I cannot remember him being on since before he tried his hand at his late-night show, where he ridiculed Letterman and Leno in the buildup, before lasting about three episodes

They referenced that in a Simpsons episode...

Hello, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such TV specials as Alien Nose Job, and Five Fabulous Weeks of "The Chevy Chase Show".

Chevy Chase Show
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chevy Chase Show was a short-lived weeknight talk show, broadcast by FOX from September 7, 1993 to October 1, 1993. It was hosted by Chevy Chase. The show was cancelled by FOX after five weeks. FOX executives said a big reason that the show was cancelled was Chevy's personality. It was well agreed that he was comedic in nature and could win over audiences, but he was not adept at taking a more serious tone, such as if the guest was noted for being outside of entertainment, such as a Nobel Prize winner.

[edit] Trivia
A short clip of the show was seen on a fourth season episode of Family Guy.
At the end of every episode as the credits were rolling, Chevy was seen practicing shooting a basketball at an onstage backstop.
The show was produced by Cornelius Productions, which has a logo of a carticure of Chevy Chase in a motley outfit dressed like a court jester juggling balls. Cornelius is Chevy Chase's real first name.
On The Simpsons clip show episode "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular," one of the FOX shows Troy McClure also hosted was "Five Fabulous Weeks of The Chevy Chase Show".
Chevy himself made light of his cancellation at the 1994 Super Bowl, by redoing his Frito Lay commercial from last Super Bowl, where he sees an old lady in danger holding a bag of Doritos, where he runs out to save the bag of chips. In this commercial, the producers run on screen yelling at him to cut and say this commercial has been cancelled. Chevy takes it in stride; telling himself "Bad year, but good chips" since he has a bag of Doritos. However, the old lady swings from a rope and steals the bag away from him again.
Chevy also lampooned his cancellation on The Larry Sanders Show when he met fictional talk show host Larry Sanders in a psychiatrist's waiting room. Chevy wondered aloud why he wanted that fish aquarium to be featured so prominently on his set.

I liked watching David interviewing the Iceman... he was in complete awe.  It's very rare nowadays that you see David actually excited when speaking with a guest.  I think he had a really good show, with the build up coming from Amy.

...
After watching an episode of Man Versus Wild, you guys wait for this individual!

He is certainly different... maybe it's the programs I watch, I'm not sure, but there seems to be a lot of former SAS or special forces guys on television now.

The man accused of conspiring to kidnap David Letterman's son has escaped from prison and may be armed. Kelly A. Frank broke out of Montana State Prison in the Deer Lodge Valley with 22-year-old fellow inmate William Willcutt over the weekend, according to officials. The pair are believed to have escaped in a truck. Prison warden Mike Mahoney says, "We have intelligence that leads us to believe these guys may be armed." In 2005, Frank was accused of conspiring to kidnap the U.S. chat show host's then-infant son Harry from the Letterman ranch in Montana. After the kidnapping charge was dropped, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction.

Liked that as well and Amy.S was a complete nutter as usual. I like the way she hangs about for the second guest, they should do that more often.

And I don't think he gets more excited then when he has the guys from that cable chopper show on.

The man accused of plotting to abduct chat show host David Letterman's son has been captured after escaping from a prison camp at the beginning of June. Kelly Frank was arrested by police yesterday morning after they spotted the convict hitching a lift by the side of a Montana highway. In 2005, Frank was accused of conspiring to kidnap the chat show host's then-infant son Harry from the Letterman ranch in Montana. After the kidnapping charge was dropped, Frank was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction.

Bruce Willis always brings top-quality segments... you can tell David loves having him on the show.  Actually he usually brings a head related product, at least for the last six times.  I liked the WebCam headgear a few appearances back.

There was an extremely funny bit, completely off the cuff... when David showed the photograph of Bruce & his eldest daughter.  Bruce said she was 23 & it was a couple of seconds before David was able to compute the information and did a double take

& 12 months later, we get them here...

I purchased one of the UFOs after seeing them on the show a couple of years back & yesterday I noticed the animatronic pony for sale here ... do you remember when it was on the program?  David ridiculed the thing mercilessly, even running one of the large remote-controlled vehicles into it & from memory, shooting it with some toy pistol
