Hi, I don't think we've created a Biggest Loser 2 discussion topic yet. If there already is one, please feel free to merge this. Eagle eyes of the Australian Idol Grand Finale would have seen both Bob and Jillian walk the red carpet last night. Jillian's participation has been in doubt as she was not part of the lastest American version. Only 2 months to go (8 weeks sounds better ) |

Ooo...I wondered about that too. I hope she is in the new one. I'm not a fan of her replacement. I look forward to the new Aussie Biggest Loser. Cass. |

I posted that bit of information ages ago... that she had been sacked from the American version, but would be appearing in this local edition
Shouldn't this thread been merged with the original? After all, we cannot have separate threads for each series of the survivor or 24 programs |

So glad that Jillian is back. She's the bomb lol. And she obviously wouldn't have come to Australia is she wasn't part of the second season of TBL. |

That's a very good observation, she was at the Idol finale and they've already started filming it. |

That might be true? Jillian mentions in TV Week this week that in the second season she is training a trainer (an Aussie version of herself), but then later goes on to say that she will be hanging around longer next season and promises to be here for the final. |

I did for the last series, current series, primarily because of the beginning racial division ONLY for one of the other moderators to take the exact opposite stand to your self
Read the thread & see her justification for merging
Personally I think every reality series & actually most TV series deserves a new thread for each season

Yes, I have to agree with that one... Because there are different contestants, rules, etc each season. But only for reality TV shows. Other TV shows are fine as they are, as they have a continous storyline. |

OK guys, here's your first look at The Biggest Loser 2
As I reported late last year, Ten will make a big deal of the special Weigh-In, moving it to Sunday nights.
The Biggest Loser 2 - Moving In will air on Sunday Feb 4th - so not too long to go!
This year there will be 4 trainers working simultanously - who will be seen throughout the series - so it's not as if Bob & Jillian and going to buzz off forever. The two new Aussie trainers are Michelle Bridges and Shannon Ponton, and yes, they are very easy on the eye! See pics in the next post.
The weekly schedule will go as follows:
Sunday Weigh-In Monday Elimination Tuesday Minor Challenge Wednesday Temptation Thursday - The Walk Friday Major Challenge
And of course the whole week will be filled with all of the tears, sweat and fly-on-the-wall stuff we so loved about last year.
Anyway, here at the contestants for 2007. I've labelled them with their names and will try and give full descriptions when I get time:

Hi guys, wanted to mention that we will be hosting a weekly Podcast (online radio show) on the new season of Biggest Loser called 'Chew The Fat' (good huh!). We have just completed a season discussing Australian Idol. We figured if we have all these people listening why not continue. More importantly why not try to help people make changes in their own lives by providing information, discussion and entertainment via the medium of Podcasting. We have been lucky enough to have gained the support and inclusion of Sandy Frazer, food coach and bestselling author of the Livin Lite recipe books. In fact as part of this Podcast she will be assisting me with my own weight loss (gulp). What I hope this will do is resolve the biggest issue with this show - how does a person who works full time and has other interests actually lose weight? Also - we are in the process of interviewing some of the guys from the last season including winner Adro! They have been so kind to do this. This is a free fan Podcast, we do not make any money from this at all. We would love to hear from those of you who attempted to get on the show plus would love you to join me (host Ganesha) in following Sandys programme to try and lost weight along with the new contestants. We can look out for each other. Come see us at http://www.chewthefat.libsyn.com or email us at chewthefat.podcast@gmail.com All the best Ganesha and Kram

She sure has... further proof that you cannot put bodies that have been sedentary for many many years through an exhausting repertoire of exercises without repercussions

If it's genetic (which seems to be the reason these days, not the large pizza and diet coke for lunch) running around for a few weeks infront of the 10 camera it going to do SFA because they are just going to put the wait back on, because it's genetic. Get it |

That just shows your ignorance in this matter, Dara. (I don't mean that rudely either... ignorance is the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc. ) It could and can be medical with some people. I know it is with me, although I am not as large as most of those on the TV. |

