According to Fifty Year of Television in Australia, the 'ticker' for news headline was first started in Seven's Sunrise. Today show, although have much longer history, followed.
Still better to hear and see the news headlines rather than reading the headlines. And just the right amount. |

Hear Hear Jessie... totally agree! I'd prefer Nat and Mark Beretta as hosts and love it when they do. I try not to watch anything that early anymore... I'd rather be on 'here' reading my news and the posts on the forum. Or sleeping |

Seven's Sunrise and Nine's Today will be back tomorrow (Boxing Day).
This thread is titled Today or Sunrise and is about Today or Sunrise, however, just for the sack of completeness, I am going to mention something that's completely unrelated. Ten's Morning News will NOT be back.
It will be good to see Sunrise and Today again.

All I said is that in the morning, TEN has more news than Surnrise or Today. The quality is about the same, which is average IMO.
For someone who professes to watching these news services you certainly seem ignorant of them, especially Ten. Ten is in no way the same quality, it is far superior. If you go just on news alone it's streaks ahead. Today used to be a much better and had a fairly decent in-depth news service, more so than Sunrise, but is now actually worse than Sunrise with more fluff pieces and shorter news bulletins. Ten on the other hand has far more in-depth news, has angles on the news the other services don't have and it often shows footage and airs news pieces that are not shown by any of the other services. The point is mute though as news doesn't work for brekky TV, as Today have only recently discovered and Ten is discovering. Today abandoned their early morning news only bulletin with Sharyn because it was a ratings disaster. Ten are struggling with a fraction of the audience Today gets, which is half or worse than what Sunrise gets. Sunrise has hit the right formula/mix, and dislike Kochie and/or Mel or not their fan base is large. Today has started to copy the Sunrise formula and the fact is over the second half of the last season picked up ratings because of their cloning Sunrise and drastically cutting their news content. Sunrise has been increasing audience share by double digit figures year on year for five years now so must be doing something right. I mostly watch Sunrise, channel flick every now and again but like the fact I often goto work with a smile on my face after watching Sunrise. Just seems to make facing the working day that much easier and I'm happier at work (not going to say that's just because of Sunrise but it helps). I really like Mel (and from the bags of fan mail she gets so do many others) and though he sometimes make me cringe Kochie seems to be a genuine down to earth bloke who just says it like it is and what's on his mind. That's unique in these times presenters are so plastic and must watch every word and inflection otherwise they are jumped on. Things I dislike most about Today are Alan Jones (why they persist with his piece when monitoring shows there is a massive turn off when he comes on). Richard Wilkins, why oh why is he given so much profile and why has he been around for so long when much of Today's low esteem with audiences can be traced to Wilco. The amount of time Today gives to the government, especially John Howard. He often gets interviews that go over one or two ad breaks and says nothing in all that time. |

Good to see you Boomslanger! We've missed you, well I have at any rate Good to see you have lost none of your strong points of view and succinct way of posting them. We need to liven up the boards again, we have slipped into a bit of a comfort zone since you went on hiatus and ALLEYCAT went to the US to fetch his lovely fiance back to Australia. |

I'm with Boomslanger. I used to watch the National Nine News bulletin at 6am in the morning before Today, it had Mark Fergussen I believe. My dad watched it as well, it was a full, insightful bulletin that covered the whole day's news in 30 minutes. When that was axed, my Dad went to sunrise, but now he has also discovered the TEN bulletin, an belive me, he only watches SBS and ABC. He hates commercial TV news because of the corporate bias, so I was surprized he actually watches it.
I think that TEN is the least bias news service out of all the commercial stations, but the ABC and SBS come out on top. SBS is somewhat bias against the Liberals and especially Bush, but still is very low compated to the commercial counterparts. Nine is by far the most bias. Their business and government connections to the PBL stations (Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne) just sickes me, and since learning about these connections, I refuse to watch their national bulletins and Today.
Ten News, in terms of quality, still has a long way to go. I still think their bulletins are superior to any of their commercial counterparts, such as correspondants in more countries other than the US (such as the Middle East and the UK where many news stories originate from). They also need proper sets, and their look has to become more professional in terms of graphics and studio sets. The current one in Adelaide is horrible, they are floating in water.
Anyway, those are my 2 cents. |

The "serious" morning news is not available these days. Pity.

I tuned to Today as an alternative only to find Karl S does the same.
I found he's a bit too serious, not "light" or entertaining for the morning news. (recorded) |

Kochie is the most annoying host ever! he says the most inappropriate things too often. I tuned to Today as an alternative only to find Karl S does the same. What is it with these guys? Some of their 'banter' is more like pub talk for the blokes. Karl needs to remember that at 7am-8am there are children listening. Poor Georgie Gardner (news reader) often looks at him in horror and the audience can see tension rising.
I totally agree there! Best thing about Karl other than his lovely smile... he can ice skate Best thing about Kochie.... he knows a hell of a lot about finance Best thing about Mel.... she's a mother (sorry but she drives me crazy with her lack of intelligence) Sexual inuendo and crass adult humour is not for a morning show especially one that airs most of it's content before kids go to school. |

The thing with news, like they advertise what will be on it way in advance.. that is not really news then. I know it is but not current. So usually I just use the internet for news |
