Rove needs to get rid of the crap. It's not funny. The Backstreet boys thing, the video links, making fun of people in the newspaper. It's just not funny. He only interviewed three groups of people on Tuesday. He used to do at least 6. We (or at least I) want to see interviews, and with Aussies, not americans.

No to the new look, and no to the whole show. Rove's running out of chances and so are Channel Ten.

...now if 9 would just send Bert to the retirement home he belongs in... and maybe 7 could jump on board and send that horrible Darryl Somers along with him!  Or at least please please please don't let him sing again!!!

As for Rove, he trying too hard to make a comedy show, with all those not funny sketches...  He is quite witty, but that comes across best when he's not trying so hard to be funny.  He needs more interviews as that's what draws people to watching that type of show - to see their favourite stars chatting about their lives.

Less (not)"funny" crap, more interviews Rove.

I watched a bit of the 2006 premiere, and just what was "new" exactly, apart from the boring new set? Nothing. Still the same boring Rove Live crap. I stopped watching 10 minutes into the show. *yawn*

Last night's show just proved to me that Rove's lost his touch. His idea of entertainment seems to involve being rude to as many people as he can. Prank-calling? Please, that was lame. Watching him confuse the hell out of some poor live-lister while rambling on about buckets isn't entertaining.

He stumbled a bit too when he was interviewing Harrison Ford. It was obvious that Ford was thinking "Who is this idiot?" from the moment he stepped out. I thought it was funny when Ford kept interrupting Rove while he was trying to ask his silly true-or-false questions.

Time for Rove to step-aside and let some new talent come forward.

I don't like the way he's doing an Oprah and cutting people off when their trying to answer his stupid questions. And what's with Pete putting his 20 cents in, in the middle of an interview? I think Rove needs to get back to basics.

Actually, last night was better than last week, and I found the telephone game to be very funny.

You also have to remeber that Harrison Ford is a very difficult person to interview.

I agree,h ford is a tough interviewee, even letterman has a tough time with him. he's a prickly customer so give rove a break.

i think rove is coming to grips with losing corinne, the new set/format et al,but hopefully will hit his stride soon.

Rove is new? looked much like the old I thought.  Peter Hellyer is very funny and there should be more of him. Maybe they could call it the Pete Hellyer live show.

Last year when they got people to turn their lights on and off and stuff or get out in the street, that was funny. The phone thing was pretty good too, but I bet he knew where the "hang up" note was. Wouldn't be too funny if that came up first or second or even third - tenth now would it?

Harrison Ford is a bit boring these days, but I actually heard him being interviewed on radio by Kyle & Jackie O in the morning, and he actually said a few funny things, so maybe there is life in there somewhere, it just needs to be drawn out.

Mary-Kate & Ashley - now they need a complete personality transplant. Guests like that could kill a show.

Rove was really good last night, suprisingly.  It was excellent actually which is something that like never happens with Rove Live. He was funny, instead of being his usual self, he was a little different, and I think it payed off.

I really haven't watched an entire show since Corinne Grant left.  Something seems to be missing from the mix now and I think it's her.  Rove does seem a little more hyper with an air of desperation sometimes.  Still a good show though and would hate to see it end.

So I wasn't the only one that noticed that. He seemed a lot more relaxed yesterday. Like he was just in a really good mood. There was no smugness in him yesterday either. Even during his phone segment, he was kind to the guy on the phone, and didn't slam the phone down at the end of the conversation like he usually does.

Perhaps producers read forums like this and see how the shows can be improved? Actually, that's more like wishful thinking. lol.

He could have been in a good mood for all sorts of reasons. The immediate thing I thought of is a little dirty so I won't share that, or maybe he's just trying to show the public that he isn't arrogant, maybe he's insecure about losing the gold logie this year, or MAYBE i'm overthinking this

I think the emphasis away from big name satellite interviews to more raw comedy is paying off. Rove's strength is his ability to be himself and make a wacka out of himself, and that shone through on Tuesday night. Even his interview with both Rebecca Gibney and Michael were natural and engaging.

The production values are - as always - very good, but especially recently. The zooming over to the band of the week and the small things like transitions and the way the program goes to credits, it's all put together really well.