Yeah, I love people who have never had a fat day in their lives,or ever struggled with a weight problem, judging people who are large. Those who are thin are lauded by society and those who are not are perceived as weak charactered, dumb and lazy. Weight problems, from anorexia to obesity, are complex emotional, physical and psychological issues that cannot be dismissed so simply. The real test of the Biggest Loser is after the massive struggle to drop the weight can the loss be maintained? That is the real challenge for those predisposed to weight gain. |

I am not on anyones side but.. how can you reach 200+ kg by genetics?? Maybe your family raised you on 1 pizza each + soda etc etc every night or something.. but that isnt genetics. i'm not talking overweight I know sometimes you cant help that.. I mean like hugely overweight, and if they lose it on TBL it cant be medical can it..... |

As said previously by someone far more intelligent than I, genetics has only so much to blame...
These people appearing on this program are grossly overweight because of poor dietary habits & couch potato lifestyles, not genetics...
Otherwise what is the use of them losing the weight? If they can at all, as far as I understand with genetic disposition to obesity.

Does anyone know if the elimination episodes that air on Mondays will still be an hour this year? With there being a 1hr weigh-in on Sunday now, I was just wondering if they will bother with an hour elimination show aswell? |

I'm assuming that the weekday shows will all be 30 minutes in length (unless there's a "special" episode of sorts), and the Sunday shows are likely to be an hour long. An hour-long show on Mondays or even Fridays would be an overkill considering the extra episode that Ten have added to the line-up. |

Although genetics does play a roll in some people's weight gain, I think the main reason many people reach such a massive weight is because depression sets in and it becomes a case of "everyone thinks I'm useless and a waste of time because I'm fat...therefore why bother trying to improve myself? I'm not worth it. I'll just hide away so no one has to deal with me instead". They distance themselves from everything because they're taunted by society (and mostly their own low self esteem) and end up massively overweight. With no will to lose it.
As someone mentioned earlier, it's in the same catagory as anorexia...it's in the mind. Fix the mind and you fix the body.
I don't like the look of the new trainers...I suppose I'll get use to them. But I'll miss Jillian...she was great. I hope she actually does play a big role in the show.

I think people like to play the 'genetics' card however genetics plays a minimal role in someones propensity to put on weight, I think it makes up something like 22% and the rest is lack of exercise and food choices. There are however certain medical conditions that can play a huge role in weight gain.

Dara, there are many complex psychological reasons why people a) put on weight and b) can't lose it. Not just depression, as Cassiepeia suggests, that may set in later, but any number of events in a persons life which affects their self-confidence, or self belief. You are lucky if you have not experienced any of these events or had people in your life who have devalued you in any way. |

There is also a condition called matabolic syndrome, where the body does not process insulin (the fat storing hormone) properly, so you just get fatter and fatter. While this is caused IN PART by eating too many sugars (and all carbohydrate foods such as breads, rices and cereals are turned to simple sugars in the body) by the time you realise it is happening you have a big problem.
Beleive me, I've been there so I know. I have lost 30 kgs from a 131 start and have 35 to go. Doing it much slower than the TBL folk but don't depsise them for their size. It belittles you to be so intolerant, not them. AT least they are trying to do something positive. |

very true Dara, but as someone passing me on the street, can you tell whether I am trying or not, can you tell that I've lost or gained weight in the past six months.... ? You can either judge me according to a set of assumptions that may or may not apply to me or you can choose to empathise and hope that I can improve my situation and send me some positive vibes! |

Hi Dara, I don't want you to feel I'm picking on you, and I never said you were "despising anyone". Some of your comments were however, very judgemental. I'm directing my comments to you rather then certain others here, because you at least seem willing to listen and learn and take on board concepts and information which you may not previously had. To Analog6 WELL DONE! Keep up the good work! |

Ok aingel, sorry if I sound like I hate fat people or something. I didn't mean to sound like that. Like I understand everyone has different circumstances and stuff. I do not despise fat people but I guess I am not 100% accepting either, I would never let myself get that fat. I guess i'm saying, some people must have control, not everyone can put it down to genetics and depression etc.
And paula.. I don't. |

