Well, if they did "bet" then they may find themselves in hot water (a la Simon Goodwin).  As I tell my year 8s, at least spell things correctly if you're going to do the "na na na na na" thing

The past tense of "beat" is "beat".  "Bet" is what one does on AFL games/horses etc.

Well, sometimes when you do the "nanna" thing () you don't type into your keyboard correctly

And you're avoiding the topic

What do others think?  I think the rule is fair.

AFL heat policy extreme: Eade

Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade says the AFL has panicked by introducing its extreme heat policy for tomorrow's preseason cup match against Sydney in Canberra.

Each team will be allowed to use eight interchange players rather than six because the temperature is tipped to reach 33 degrees Celsius.

Eade said the temperature should have to reach at least 35 degrees before teams were allowed extra players.

"I would have thought minimum 35 degrees so I think maybe some people have panicked," he said.

Eade said the expected heat would not affect his plans to interchange his players throughout the encounter.

"Even if it wasn't warm we were going to give everyone half to three quarters so whether it's back or forward, but certainly the midfield will rotate pretty heavily," he said.

On prime time is Geelong  v  Richmond.........gee, who gives a toss.......

I am concerned about their lack of "big men".  I don't think things are going to be too good, but I am sure they'll give it their all.

What does everybody think of the penalties handed out by the AFL regarding the betting scandal. I think they got it about right. Goodys was pretty harsh.

I think they all should have had the same penalty.  They all broke the rules.

Somehow the process seems flawed. Kerr gets $10000 for a drunken assault, drug cheats get 3 warnings which are kept private, but Goodwin who admitted he has a problem gets a $40000 fine with half of it suspended. He didnt bet against his home team, it just sounds like they made a very public example of a player who could afford it the most.

I agree, actually Kerr was only fined $2000 by the AFL, it was West Coast that fined him $10,000.
It really looks like Goodwin was the scapegoat here..............but with the AFL you never know what they will do.

It makes you wonder if they shouldn't have a set of rules across the board regarding inapropriate player behaviour. It looks like the AFL bases some of its findings on how they feel on the day and the profile of the player. Imagine if Michael Gardiner acted like Kerr.

Bah, the Power lost.

Round  2 winners were Geelong, brisbane and 2006 wooden spooners, Carlton.

Oh and Sydney too.  Did I miss anyone?

Yeah it should be.  Might be bias from my point of view, but I think the Roos may be a little too good for the blues next week.  Will be close though.

Also think the Lions will be too good for the Cats.  The conditions that the Cats played in yesterday, may just take too much out of them.

Farmer facing lengthy sideline stint

Fremantle forward Jeff Farmer risks a six-match suspension after electing to contest a charge of eye-gouging the Kangaroos' Daniel Pratt during a preseason cup clash at the weekend.

Pratt remonstrated with Farmer in the final quarter of the Kangaroos' win on Sunday. He would have escaped with a four-match ban by pleading guilty...

Was he harshly dealt with?  Did he deserve it?

I don't think he is being harshly dealt with.  He was a repeat offender last year (charged 3 times) and with his bad record carrying over, it doesn't look good.  He is a talented player who seems to have a discipline problems.  His coach would be frustrated with his actions and the possibility of losing a key player for the start of what is meant to be a good season for the Dockers.

Well the appeal didn't work.  Hopefully the Dockers will be able to sort out his discipline problems as if he goes before the tribunal again and is found guilty, the penalty could be a lot more than 6 weeks.  2 other repeat offenders from last year (Cam Mooney and Campbell Brown) would also be worried if they go before the tribunal this year.

Did anybody think Ch 7 telecast of the footy was a bit wooden and boring. I didnt like their camera angles. Foxtel is worse. I miss Ch 9 telecast. They were funny and interesting to listen to and their coverage was superb. Ch 10 is doing a good job now especially now you can hear the footy with their Dolby Digital surround sound.

Woah, Ken certainly didn't hold back here.  Good for him!

Men behaving badly
Tuesday Apr 17 14:00 AEST
Ken Sutcliffe
National Nine News Presenter

After 40 years in broadcasting, three quarters of it reporting and commentating on sport, I am totally over the vulgar, insensitive, boorish, demeaning fatheads who believe the way they conduct themselves is normal and acceptable both on and off the field.

I am over the sycophants and apologists who continually excuse inexcusable behaviour, mostly with the defence "he's been misquoted" or "it's a media beat-up" or "it's not like him to do something like that". Oh please.

What is it about footballers who want to hit women, become involved in fights (nightclub incidents), get so drunk they can't remember anything and then use that as a defence for appalling indiscretions?

What is it about footballers who believe that what is said on the field stays on the field and that includes degrading comments about opposing players' families? And then there's that other shadow of drugs in sport.

Only this week I heard a nameless radio talkback caller saying how he was offended by what the West Coast Eagles Adam Selwood allegedly said about Des Headland's six-year-old daughter.

That same caller then added "when I played we sledged about wives and mothers but that was all". Oh really? If that was ever acceptable no wonder we've got a problem now.

Let me tell you any person who sledged my family has got themselves a major problem.

I wouldn't tolerate it and neither should the people who run the game, nor the parents of the offenders or their team mates. Enough is enough.

This issue cries out for leadership, but don't hold your breath, clubs close ranks, all too often protecting high priced talent for their indefensible actions.

Sometimes there's a fine, sometimes a week or two on the sideline but generally its punishment is handed out with all the impact of a butterfly slap.

Players, whether they like it or not, are role models.

With the big bucks comes that responsibility and those who cannot come to grips with that reality should be encouraged to take up another pursuit, where there are no consequences for their actions.

Unfortunately too many believe that is the case right now, particularly in one team towns.

You reap what you sow. Many athletes and clubs, including the Eagles, have already found that out the hard way.

West Coast have been ordered to attend a meeting with the AFL on the issue of player behaviour. Its probably about time as it detracting from the good football they are playing. Any how I just entered my tips and if I fail again this week I might go for last place so I get my money back. Is anyone else's tips hurting this year?
It should be a good game between Sydney and Adelaide. I am going to the game and I cant wait to soak up a little atmosphere.