Anyway, good to see Rove Live on a roll..

ROVE IS SO NOT FUNNY. He is crap now, he fills the time slots with stupid comedy and repeats jokes untill you think wtf! example- the drummer skit, funny first time round, boring second time. And wtf with that stupid Dr Phil impression by peter, if he wants more air time then he should get a show of his own. I would also like to lash out at his sh*tty intro that he does, he is not funny, he needs to get a professional to write his material i mean last week he craped on about the Davinci Code for like 5 minutes....boring . I will give him a break on guest as he really dosn't have much control ones from the U.S. but there are plenty of aussie(as you guys have been saying) that I would to see interviewed. Also things that need attention: What the?.... Omg a seashell that looks like Australia, com---mon!!!,  pranking people... funny once never again, impressions of john howard - a least make it watchable.

There are so many hosts in america that make their shows intresting like letterman and elle, im not saying be like america but rove really needs to get a professional in to:
- write his material
- moderate stupid skits objectivly
- organise his show so if flows better
- find interesting guests and have interesting discussions
or get a new host(no not peter).

TEN YOU SITTING ON THE CRAPPER ABOUT TO FALL IN

Sounds like your problem is more with Peter than Rove.

I've always found Peter to be the funnier of the two. His jokes are predictable, but it's all about the delivery with him.

I think those little things in the middle like pete interupting during an interview are good, once. Rove wastes to much time with crappy little gags rather then interesting stuff. And yes i don't like pete. When i was talking about letterman i ment that his show was 80% interviews 20% crap. Rove however, is more like 50% interviews and 50% crap. There is to much crap and his guest suck!!!

Well, humour is very subjective, but personally I like the direction Rove is going, especially in the absence of much other Australian comedy.
I thought those bits with Bob Geldoff were pretty good. Never seen Bob do anything like that before.

I thought Rove's interview with Jennifer Aniston was boring. I loved the Chris Isaak moments! Very funny guy. I also liked the classic art segment where famous paintings had a line or two. My favourite was Munch's 'Scream' -- "Sh*t! Where are my ears!?"

Last night was hillarious!

I loved Adam Sandler and Katie on the show. They were so funny. How great was Katie's facial expression when she actually thought she was going to really talk to Jamie from the studio to the house!

And Rove immitating him was great "like like i like totally miss you katie"
It was "like" so funny to watch.

I forgot the singer's name at the end but he had a great voice...except I assume he's just going to be the next Jesse Mcartney.

How excited was that assistant! Lol, he was like shaking but it was so funny to watch Rove harrass the hell out of him.

Rove just keeps getting better!

Well, last night's show was an absolute disaster. The only thing funny was watching how many times rove managed to stuff something up, and then the lame things he did to try and compensate. They should've kept that cricket sample playing throughout the entire show.

I usually avoid most of Rove during the big brother season unless there's someone in particular I want to catch. Saw a bit of the interview with Keanu and Sandra which was amusing, and I like both actors so I enjoyed it. I missed the lame 'hang up...'bit thank god!

Last night wasn't that good, but I loved Hang Up/Don't Hang Up. It was going to be hard to top last weeks anyway.

Wasn't that good?!  It was dreadful!  That was the second time I've watched Rove Live and I am still trying to work out what it was that possessed me to be so blindly moronic!    There won't be a third time.

You seriously ommit a 1 hour show to avoid watching 8 minutes of a bb contestant?
That is the only reason I'd consider watching Rove for.

Yes, I agree it was crap last night. What was with rove doing that wolfmother crap. I wish he just go back to making the show about interviewing people rather then trying to make it funny. Did anybody else hear when kerry anne was doing the news she said something about a parrot and audience missed their cue to laugh?

I think the audience just didn't get it. Kerri-Anne is my favourite segment of the show. I like how she delivers everything in a perfectly "news" tone. The audience might be too thick to understand a simple joke, but I laugh each time. The segment is well done.

I liked a month or so ago when she said something about the creator of the blue screen and then said "And so the rest of this report will be done in France." and the news background behind her changed to the eiffel tower. Predictable but it made me laugh the hardest all night.