Good for you! That is a hell of an accomplishment. My son lost 70 plus kilo over 18 months between the ages of 18 and 20! He is now 22 and has kept it off. He was over 24st/153kg! Losing it slowly is better in the long run because it gives you skin time to shrink with you and it gives your body time to adjust. My son had no excess skin left over when he was done but look at Adro... he needed skin surgically removed to look 'normal' again and that is for two reasons. One: he lost the weight too rapidly' and Two: he didn't work out like Big Wal did and continues to do so. I am overweight because of medical probs as well as lack of decent exercise. I eat very healthily and follow the good food guidelines. I also eat yoghurt once or twice a day with fruit added and Flaxseed oil and grapeseed oils added by me, to it, because they are a huge source of Omega3's for my good health. Not every one who is fat/obese stuffs their face with unhealthy foods all the day long. The clip that makes me sad in the promo for the Biggest Loser 2 is the woman who says 'I know my husband would not of had an affair if I had not gotten so fat' or something along those lines. Excuse me.... you poor woman. Your husband doesn't deserve you at all if he strayed looking for sex/contact elsewhere. Great lot of support she has had. Get slimmer honey and give your cheating husband the boot! |

I agree completely. When I first saw that promo I thought that her sleazy husband would've cheated on her anyway. It would be EXTREMELY sad if she hadn't yet divorced him. |

I live by the rule that we are all responsible for ourselves. Now this woman may have been so insecure and bottled up that she was giving no energy or heart to their marriage or herself, and while his reaction to this was just weak and stupid, it was obviously because as a couple they were not talking it through. He was likely suffering in the lead up to this action and didnt have the tools to deal with it positively. As far as im concerned both of them are victims of their own making. Tough but true. |

Well seeing as he's an old friend of mine... I'm cheering for "the asian dude" as Dara called him ...Alex, although I think Greg (the greek dude) is going to be a contender... Did AJ annoy anyone else with her constant slow talking? gah we don't have to talk as slow as the Americans do... we don't normally anyway! And how dumb was it that they didn't show us which teams Bob & Jillian chose and yet they showed us all the contestants wearing their red t-shirts... as if it wasn't obvious anyway... sometimes the aussie versions of US shows make me laugh because they're so B grade compared to the originals... and sometimes they are great which I'm hoping this will become, however at this rate for me anyway, it's going to be a show I'll watch if I'm around, otherwise it isn't going to bother me if I miss it, as the recaps (and replays straight after the ad breaks ) will catch me up anyway... Oh, and don't get me started on how annoying those Fernwood with Kristy and Subway with Adro ads are going to become!! |

OO AJ has lost the weight she gained last season! How annoying everyone on the official forums likes damian the best. they always pick the fattest every year and make them out as like a god. I swear they did it with david as well. I mean I like damian, but still. I so far like.,... mel, damian, alex, micheal, and kind of pati. And maybe this other guy. I'm rooting for blue I think |

lolll, I agree completely Fajo. *nods* Even during the ad breaks they're shoving TBL down our throats. And I don't know why you would consider the aussie version B grade. I think the Aussie Biggest Loser is on par, if not better than the US version. The US version bores the crap out of me although I admittedly sat through an episode last year.

Well I'm glad that at least SOMEBODY had the good sense not to eat all that junk food. Ugh, it was so unnerving watching them all pig out like that; making their "journey" all the more difficult to contain (literally). I was absolutely appalled that they're pig out like that. They can have all the cheezel glasses and licorice sticks they want when they learn to take control over their disgraceful eating habits. Bah, I'm not too fond of Shannon. He's too... fake IMO. He doesn't carry the warmth of Michelle or the American trainers. And how cool (yet lame, in a cheesy sort of way) are Ten's new idents with the stars of Ten's American shows? |

I'm so glad that the show is finally back, I wasn't dissapointed tonight at all - The Aussie version is sooooo much better (Jillian agrees with me ). The Fernwood adds were a little annoying but we didn't get any Subway adds here, we havn't got the new indents either... what happens in them? Are they on YouTube yet? |

Lets not forget that this is a tv show. Do you really think these guys had a choice NOT to eat that food. Their contracts would be clear on this stuff. I will ask David from last season, we will be talking to him a bit on the Podcast. If you guys have any questions for them about the stuff going on behind the camera send them to our email address and i can ask them. Tootle oo http://www.chewthefat.libsyn.com |

