You need new friends.

And smoking is NOT cool period. The only people that made smoking appear even remotely cool is Audrey Hepburn and some of the other starlets of yesteryear.

Frankly I don't understand how anyone can think that smoking's "cool". It makes people smell bad, it's harmful to both the smoker and the people around them. But sadly, the cigarette industry is still making s**tloads of cash so I can't see this disgusting habit dying out anytime soon.

I had a dream last night that I let nicotine hit my brain again.  It was a cigar.  I always see the cigars and think "that would taste really good" but then I remember that I'm literally uncontrolable when it comes to addictive chemicals once they have at any point taken a grip.

Edit, I also dreamed that I was visiting my friend at work and he left some pumps on and flooded a giant area and had to swim down to turn them off, but the water was very turbulent and I thought he might have drowned, but just before jumping in I saw him... then I wanted the cigar.
I previously had a dream that I was working at the same place and fell down an empty elevator shaft about 100+ floors but didn't die, just shattered all of my bones.  It hurt.  I now remember that either last night or yesterday I dreamed that I had to pee really bad and was peeing everywhere and it felt great.  Then I woke up and had to pee.

As someone who smoked for too many years, I can tell you it is far from "kool".  All the negatives you hear about smoking and all the info about it's health effects are true.

Unfortunately it's only after I'd spent probably $60,000 to $70,000 over 15 to 16 years, and couldn't breath properly anymore that I finally managed to quit.
Believe me quitting is not easy.

Your friends are pretty dumb if they start to smoke these days.  Steer Clear of smoking!

Smoking is so 1990s!

I think it's a lot less cool today than it was in the 20th century. It's sad to hear kids still think it's cool, I guess it still is and will remain a rebellious statement for some.

People with high anxiety are drawn to the calming affects of smoking, my wife was one of them.

I have experienced another phenomenon recently that has me puzzled . . in my work I visit supermarkets where mobile phones are sold. They are near the cigarette counter so I am standing there when customers approach and buy their smokes.
Recently I have found myself 'gagging' at the smell of these people to the point of having to walk away from the area . .

It boggles my mind that freshly showered people WANT to smell like that at the start of each day . .

Pssst.... Chris..... the expression is KISSING a smoker is like LICKING and ashtray. You should never 'lick people'... well.....

I can smell a smoker 50 meters away, true. Their clothes and hair smell. It oozes out of their pores. I have found myself gagging and holding my breath to walk past a smoker. Kudos to those who can and do kick the habit and even more accolades to those who NEVER take up this killer of a habit.

there's nothing worse than seeing a good looking girl....then seeing her light up a cigarette -- yuck!!

I remember years ago I used to go out with a few mates and we'd all smoke cigars at the bar - mainly just to piss everyone off...the worst thing was the next morning when I'd wake up with the worst tobaccoey taste in my mouth...blerrgghh!

When I regularly used public transport, I always seemed to get the stinking smokers sitting next to me.  I would simply move, no matter that I might have to stand.  It was revolting.  One man asked me why I was moving and I told him,  "you're a smoker and you stink.  I can't stand it."  The look I got could have killed.

I think that smoking is DISGUSTING!! Luckily none of my friends are into it, but I just do not see how people think its 'cool' you smell bad, your teeth go disgusting, I just think its just feral and so many people die from smoking, which I think is terrible.

It may not be cool, but it is still a legal activity and I find it really disturbing that so many people are so approving of people's rights being trodden on. I find it really disturbing that a legal activity can be so demonized and yet, other activities such as illegal drug use can be almost more acceptable than smoking.

I find it incredibly disturbing that so many people have been manipulated into the whole anti smoking paranoia, without questioning the real motives behind making smoking such an unacceptable activity.

I would be really intestested to know if smoking is such a danger to our health, WHY ISNT IT BANNED TOTALLY???

Could it be that its just a convenient scapegoat, that while people are looking at smoking as the "cause" of so many diseases, that the real causes are being ignored. People have been blinded by the whole anti smoking industry that has been rampaging for the past 20 years. What I would also like to know is, if every smoker today quit smoking, then what would the governments of the world blame next for our health problems, could it be they might blame the pollution in our air, our water, the chemicals and additives in our food, the toxins that we are exposed to every single day.

And before anyone jumps down my throat, read some of the information here.

http://www.forces.org

I do agree that smoking is not a good thing, and I smoked for many years before I quit and the only reason I quit was because of the cost, no other reason. But just think about this, if the governments of the world can decide to trample on people's righst to choose to engage in one legal activity, what else can they decide to ban and demonize, maybe something you enjoy to do.

Of course thats a simple answer, but the fact is that as less and less people smoke, due to the bans then the revenue will be getting less and less. However it would be interesting to know just how much revenue is tied up in the quit smoking products/services that are on the market.

That'll always be the dream, but the demand for cigarettes is way too strong for it to be outlawed completely as there will ALWAYS be a market for them. Banning them will only spawn a black market which would be impossible to police.

I actually think its more insidious than that, I think if the governments of the world, outright banned smoking, then they would have to tell the truth about what is really causing "smoking related" health issues. Smoking is too much of a convenient scapegoat. Its far cheaper to keep one product on the market and tax it to the hilt, and to continue with a highly slanted propaganda campaign to make people aware of the "dangers" while still peddling the product which is renowned for its addictive properties. The alternative is to withdraw hundreds if not thousands of household products, foods, chemicals and additives from the market and that they cannot afford to do.

http://www.oztoxics.org/ntn/cis.html

and more from this site, even though it is Canadian, the same chemicals are used here in Australia.

smoking cool... thats a hard one because it's pretty much a no BUT I'm in that age bracket of 20-30 with my friends and a lot of them smoke when they're drinking.

Personally, I don't and when they're asked if they smoke its a 'no' BUT they are when their drinking??! I'll always throw out a ... 'yes you do!' however, they continue with 'oh but that's ONLY when I drink' .. lol every weekend.

It's tough because today smoking is disgusting .. it's only killing you - causes your teeth and hands to become feral and you stink to buggery PLUS your love life is cut in half because a lot out there don't smoke and don't want to be kissing somebody with that kind of breath. However! when you see somebody smoking and drinking on a night out .. its different it's like its socially cool - it sounds silly but its without a doubt true in every sense. A lot of people that begin smoking when they're young and continue with it for life - social smoking is what should be cracked down on for younger people.

Exactly lurveit! Social smoking, both my kids (23 and 30) do it and I hate it (the fact that they even smoke at all). My son began because when he was out with his wife (who smokes) and his mates (who smoke) he began to smoke. My daughter the other day said she (while with her new young man) had a couple of smokes the other night.... I'm however not sure what kind she meant, come to think of it!