Yeah, I think those news bits are pretty good. Whoever is responsible for that should be given the chance to do their own show. It would be better than The Wedge.

hehehe. Yea I laughed when I saw Kerry Anne! But I knew what you were talking about!

Those news bits are one the best bits, and I loved the Australian Toddler's Support Agency ads with the kids. They were the best. Should be more of that.

There are some funny segments but then Rove will do something sickening like eating or drinking something gross and spit it out or something. That aint funny. Peter Hellyer is the real funny guy. He should take over.

If you missed Nick Lachey's live performance on It Takes Two (grand final, Channel Seven) last Sunday (6th August, 2006). You can see him again on Rove Live tonight (8 Aug) on Channel Ten.

I was looking forward to the chat as well.

it was fun...by the end of the show we all lost our voices. they get us to scream soooooo much. we sat in the front seats XD. everything is smaller than it seems on television, i was really surprised at how tiny the seats, tables, and stage were. we were really close to the stage, so close we could probably touch them. there were only ~200 audience members, seems so much more on television. i don't laugh much when i watch Rove on television, but for some reason i was laughing at everything he said during the show..hmm, maybe it was the red bull they gave us before the show . unfortunately, i couldn't get any pictures or autographs, we weren't allowed. we were thoroughly scanned so we couldn't take any of those stuff in. also by the end of the taping everyone was complaining about their bottoms, they made us sit in these really uncomfortable fold-out chairs. and there were no freebies!! i was expecting freebies .

The plan was for Jamie to go to the Rove Live studios straight after his own live show finished. Unfotunately, he was late for his show and would not be able to get to Rove Live in time.

Rove cancels remaining shows
November 12, 2006 04:29pm

ROVE McManus has cancelled his television variety show for the rest of the year following the death of his wife Belinda Emmett.

The much loved Australian actor lost her battle with cancer, dying at the age of 32 in Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital early yesterday.
In a short statement on his website today, McManus said he had no plans to return to work for the rest of the year.

"At the moment I have no plans for Rove Live for the rest of 2006," he said.

"This is a very difficult period for all of us and some time away is the best thing for me right now.

"In the meantime I want to extend my sincerest thanks for all of your heartfelt messages and condolences.

"That Belinda meant so much to so many people, genuinely means a lot to me."

Emmett died shortly after dawn yesterday with her husband and family by her side.

Emmett grew up on the NSW central coast and got her acting break when she appeared on popular long-running soap Home & Away, playing Rebecca Fisher/Nash, between 1996 and 1999.

Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, at the age of 24, the actor successfully underwent surgery to remove the malignant tumour, followed by six weeks of radiotherapy.

After a period in remission, Emmett was diagnosed with secondary bone cancer in 2001, while playing nurse Jodi Horner on the Seven Network's hospital drama All Saints.

Emmett and McManus were regarded as television's golden couple, meeting at the opening of Fox Studios in Sydney in 1999.

They were engaged in July 2004 and married in January 2005, at Mary Immaculate Church in Waverley, in Sydney's east.

"We're kindred spirits," Emmett told a newspaper at the time.

Emmett's last television appearance was with McManus on ABC television's Spicks and Specks Christmas Special, in December 2005.

She also was a singer, having released two albums and recently recorded a cover version of James Taylor's Shower The People, with Marcia Hines.

Details of Emmett's funeral have not yet been released.

Rove Live will be replaced with "The Best of The Melbourne Comedy Festival" tomorrow night at 9.30pm. Not surprised since there's too little notice to play anything worthwhile.

Hey, I reckon "The Best of the Melbourne Comedy Festival" will be better than any of the other comedy around at the moment.

Actually, I think that could be the end of Rove Live. I've read that its unlikely to be renewed next year.

Next week's retrospective episode of Rove Live will be a 2 hour "best of 2006" special starting at 8.30pm. The Simpsons Hour will accompany the 7.30pm slot. Which means that there's no O.C. next week.

Unless... Ten plays it on Wednesday. We'll find out during the ad at the end of tonight's episode.