No they can't. They'll never be able to eat like a 'normal' person again. For the rest of their lives they'll be thinking about what they can and can't have and trying to balance everything so they don't have too much of something and not enough of something else. I say have a last 'pig out' and then say good bye to it all. You may be able to have a handful of cheezels occasionally, but you'll never be able to eat the whole packet again. Cass. |

With all due respect that is simply not true. Some people out there do love to say things like "you never stop craving cigarettes after you quit" but who decided that is true for every person. I havent craved one once since i quit. Some people like to hang on that that pain or that belief but frankly, if you dont control your own mind then who does? To those trying to lose weight, please dont think that this comment is true for all people because it isnt. Humans adjust, if you do it right then you wont have to think about what you are eating. |

I have never watched TBL from the first episode so it was all new to me when I did, last night. I felt positively slim (eventhough I could do with losing 30kg) in comparison to the competitors. Bravo to them for being on the show and baring their bodies and souls to us. The largest guy is almost 34 stone. I love Alex (the Asian/Chinese guy) and think he has a wonderful personality. I think it odd that the large guys have better odds of still having a marriage and the large girls don't, just from observation. Either the girls are single because their partners left them or no-one wants to date them and that sad story with one of them being a very young widow I think it is terribly sad that these people have been almost abandoned by society because they don't fit into the mold. I could never of stuffed myself at that feast. It almost made me ill, also. I probably would of gone for some chicken. I don't eat sweeties, desserts or snacks. We must remember as someone else said, this is all contractural and they would have directions to follow, undoubtably. I think Shannon is a young man who has a pretty healthy ego. I wont say 'full of himself' coz I've not seen enough of him to know, yet. The other trainers.... I like their personalities. Some of the promos look funny with some of the contestants getting cranky etc! I wouldn't of been able to do one push up let alone 10! 11 weeks to lose so much weight is way too rapid and there will be a lot of left over skin that will need to be dealt with. I thought AJ was still a little on the large side, especially her hips and bum, but who am I to critisize? I want to see them ALL reach their healthy goal weight. |

AJ was way bigger by the end of last season though lol. I know it kind of is a unfair comp, guys will win, like Fiona would never have been able to win lol. But yeah, they may as well have had a little bit to eat you can't starve yourself, but some of them were being gross. And you would want to eat lots as a strategy as well I think.. possibly. I don't really like the new trainers I wish bob and jillian would stay shannen is too stereotypically aussie and michelle is.... I dont know.. jillian is better! |

They had to cut so much excess skin off him and stitch him up and it was surgery because liposuction sucks the fat out and his fat was already gone... it was his left over skin. Adro would of been better off losing the weight over a year or more and I bet he would of had NO excess skin to be surgically removed. My son was at least as big as Adro and losing the weight (70+Kg) over 18 months meant he had no left over skin to contend with. That is the risk you take with being on a show like this. Imagine all the left over skin when Damien (206kg) loses weight. He is already 50kg heavier than the next heaviest competitor (that's the weight of my adult daughter!). He has a massive task ahead of him. The pic below is of three of last years finalists. Pic from: http://www.the-biggest-loser.com.au/mambo/content/view/122/2/

I was so excited tonight because they finally showed some more of jillian.. but it was almost a "blink and you miss it" moment. And she barely said anything! Is there a reason, (other than wanting to make the new female trainer popular) that they are leaving her in the background? I mean, she might as well not even be there. |

Ham is very lean. Leg ham cut at home off the bone is the leanest, just don't eat the fat/rind. I lurvvvvvvvvve leg ham. Turkey is lean too as long as you don't eat the skin! I forgot to watch tonight's TBL coz I got a phone call then I was out of routine Did I miss anything life threatening? Goes to show, Dara... I have never watched TBL before properly and miss-named the pic above! BTW Dara, I liked you avatar before GBjr better! |

I just noticed that too actually... odd. That Sarah is annoying me already, just send her on her way home if you ask me... surely she knew she was going to be in for some hard yakka to lose the weight?... Now she's taken someone else's spot who would've wanted it more. |

Well at least smurf's spoilers make up for Sarah's selfishness. I mean COME ON she's crying over her boyfriend! Ugh. Jeez. How about the rest of us who don't have girlfriends to go home to? Oh boo hoo. And yes I thought Kat looked great. And Adro looks a hell of a lot better in that new Subway commercial than he did in the finale when he was throwing his flabby fists around lolll. |

