It doesnt sound too good and its confusing Eblah is way better! suzi how do you know they had a secret room?
Because one of the Mods was a friend on the forum with my son, who they didn't know was related to me. They said some pretty awful and degrading stuff about the females on the forum including me and especially anyone who appeared to be over 24. I was very vulnerable at the time and instead of giving me an outlet it actually made me quite sick with depression. I got out of it last year when eBlah MarkII started up, and I am much happier with the new forum which is wonderful IMHO.
Wouldn't hurt to have a few facts here. I actually became a moderator at TVAus after the events Suzi is talking about went down, but was most certainly there at the time.
Omission can sometimes lead to a false impression. There was no mention in the above of the fact her son claimed publicly for months to be a 40 year old photojournalist of Korean-French origins with a 9 year old daughter, complete with published books, and had us all fooled. He was quite a controversial (probably *the* most controversial) poster in his own right at the time.
Some people developed doubts, especially as the books couldn't be found on the international ISBN catalogue and no journalists knew anything about him. Ultimately IP addresses confirmed the true story, but when the facts about his identity grew clearer at a public level, there was a really strong negative (and very public) reaction (understandable as people don't like being lied to like that, even if it is online) following which the person in question and a couple of people related to him didn't return. (Actually, one did a month later and caused a near-war).
I was also a member of two "secret forums" (one of which isn't very secret, it's mentioned in the forum rules and is automatic for donors or those over 1200 posts - it was 500 post entry back then) and aware of the goings on in the mod one, and at no stage did I hear the details of this person being mentioned until after the above took place and everyone was like "WTF just happened?!" One other confusing thing in the above post is that nearly all the mods were women in the 30-45 age range, although the board owners were indeed uni students. That has become more balanced as time has progressed (about half are now males between 18 and 30).
For the record I'm an ex-eBlah poster, I used it for about 2 months in early 2004 before migrating to TVAus. I've made a lot of friends over there and I've even had an opportunity to meet with some of them. While any place has a mix of good and bad people, I've had the fortune of getting to know some of the former.
But this thread only exists because of a 'spammer'.
TVaus is not a nice looking place (in my opinion) and your 'retaliation' here backs up the observations of others that there is a bad feel to the place.
SuziH is welcome here and your sour opinion is not . . so C U later.
DEMOCRACY = Voters deciding by Poll on who will be the local member that "Big Business" will push around.
