I do not think that would do much good for World Peace my portuguese friend.   Japan should be shown by the rest of the World that we are not going to put up with their lies that they are hunting whales for 'scientific research' and ban them from our waters.   Give the Australian and New Zealand Navy something to do, chasing the whaling ships and shooting across their ships bows as fair warning for them to stop.   If they don't stop... then we can resort to harpooning their boats and sinking them.

I expect Japanese boats take harpoon in hull as war act
no whales in ocean make world sad place then 'global warming' not matter any more ,  future children will have to see pictures as sitting in climate controlled schoolrooms.

If the Navy was protecting our Oceans, our Australian waters then the japanese whaling fleet coming into our waters may be seen as an act of war before we sink them.
So many animal species will be extinct one day and only pictures and film footage will be left for our children's children to see.

Most whales killed in Antarctic 'were pregnant'
July 24, 2007 - 9:15AM

More than half the whales killed by Japanese whalers in the Antarctic last summer were pregnant females, the Humane Society International (HSI) said today.

The group said that of the 505 Antarctic minke whales killed, 262 of them were pregnant females, while one of the three giant fin whales killed was also pregnant.

The findings came from a review of Japanese reports from their most recent 2006-07 whale hunt in Antarctic waters and were released ahead of the resumption of a Federal Court case the HSI is taking against Japanese whaling company Kyodo Senpaku Kaisha Ltd.

Japanese whalers take hundreds of whales each year in Antarctic waters for so-called scientific study purposes.

"These are gruesome statistics that the Japanese government dresses up as science", HSI spokeswoman Nicola Beynon said in a statement.

She said the HSI was hoping the court would set a date for a full hearing of the case at today's directions hearing.

"The full hearing will be to determine whether Japanese whalers are in breach of Australian law when they hunt whales in the Australian Whale Sanctuary in Antarctica and whether the court will issue an injunction for the hunt to be stopped," Ms Beynon said.

"HSI will ask for the final hearing to be held as soon as possible before the hunt starts up again this summer.

"It has been three years since HSI launched the case and many hurdles have been overcome to get to this point.

"It horrifies Australians to know that pregnant humpback whales breeding in the warm waters off Australia this winter will be targeted by the Japanese hunters in Antarctic waters this Christmas."

The younger generations of japanese people and the majority of Japanese people in general, are against whale hunting. The government is obviously to blame here and the powers that be, who let the whaling continue. Wonder how much money is slung their way by the whaling companies? Scientific research my fat a**e! If they haven't got their damn scientific research data by now then they are incompetent scientists!

Migaloo in the firing line
November 11, 2007 11:00pm

JAPANESE whalers have refused to say if they will target white humpback whales such as Migaloo, which annually travels along the east coast of Australia, in their research slaughter this summer.

As the Japanese whaling fleet prepares to leave port and head for the Antarctic, the Japan Fisheries Agency has given a firm "no comment" to questions about white whales.

Japan, which uses a loophole in International Whaling Commission (IWC) laws to hunt almost 1,000 whales each year in the southern hemisphere, allegedly for scientific research, will target humpbacks for the first time this summer.

The ships have been given a quota of 50 humpbacks along with 50 fin whales and hundreds of the smaller minke whales this year.

Migaloo, whose Aboriginal name means White Fella, is believed to be the only completely white humpback whale in the world and is often spotted among the humpbacks which form the basis of Australia's whale-watching industry.

AAP inquiries of Japan Fisheries Agency about the fate of Migaloo and other white whales were met with "no comment".

Japan Fisheries Agency spokesman Hideki Moronuki says the fleet will step up security this season after heated clashes with anti-whaling protesters in the Antarctic last summer.

He called on Australia and New Zealand to take measures to curb the actions of protest ships he described as environmental "terrorists".

"Those two countries maintain the same position as Japan does against the violent action of terrorists," Mr Moronuki told ABC Radio.

"So, everybody can imagine that Sea Shepherd may take very dangerous illegal action again. "I need a kind of support from those two countries in order to secure the safety of our crews and (our ships).

"We can take legal actions even though Sea Shepherd would take very dangerous illegal actions so we have to take other legal actions in order to keep from dangerous action by Sea Shepherd. "It's very difficult, but we should do something."

Sea Shepherd ship's captain Paul Watson, whose vessel was involved in a collision with a whaler last summer, said he did not believe any stepped-up security arrangements would have any impact.

"What we have to understand here is Japanese whaling is illegal, he told ABC Radio. "They're targeting endangered species in a whale sanctuary in violation of a global moratorium on whaling.

"We have the law on our side. "If Japan reacts violently to us, causes any injury at all to any of our people, that will backlash very severely on Japan because Japan is the criminal nation here."

if the world doesn't stop whaling soon then star trek 4 will be right and the whales will be extinct! man was put on this earth to watch over it and the animal kingdom not to wipe it out. some asian countries should be blasted for killing animals for parts thinking it will give good health. like the poor tigers and their precious part. or elephants just for their tusk. man has no right to wipe out animals or to use them for what they are using them for.

Maybe the Japs should breed whales in captivity like we do with Tuna. Obviously they wont be happy until they have blown every whale clean out the ocean so maybe the only way to solve this is whale faming. They could have big cages of the coast and breed their own and let the worlds oceans be safe from whale hunting.