The 'lump' on her back is the works for the microphone the trainers have clipped to their shirts.
And smurf, how do you know this stuff? |

Oh my goodness.... his hair gives him away. Then 90% of the sunny coast's male population is gay! I wouldn't venture to guess if Courtney's gay or not actually. I have a hair cut that a few years back would have me labelled a lesbian but it a style/fashion choice nothing to do with sexual preference |

Hehe. Totally agree. Short hair suits some women regardless of sexual preference (Sindi from Neighbours and Samaire Armstrong spring to mind). Although now that I think about it, I think my Uni course co-ordinator is a lesbian lol. And her fashion sense is HORRID to say the least although I wouldn't necessarily associate bad fashion sense with lesbianism lol. But I suppose openly gay people feel more comfortable talking in campy accents and wearing more "colourful" clothing than straight people would. Personally, I couldn't care less what I wear or how my hair looks (as long as it's in a "fro" state lol), however there are some clothes that I absolutely refuse to wear. (My mum once bought me a tank top ) I'm underweight for God's sake. |

10 years old! 50kg, no way! A 10 yr old won't be that tall unless they are really advanced. And this is only year 5 remember, and kids run around and stuff more. Maybe a boy might weigh that, I don't know. I wouldn't think so. that is an overweight girl though definatly! |

Yes, Courtney, IMO, was a little off with the 50kg observation. My Mum (80)and daughter (30) are 50kgs each. The weight loss in one week is staggering! A person should only aim for around 500gs per day for it to be healthy. No wonder they are left looking like a 'rolly' dog puppy (Sharpei). Their skin's elasticity is not able to keep up with that kind of weight loss! I think they all should be very proud of themselves though. Why did the chick in the red team leave in the first week? |

That girl left because she misses her boyfriend. Yeah, I know. Her BOYFRIEND. I think she wants to keep an eye on him. It annoyed me how so many of them seemed disappointed in their weight loss despite some very impressive results. (Did anybody even lose LESS than 4kg? ) |

Hi guys, quick reminder that our show is up and running, we have just done the most incredible interview with someone who applied and was rejected for both seasons. Despite this she has lost over 90kgs. It was the most inspiring story i cant begin to describe it. If you subscribe for free in i-tunes you can keep track of who we interview and also follow my own weight loss challenge with the help of Sandy Frazer (its working, im losing the weight!). http://www.chewthefat.libsyn.com Jo from last season interview will be available later today. It was a real surprise. Subscribe, download or listen from the website. Hope to hear from you. Seeya _________________ The latest and greatest Biggest Loser fan Podcast for season 2. |

Yeah they all lost so much!!
Man they evicted alex! :O Man at least the others had the decency to fake it when he left, courtney just looked bored! But munalitta was faking and marty was not a genuine friend, he could have voted for muna litta, who lost less than him, "no other choice, " as if!
and I dont dislike courtney because he is playing the game. Iwould play the game. He's just a jerk. the only red team member I like is pati. |

I hate Michael and Courtney. The latter is selfish and has no sympathy.
When I was watching, I was telling myself "What the hell are you doing you idiots?" Jillian's response was appropriate. How COULD they vote Alex off? Redicolous! He was my favourite!
I hope it stays juicy and controvertial like it is, but that decision was just plain stupid. |

It is official, straight from the horses a**, oh I mean mouth Courtney mentioned his 'partner' and referred to his partner as a he/him. Not because his hairdo says so either! I was so happy to see Alex after 2 months and so much weight loss, good for him. He is now an XL, what an achievement! Pat yourself on the back Alex... you show those guys you can do it. I almost forgot to watch the show and only switched it on at 10 to 8pm I'm glad I got to see around 20 minutes though. |

Did it really run 10mins over time, I never noticed? Tonights episode I found a little boring, a volleyball match - how excitment! (although still more interesting than H&A IMHO) |

