missed last time, and my feet were hurting after leaving my shoes on for the entire flight and then walking around all day every day. I think they should be better tommorow since I'm not really doing anything today. Leia's cousin is 2 moths older and they're really happy to be here together. It doesn't get really warm here. I haven't been paying attention to the temperature but when we arrived it was 1 degree, and it doesn't really get much colder or warmer during the day and nights. It hasn't frozen yet and there's been no snow. It looks really cool in the town we're in because when you walk around the shops everything is really narrow and it has a real industrial revolution feel to it, like we've traveled back in time. A good majority of the shops are local business and not corporate, from the look of it. It hasn't snowed yet. I was told we're expecting it on the 30th but it sounds like shady information since we heard that on the 19th. It would be a pretty uniquely predictable weather system to know that far in advance. I wonder if young kids keep going back to the same spot and make urinecicles grow throughout the winter, it sounds like something my brother would have done. The sun comes up at like 7 or 8 in the morning and goes down at 4 to 4:30 pm. If you don't have a watch then getting used to the jetlag is kind of weird because you just know that its dark outside, but that isn't very helpful. We have a giant TV where we are... and it has over 500 channels. Australia needs more channels. I saw one of the Woolworths stores Union Jack was taking about. My baby can beat up your baby. Yeah so, so far so good. Christmas Eve is tommorow, then the wedding on the 27th, then the bride and groom are going to be staying here, or close by or something, until the 5th or something like that, so they can be with the family for a while, while we're all here. This gives us the unique opportunity of watching way too many displays of public affection. Europe is still a virgin continent for me and my wife and we already resolved to change that. Last time we were here she had found out she was pregnant just prior and started having morning sickness about 3 or 4 days prior. I'll make a special thread for discussion of our travel sex. I got sick yesterday. I felt bad all day, I couldn't eat or even drink much, then I had an early night and feel better. It's either serious sleep deprivation or that I got sick on the plane and just now started manifesting symptoms. Then I made the bathroom smell really bad, twice, and now I think I feel better. |