Well, The O.C. promo says that it'll still be on next week and the latest TEN TV Guide update also takes note of this. But the 9.30pm-11.30pm timeslot is left completely open. I think Ten are still wondering whether or not it would be a good idea to play a 1 or 2 hour show considering Rove's lackluster ratings.

7.30pm The Simpsons Hour (Rpt)
8.30pm The O.C. (NEW)
9.30pm Just For Laughs - Montreal Comedy Festival 2006 (NEW)
11.30pm Usual Programming

She may pop up from time to time, however I believe she has some acting projects and some writing in the works.

Rove to decide on TV future
Christine Sams
January 28, 2007

ROVE McManus will meet key members of his production team within the fortnight to decide his television future.

The bereaved star, who lost his wife, Belinda Emmett, to cancer in November, will meet executive producer and Rove Live co-creator Craig Campbell to determine if he will return to air.

Channel Ten has indicated a possible return date for Rove Live in March. Campbell told The Sun-Herald McManus was yet to make up his mind.

"We'll get together in mid-February and discuss when we're going to come back on air," Campbell said. "It's his call really. I can't discount [returning in March] but it does feel a little rushed."

Campbell confirmed the Roving Enterprises office in Melbourne had been closed indefinitely after the death of Emmett. "We just went, 'You know what, let's shut down', " Campbell said. "We have a deal with Ten to come back, we've just got to work out when we want it."

A spokeswoman for Channel Ten said the station was prepared to accept any decision made by McManus, who is a multiple Gold Logie winner.

"There's no firm date yet but it's possibly around March," she said. "We have a contract with him that he'll come back this year but it's up to them in regards to when."

McManus is believed to have spent an extended period of time with his family in Perth since the loss of his wife.

Hope he comes back in some form or other. I know somw people can't stand his work, but I still think he had his moments. Maybe they'll rejig the show and get someone else to host. Adam Hills? That would be good, but I'd rather the ABC did it.

Yeah, his sisters gave him the name when he was really young, but they don't know how it started. Like it started as something else and evolved into Rove.

The Ten DVD that came with the newspaper a few weeks ago forces you to endure 7.5 minutes of ads before you're allowed to watch anything else on the disc, and among the promos was a brief promo for Rove Live.

Good move by Ten putting Rove on Sunday Night as of April 01st, that means over the months Big Brother is on the evicted person from the house will be able to go straight on to Rove without speaking to any other Media outlets first (as the evicted Aust Idol one may as well), plus it gives Rove a demographic to work with, instead of going for broad appeal ... may not be my cup of tea, however it is a good move I figure.

Agreed, good points you make.  Good move by 10.  Just heard that it will be on @ 8:30 and in direct competiton with Greys Anatomy, so will be interesting to see how it goes.  I have always liked the show and it will be good to see Rove back on TV.

I have no doubt in my mind that the series return will rate well for Ten, but I can't see it rating consistently well from thereon. Rove just isn't very entertaining.

Its a great move IMO, it appeals to Young males mostly, and what is there for us to watch on a Sunday night...? Nothing. I know I dont like CSI or Grey's so I'll deffinetelt be watching it. It won't help TEN win the night, but it will deffinetely do better than most other things they can put in the slot and on a regular basis.

I think they're hoping its a different demographic to Grey's and CSI.
I hope it doesn't die. Not that I think its that fantastic, but there's so little comedy/variety on.

Me too. I'm glad the show is evolving, it shows that they are willing to put in the hard work and are not complacent. I hope they get Hamish and Andy on as regulars, they have had a massive increase in popularity.

This should be a very interesting battle.

There was a second promo last night which was slightly different from the first. This one shows half of Rove's face as it's covered up by a mic. And he says "It's good to be back."

Ugh. That promo reminded me just how much I despise Rove and his quote unquote "brand" of comedy.

I do enjoy Rove, we need a variety show on TV, an Aussie one, somthing needed to fill the gap left by Hey Hey, we need someone to interview the stars and showcase local bands etc, and I don't mean we should be watching mornings with Kerry Ann.

Heh, just as well I rarely watch TEN.  I agree about Silverchair.   Rove's gonna need a lot more than that to "save Sunday."

