OK Italy, you can go ahead and call me a sore loser but I think that controversial referee must be part of your stupid match-fixing mob in that game between Italy and Australia !!

That ref, penalized Lucas Neill unfairly. I hope you get your butts kicked against Ukraine. WE WERE ROBBED !!

conspiracy: game fixing ? mm, not sure
blantantly RIPPED OFF  ... hell yeah.
my oath we were !

we outplayed them most of the whole game - then this happens!
that was'nt a penalty, close - but it was'nt  ..it was a fine peace of academy award winning acting, as i would'nt expect anything differant to come from that game SOCCER ...or the ol' Italian tradition of ( ohh my back ) compo !

definetly going for any of their opponants now...

there are many reasons why this wont win alot of permanant fans down here - we were mainly brought up with football that is full contact, not this nancy boy stuff ...these so called injury 'carry on's' really make me sick though.

excitement for what it was - as a unique national participation ...for sure !
excitement consistanly from the majority of our population week in week out, outside of world cup... lol , i dont think so !

as much as i liked us getting in it, and seeing how well we could push the envolope ... as a entertaintment spectacle, action, etc etc - rather our own codes myself easily, especially AFL - so much more spectacular.
plus it's soley ours, and i would'nt want it going O.S.

I agree, it was a sad and sick way to be knocked out. The replays, yes, we might see a couple of replays clearly show it was no penalty. And what about the incident a few minutes earlier up the other end, it was plainly handball in our penalty area.

well done, boys, you did us proud, given a bit of fairness you would be in the next round.

What you do now is avoid anything italian for a while like pasta and anything that gets shipped to your country from italy just to knock them hard.

As John Aloisi's brother (Adelaide United player) says "it's just the luck of the game".   He (or someone) also said something about focusing on the POSITIVES.  That's good advice.  Instead of looking to blame someone and jumping up and down like 4 year olds, perhaps that's what we need to do.  Australia had chances and failed to capitalise, as did Italy who, admittedly unfairly, got one past us.

PS.  I trust that appeases those of you who PMed me and 'abused' me for being anti Australian

It's official, we wuz robbed
I have done a quick scan tonight to see what the international media made of Italy's win over Australia.

Obviously the sympathies of almost all were with Australia, whether or not they thought we deserved to win.

I thought Rohit Brijnath, writing for The Hindu, put it extremely well with this: "There is something grotesque about men striving for 95 minutes only to have their ambitions betrayed by a referee's error."

Grahame L Jones said in the LA Times that it was a "blatantly incorrectly awarded penalty kick".

An AP story in the Seattle Intelligencer said: "The Socceroos were tough on Italy. The referee was tougher on Australia."

World Soccer magazine said the penalty was "cruel on Australia who had done enough over the course of the 90 minutes to earn an additional half an hour".

The Times put it this way: "That is the harshest way to go out. Australia had done everything they could against the ten men of Italy and then were cheated at the death."

I'd go on, but I'm just getting more and more depressed.

Quohog is where Stewie and his family live in the US in the series 'Family Guy'.

Can people please stop being so childish about the results of the Australia-Italy game on Tuesday. I am removing the immature post of oth_4_eva. It was an Umpire's decision and if the boot was on the other foot, don't you think that Australia would be happy to accept the result and go on to the next round? Be happy that Australia made it further than ever before and look forward to what it has done for Football in Australia.
BTW if anyone receives abusive Private Messages please convey these on to Admin or Moderators and we will give the user responsible a harsh warning and possible banishment from this friendly forum. Thank you all.

Italy 3 Ukraine 0.  They meet Germany in the semis; the Germans having beaten Argentina 4-2 on penalties, after drawing 1-1 in 120 minutes of football.