I actually picked them both out of the 4 women to be the ones chosen to go back in hehe... I think the way they show them telling us what they were thinking when it was happening (which is obviously taped later) gives it away as you can see whether they seem happy or sad! I really like Laura so far, she seems very sweet and keen to lose weight for all the right reasons - for herself first, and then her dad. Very mature decision and reasoning for a 20 year old, impressive! Who cares if P'eta is a lesbian or if Courtney is gay too for that matter...even if he is an annoying, immature, selfish little so-and-so imo (I could go on but won't... ), apart from her perhaps putting a few people off on the wrong foot at the get-go for her comments regarding how she's there to win the big bucks... she seems extremely determined to win, and at least may try hard to lose the weight for that reason, if not any other. It will be interesting to see whether that determination holds her through her first couple of training sessions though! Now to see who goes on what team, my guess is P'eta on Red and Laura on Blue.... |

Well, this is a TV discussion forum... not a medical discussion forum. You should ask your doctor or try a better 'equipped' forum. Having said that. Have the new people been allocated teams yet? |

Hi party4funme and welcome. You'd do better to ask your doctor to further explain your condition, rather than post on a TV website that discusses a show about overweight people being ridiculed and losing weight unsafely. All the best! |

According to my dietition at the Diabetes Centre at a major hospital: a) if your calorie intake (in both fat and sugars) is less than you're expenditure, you will lose weight b) I think when the body isn't producing insulin properly, your blood sugar levels rise and the body starts burning off muscle mass and tries to get rid of the excess sugar via urine causing unhealthy weightloss |

How many of you in here are as excited about the show as last year. We think the contestants are quite boring personalities other than Damien.
Hope you guys have given our Podcast a listen as it is a fan podcast on Biggest Loser and we are proud of it, feedback and input is very welcome.

Well the podcast just happens to have a few interviews with a couple of guys from last season, it is more about us discussing this years group and what it takes to get motivated at home. We have a great chat with Sandy Frazer this week who is author of Living Lite books and we get a little bitchy about this years group. We plan on talking to people out there doing it alone as well. If you email us with who was your favourite from last year maybe we could see about talking to them. chewthefat.podcast@gmail.com Its all about the fans, seeya |

Bob and Jillian are comming back though right? Jillian said she would be here untill the end, I think this was just to test the new trainers for a week or two. I hope anyway, the Aussie trainers aren't as good - but they're growing on me. |

Ummm Wikipedia has told me that Courtney is from SA, I don't remember him being from SA can anyone clarify?
And I do believe that Bob and Jillian actually have left, but probably will return for the finale. Shannon and Michelle are ok I guess, but yeah, they are almost nobody's plucked out. (Although so were Bob and Jillian when they started...) Ah well, we'll see how it goes. |

Settle children.... no need to argue. Dara just doesn't think Michelle is hot and you, 10_rules think she is. It's a matter of taste. I myself think she is ok but not like Jillian. Women can appreciate other women and the female form/look without being a lesbian. Goodness me my little one's, just wait another 10 years and you will know what I mean. |

I forgot to watch, I was distracted by the wrestling on Fox8, with the commando
First question... is he the same commando from the silly gladiators program? The one that is married to Bessie whatever? Jeff something...
Second question... what happened after he put a small amount of weight on that guys back as he was doing push-ups? As much detail as possible please |

He sat on Marty, who has a knee injury. Marty then fell, and lifted himself up cursing... "****, you don't ****ing know about my ****ing knee injury!" Pitting his stomach against the Commando's (literally lol). Marty then pushed him and Greg (the greek bloke) came in to break them up before things could've gotten serious... Pati also won the temptation challenge and secured immunity, and according to Ten's Sunday night promo, Damien seems to have lost 7.3 kilos. |

Yeah, what's with showing us that... and "blue secret weapon??" I reckon thats just to try and keep some anticipation in it, - The red team seem to be working out harder and trimming down quicker by the way the look on screen! Also Why do they only show Gerard & Micheal From the blue team or Marty from reds? I'm so bored with what Gerard thinks....!!! I don't even know the girls names, 'cos they never really "feature" |

was the commando taking him seriously or laughing at him? Which would further antagonize him I suspect

Oh God I hope you are right about Mel, she is my favourite too. I am a bit biased though. I met her last September when she was going through the process and was down to the final 100. I told her she would get in for sure, she is soooo lovely she has a really gentle persona and energy. I was thrilled when she was in the promos.....now the thought of her getting the shaft due to this latest "twist" seems such a bloody shame. GO MEL!! |