There was a second promo last night which was slightly different from the first. This one shows half of Rove's face as it's covered up by a mic. And he says "It's good to be back."

Ugh. That promo reminded me just how much I despise Rove and his quote unquote "brand" of comedy.

Not liking the promos.  I mean, what has Rove got to do with new teeth or new underwear......maybe I'm missing the point.  Totally don't want to offend anyone, but are they gonna warn all the guests not to talk about Belinda Emmet?  How repetetive to have a show with people telling Rove how sorry they are all time, and will be painful for him every time.  Also, when he does his famous 'opening speech', is he gonna say anything about it or just pretend he never left?   I'll be watching just to find out, but I can't complain about silverchair.  Love 'Straight Lines'!

Well, the teeth thing is that Rove has got really great, sparkly teeth.
And the undies thing...well, it's just kind of funny.

They give guests a rundown on what they can and cannot say anyway (in terms of swearing etc) so I guess they could tell them not to bring Belinda up.

I'm guessing that's why alot of people will tune in- to see if he'll mention her at all.

I love 'What The?' and when he gets the people to flick their lights.  I also love when he interviews the Idols and the Big Bro people coz it's totally clear he hates them all but can't say much coz their show is on the same network.

He will have to bring Belinda up in some way, he will probably mention a charity to donate to or something like that to. He can't just pretend it didnt happen.

I don't understand why the show is rated M. They say it'll include "adult themes" and "coarse language". However I have NEVER heard anybody drop an F bomb on the show, nor have I seen/heard any themes that would have been inappropriate for younger viewers.

The only shows I've watched last year were the ones with Nancy Cartwright, Delta Goodrem and Mischa Barton.

And I absolutely LOATHE the latest promos!

They're not that bad.

The "M" rating might be because it's live and they're not sure about what's going to be said. Or in the case of pre-taped sketches eg "Sex Office".

F bomb hasn't been dropped yet to my knowledge.

well it is unpredictable, and not only that one time, they did a male only nude run across a football field, thats sure is adult themes,

Comedians and interviewees sometimes  joke about drug taking or heavy drinking

Perhaps making light of these serious issues is considered to be an "Adult Theme" ??

That's nudity.

And as long as it was blurred (or that you couldn't see the nudie bits), it wouldn't be rated any more than a G or PG.

A number of Mr. Bean episodes included "butt" nudity, but because they were in a non-sexual context, they were all G rated.

The "adult/moderate/mature themes" descriptor basically means that the TV show/movie will contain topics not suitable for more impressionable viewers. Examples of such themes include war, the supernatural, cult, binge drinking, suicide, puberty, paedophilia (or any form of underage sex), rape, racism etc.

The heavy drinking, maybe. Depends on the context and if they glorify binge drinking without discussing the consequences.

But consequences aren't discussed ( and neither should they be in the context of an "Adult" joke  )

Take someone telling a story about how "I was SO trashed from the night before but I went to work at the factory using dangerous equipment but got congratulated for working faster than ever before "

It might well be a funny tale BUT could give "younger minds" ( who are being "protected" by the "Adult Themes" warning ) the impression that going to work or school half drunk or stoned is OK

The warnings are based on the lowest common denominator who MIGHT watch

And in these days of blame someone else for my own bad choice , I guess it covers the TV station if someone says "I let Tiffany-Snowflake watch the show because I thought Rove was a nice wholesome Perth-boy . My poor darling heard someone joking about sex / drugs / drinking and is now traumatized "

It's like signs at the beach saying "Beware .. Drowning is possible in water"
( OK , I'm exagerating , but you get what I mean  -- people don't take responsibility for their own actions anymore !    )

Well, that should definately have received an M rating for nudity.

I've noticed that full frontal nudity (of either sex) can get away with a PG on any medium as long as it's in an educational context, however nudity in a heavily sexualised context (even if no sexual activity takes place) can receive either an MA or an R rating.

