"Basically people are saying that this online identity that I've carved out for myself may be more expressive and reflective of who I am as a person than the person I show to people face-to-face," Fuller said in an interview.

"That's not necessarily a bad thing - people often have an unlived life they don't often express ... perhaps what's happening is an unleashing of that hidden self."

That's true. I mean, I somewhat feel more comfortable in a virtual environment as people are less likely to judge me over superficial factors such as my appearance or whatever.

All in all though, I'm really not that different online as I am off, although a lot of people are.

Never mind, it's the SMH site.  I am appalled at the misuse of the word "then", so much so that I couldn't read any further.

Online interaction has given rise to a generation of Australians who are more comfortable with their online personas then their true self.

Even though I work in IT I'm puzzled by the amount of time my staff spend on facebook, myspace, messsenger. I'll use messenger to communicate to other offices quickly but as for just starting talking with unknowns

I go to several Internet news sites my fav being the Courier Mail website. People can comment on stories there. Some, most, people do not know how to use grammar or spell correctly. OMG it drives me nuts. Like you Paula, if something is written badly and/or spelled incorrectly I stop reading after a sentence or so.

Did you make a typo in that? "me"

At market day some guys were handing out posters for their product and we "edited" it. They had sooooo many mistakes it was ridiculous, for year 10's!!

'Rogue elf' sending kids filthy letters
From correspondents in Ottawa
December 15, 2007 10:10am

THE national post office and police in Canada are searching for a "rogue elf" who has been sending filthy letters to children on behalf of Santa Claus.

A handful of reply letters to children who wrote to jolly Saint Nick contained comments such as: "This letter is too long, you dumb s***."

Canada Post spokeswoman Cindy Daoust said: "We firmly believe there is just one rogue elf out there responsible for the letters. In our history, we've never had a problem of this nature."

She explained that the letters were part of a Santa letter-writing program in which postal workers across Canada reply to letters from children around the world posted to Santa Claus, the North Pole, Canada, postal code H0H0H0.

Every reply letter is identical, except for a hand-written personalised postscript added by one of 11,000 volunteers.

Last year, Canada Post replied to 1.06 million letters on behalf of Santa, and 15 million letters have been posted since the program began in 1981.

Canada Post president Moya Greene said: "We are shocked and heart-broken that this much-loved quarter-of-a-century old program has experienced an incident of this kind."

"We deeply apologise to any families affected by this," she added.

Canada Post briefly shut down the program in Ottawa after parents complained. A dozen inappropriate letters had been dropped in mailboxes throughout the Canadian capital, but there could be more, officials warned.

Previously, Canada Post had received only one complaint about the program. In 1999, a seven-year-old in Oshawa, Ontario received a Santa message from Canada Post that called him "one greedy little boy!"

Child porn case 'disgusts' police
Posted 1 hour 45 minutes ago

Police say they are disturbed that a former police officer, a trainee teacher and a swimming instructor are among six people who have been arrested in raids on an alleged child pornography network.

The charges, for reproducing and distributing child pornography - and predatory behaviour targeting young victims, are the result of an 11-month police investigation.

Detective Superintendent Helen Begg from New South Wales Police says officers have uncovered thousands of illicit images of children.

"Some of the material has been very disturbing to my officers and I applaud the role that they've played," she said.

She says while the former police officer had been out of the force for some time, both the teacher and swimming instructor had been working with children up until their arrests.

Regional New South Wales was the focus of the police operation - a 51-year-old man from Orange in the state's central west and a 38-year-old man from South West Rocks on the state's north coast have both been refused bail after appearing in court today.

One man was arrested in Victoria and another in Queensland.
