What operating system do you use?

I use XP as my main OS, but also use Vista Beta 2 from time-to-time. I generally hate Macs and Apple in general (and, yes, I used to use a Mac and found it horrid) and don't really want to rely on Linux during my study time.

Vista will be my next OS. I hope to get it soon after it's released in Australia so I can offload my XP computer to my parents

I run gentoo Linux.  I b**** a lot about Widows but the truth is that probably many of the companies that release their own drivers and other things such as realplayer, flash, acrobat (all with open source alternatives though) aren't doing it for that small corner of the market (now anyway) but because supporting Free software hurts their competiton a little which comes down to Microsoft in the end one would think.  Sun Microsystems' logo appears on the newest OpenOffice splash screen and NVIDIA's been making drivers for a while.  Supprisingly, My Brother network pritner/scanner/copyer/fax etc has company released drivers for Linux.

It would be difficult to run it as a student.  Wouldn't be enough time to have a dual boot system either.

I'm thinking that with the amount of time that's been put into Vista, that it might not have the huge update except for including regular updates with later versions of the OS.  Kind of like my Linux distribution the idea is to hopefully not have to ever reinstall because there's a new version but instead be forever upgrading things individually.... hide security updates inside of "functionality updates".  We'll see... maybe it will be another dissapointment for them.

Ugh, I have an extreme dislike of Macs. I used some at school when I was younger (say, year 7) and I simply did not ike it. There were so few apps that I could run compared to Windows, and it's animation stuff... it's just too much.

XP Media Centre Edition.
Very happy with it, and not at all interested in changing until I'm forced too!

You have no reason to. The major component in Vista is media centre, and yes it is a little flashier but it's still the same program. Download IE7 and WMP11 and you're practically running Vista

And here a rundown on how BS Apple's Mac V PC ads are http://blah.winsmarts.com/2007-2-Hi,_I%27m_a_PC,_and_you%27re_just_a_liar.aspx "VERY NICE"

Too true. I'd rather have an older Windows OS, but unfortunately a lot of programs require up-to-date OSs.