Should we start new a topic so we can openly discuss the rating system? lolll

It will probably always be distorted.   I mean, they put those ratings on there for "impressionable young minds".  Then they tell you that children (young and older)under a certain age should be in bed before 8:30 p.m., especially if they will be going to school the next morning.  So, if you do what they tell you, the rating becomes obsolete anyway, because kids are in bed and not watching.  And I'm sure if parents let their kids watch it, they either think they can handle it or if they just don't care they might be exposing them to worse things anyway.  Doesn't make a lot of sense.
I still find it funny that when I was a kid (80's), censorship wasn't really an issue and me and my peers turned out alright.

Dave Hughes is now a regular!!!!!! As if I needed more reasons to watch.

Hughes laughing
By Sydney Confidential

Article from: Font size: + -

DAVE Hughes was outraged when The Glass House was axed from the ABC, but the larrikin comedian is having the last laugh having signed to be a weekly presenter on Rove Live.

Channel 10 yesterday announced the breakfast radio funnyman will be giving up his Sunday nights to spend some quality time with his mate Rove McManus.

"I've always had fun doing guest spots on Rove in the past, so when I was offered a more regular role I thought I'd be a nutter not to take it,'' Hughesy said yesterday.

His involvement is a necessary drawcard for the variety show, which will be competing with ratings gun Grey's Anatomy when it returns to screens on April 1.

I can understand if Hughes isn't your cup of tea, but what's wrong with Silverchair and Ross Noble? No pleasing some people.

I'll be glad to see more of Dave Hughes. Like I've said before, the show might not be fantastic, but its good just to have some light entertainment on TV.

I liked the new show too. Could have been a bit more varied though. There was alot of sitting at the desk and talking. And they had all the guests sitting on the couch, but they didn't do much for the rest of the show. And so many ads. I'd just be settling into it and the ads start up again.

Good to have it back though.

Were there more adds than usual? I didn't notice...

I think it was better having more of a cast. The last couple of years the show felt like it had alot of filler, tonight it didn't feel like that at all.

I did find peteSpace a little drawn out though, maybe if Pete only had a top 4 friends that would be better.

Strangely enough, I actually sat through the whole show last night. The new set is loads better than the last one and Rove, fortunately seemed a little less pretentious in last night's show which is a plus.

I'm also glad they got rid of that stupid warning at the beginning of the episode for "language" and "adult themes". I reckon they should make a new rating warning  along the lines of "Viewing experience may change", and not include anything else unless the show WILL contain innuendos at an M rated level.

Although some bits dragged on a little (particularly the whole "murder' shtick), I might tune in again next week.

Probably not, it just that its not very often I really watch something on the commercial channels, so I really noticed it. I know I'm always crapping on about how there's too many ads, but its really bloody annoying  !
I don't have ADD. I can watch something for more than 8 minutes at a time.
(No offence to anyone suffering from ADD.)

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the picture during Rove, but I think it was in a softer focus or something, like US shows seem to use.

Including What The might have made the show look old and outdated, rather than the fresh format they have now.

Oh, and the topic name should be changed to 'Rove'

I agree.  Having segments from previous seasons would have made it look to much the same as years past.  I thought the most notable admission from previous years was the last words he said at the end of every show.

Enjoyed the show , particularly Hamish & Andy seeking celebrity look-alikes

But was the direction a bit tighter than previously ?
Segments seemed to finish sharply , rather than the more relaxed manner previously

Maybe the audience clapping after a segment has been cut down ......

Anyway , good to see the show back !

Glad the show is back.  I like how he spoke about Belinda at the start then just got on with the show.  Perfect.   Totally pissed that What The? is gone.  Also pissed that there was no silverchair interview, just the song.  Don't want to speculate on DJ's personal life, but he seemed a bit "affected" while performing.  I was always a fan of Carrie, so I'm glad to see her more.  I actually think she almost stole the show from Rove.

Quite a good show tonight, the best bit was Carrie leaving in the car that said "I just read the news".   I know, I'm easily amused.

Anyone else noticed how much weight Rove has lost?

I watched snippets of last night's show and really enjoyed it. Love Danny Bhoy, he cracks me up. He was on 'Spicks and Specks' last week and was thoroughly chastised by the female singer on his team, so funny!
I haven't noticed Rove having lost too much weight myself. The show is more classy and the set is more 'grown up'. Rove is a tad more grown up also, in his humour. If I am not recording anything else at that time I will record Rove Live for sure. I had an unusually 'late' night last night.

10 couldn't be happy with that, then again working out how ten continue with their lineup despite some of the ratings is quite a stumper!

How did the premier rate?

I thought Gretel was great, she was actually quite funny and proved that she is much better when she dosn't follow a script (I love Gretel ). It was a shame the HM's aren't in Lock Down yet, I was looking forward to some goss on the House etc.

Rove really needs a longer timeslot. The only thing that's stopping it from being fully interesting at the moment is that it feels rushed.

I miss watching Rove on Tuesday when he took his time with segments and didn't mind running overtime. It can work on Sunday, he just needs his timeslot boosted from 60 to 90 minutes.

yeah, it does feel a bit short, but since i'm waiting for PCD, i guess i havn't noticed yet.  i did notice they only really had one guest tonight (Chili Peppers).  i don't count bands as guests coz they don't do an interview.

The first time I heard of the conjoined twins was last night watching the show, I really didn't find it very funny at all (actually, I rarely find Hamish and Andy funny). I think the show is better as an hour instead of longer, even last night I felt it was stretched out at some points (even though I realised he didn't go back to the bus stop for some reason, maybe no one was there?).

Couldn't agree more. I also find the big brother/starburst ad with the twins distastefull, but then again distastefull sums up big brother quite nicely!

I agree that its too short. Its good that they've tightened it up a bit though.
It would be good if there was a bit of opportunity fo the people on the couch to talk. They sit there the whole time but don't get to say anything until the end.

It will probably be even shorter this week. PCD is being advertised to start at 10 p.m. and originally I thought great, Rove will be longer.  But then I remember that Big Brother starts at 7 p.m. so Rove probably won't start until at least nine.   Then they have to get it all finished before the news, so don't know...

CAN U GUYS BELIEVE!!!

That rove live is not aired all around Australia??! The guys won a dozen gold logies?!

I just introduced my older brother and his g/f to Rove Live the other week - they'd never seen the show before and remember only hearing about the guy through magazines but didnt know what he was about.

Its so weird - they're from the kimberleys but still!

Anyway, its now their new fav show on tele. lol

I noticed two things last night on Rove. Rove didn't have his wedding ring on and he held it together very well when promoting Belinda's CD.
I loved the Iranian/English Comedian, she was fantastic. How funny was it that Adam Hills took Betty and Norma from his own show to Rove! Loved it!

not particularly a fan of leno (or rove, but he's ok) either, but i plan on dLing this ep just to check it out.

I wonder if any of the FTA networks has the rights to Leno.... Maybe they'll show this ep, because Rove is on it, (kinda like how they showed Letterman Midday/prime-time for Russel Crowe and The Irwins)

It kinda sucks that he isn't on tonight, I would have watched Rove over the Logies, but now Ill be watching them instead of a stupid movie, but thats life I guess. I guess Rove won't be on when the ARIA's are on later this year either. I think this week they could have moved to Mondays at 8.30 for one week, if it goes OK against Greys and CSI, I'm sure it would have gone better against DH's and 1 Vs 100.

He performed really well on the Tonight Show, but he is a professional comedian.  So I guess he should be capable of filling the just over five minutes with A grade material.

Not that I watch H&A but Kate deserved the Gold Logie because SHE has been on that show for 19 years, since she was 9 years of age! She has put in the hard yards and deserved it much more than anyone else she was up against. Bert and John Wood, pfffftttt. Been there, done that!
Rove will get gold one day!

I thought it was pathetic that John Wood and Bert were up. Wood was nominated for his small role in the Joanne Lees Story, whereas Bert was nominated for his pathetic gameshow "Family Feud.

I knew Kate would win and I think she deserves the award. I don't remember much of her role on H&A as I haven't watched in 7 years.

Poor misguided lad.

Rove, through no fault of his own, hasn't been on TV enough to warrant him winning a gold logie.  He was lucky to have received what he did, and he himself expressed surprise at his success.

Although not a fan, Kate deserved her gold for hard work and dedication.

Rove

In June 2007, Xzibit stormed off the Rove Live set in Australia after complaining that the talk shows' producers didn't give him a "stand alone" billing on the show. Xzibit walked off set after his performance time was reduced. He labelled the show "racist", a claim denied by the show.

He was supposed to be on Rove the sunday just gone in a pre arranged rap off with Michael Buble'. Once xzibit got to Rove he demanded to perform solo, but because Rove follows a format and only have 1 singing artist at the end of show, and that night it was Michael Buble', Xzibit felt like it was based on racial terms. Come on Xzibit, Grow up!!!

racial terms?  Surely Michael would be the one that would be the most embarrassed during this performance?  Or at least have the potential for...

I'm really disappointed in his behaviour, because African-American artists are treated with nothing but respect & Reverance in this country.

Frankly anybody who acts against a black person's wishes nowadays is automatically dubbed a racist pig. I say good riddance to him walking out. As much as I loathe Michael Buble, I'd much rather listen to him than any tryhard "urban" clown anyday.

full credit to the young man for saying exactly what everyone was thinking

...

I just heard that it looks like he's getting some development work, maybe even some on the air, in the US of A... he has signed with one of the major talent agencies & let's face it... at his age, he looks to have a serious future ahead of him.  He could be huge!

Rove has called it quits and Rove live will not be returning in 2010 with the last show airing tonight.

So sad to see that after 10 years the show is finally ending.

Some forumers here would disagree with you and say he was never popular to being with.

Nuts to them I say. RIP Rove my Sunday nights have nothing on them now... a void that Ten is probably going to fill with Law and Order or NCIS repeats

He knew it was time (or was told it was), his show went downhill fast when it moved to Sunday, I didn't find a lot of the "co-rove's" funny (e.g. Judith Lucy), and quite frankly at this point in time a lot of "celebrities" are neither overly talented or interesting so why tune into a show to see them?

I'll miss it too.  My first thought though, was "I wonder who'll survive as the next host of that type in Australia?"  I thought Shawn Mcauliffe, if that's spelled right, had a great show... for the 2 episodes before it got axed, and is pretty good in most of the stuff I've seen on TV.  Would like to see him do a talk show to fill that gap.

Judith Lucy... She's had a couple of good moments, but I usually find her kind of annoying.  She's very bitter so its hard to take her jokes well the way she puts them accross, and recently its effected her way approaching things, I assume, and is reflected in the jokes she comes up with in the first place.  I find her more and more crass and less and less witty.

I was sad to read that he was retiring his 'Rove' show. I loved it and caught it most Sunday's.

Rove eyes American TV career
The Daily Telegraph November 17, 2009 08:56am

The Gold Logie winner stunned fans and surprised industry colleagues during Sunday night's season finale by announcing the program would end for good after a decade on air.

While the shock decision sparked a flurry of speculation about his future, a spokesman for the star said "he was not doing radio," despite being linked to Nova's new breakfast line-up next year.

A spokeswoman for McManus declined interview requests yesterday, but said of a possible return to chasing a US gig: "everything is up for grabs."

McManus and his on-air sidekick Peter Helliar reportedly tested alongside Merrick Watts, who will remain with DMG after his comedy partner Tim Ross and actress Kate Ritchie decided to leave their show.

Last week Nova sources said the belt-tightening network were likely to sign McManus or Helliar, with the latter now firming for the role.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, a regular on the Channel 10 program, wished McManus well as he moved on to pursue new projects.

"After 10 good years his show will be missed by many and I am sure that in whatever he chooses to do next, he will continue his fine tradition of doing it well," Mr Rudd said.

While the PM used the program to connect with younger voters, audience figures had softened dramatically this year - with the farewell drawing just 760,000 nationally.

Despite statements denying any acrimony between the show and Ten executives, its dwindling ratings were expected to force the hand of network programmers, who enjoyed a happy relationship with
McManus, but not always his production company, Roving Enterprises.

The popular presenter is understood to have irked some in Ten management with his live farewell speech, in which he complained he had never wanted the program scheduled on a Sunday night.

It was moved from its original Tuesday timeslot to the weekend prime-time in 2007, when McManus returned from bereavement leave after the death of first wife, Belinda Emmett.
