With the ratings that Headlands pulling, it won't be around very soon. The show looks cheap, the acting is so bad it hurts and the storylines have little personality. Easily the worst show on TV at the moment.

Come on 7, save some money and put this crap off our screens.

Why oh why can't australia produce GOOD drama/comedy/etc, TV shows? (With some exceptions of course). A few good ones: Secret life of us, The Panel, Frontline, Gp, The Sullivans, etc. The bad ones: Neighbours (yawn-fest), Home & Away, Blue Heelers, Water Rats, Stingers, All Saints, Good Guys/Bad Guys (truly, truly awful), Last Man Standing, Headlands, and on and on.

I'm so sick to death of the national sport in this country - Aussie bashing.

Yeah we've made some awful shows...but so has every other country that produces television.  Are you trying to tell me that every show that comes out of the US is good?  Or very show that comes out of the UK? I lived in the US for a year and travel there often and we are lucky that we don't get to see even a quarter of the rubbish they churn out.

Sure...for every Frontline there's gonna be a Last Man Standing (or two maybe)...but then for every West Wing there's gonna be a Stacked...Every country produces good and bad shows.

Starsign you listed 6 Australian shows you thought were good - with an "etc." at the end which presumably means you could have added at least one more to the list...so why did you have to say that Australia can't produce good TV?

I would have thought we'd all want to support our local industry as much as possible...guess I'm wrong...much more fun to be negative I suppose.  Never mind the fact that shows like Blue Heelers and All Saints provide a great training ground for Aussie actors...never mind that many people obviously loved the shows (both received countless awards many of which were voted for by the public)...never mind they are exported to many countries bringing overseas interest and investment to the Australian entertainment industry.  I don't watch either of these shows...nor Home and Away nor Neighbours...just not my cup of tea...but I can appreciate that they must have "something" for so many to watch for so long and I can also appreciate that staple shows like these keep the precariously under-funded Australian entertainment industry ticking over.

When was the last time you produced a successful, high quality Australian TV show starsign?

Here's my list of great Aussie TV from the last few years...when you produce a show that can be added to the list let me know..until then stop with the Aussie-bashing

A Country Practice
Brides of Christ
Frontline
Halifax FP
Kath & Kim
MDA
Murder Call
Pizza
Rafferty's Rules
Seachange
Secret Life of Us
The Games
We Can Be Heroes
Wildside

Here's a link to the Australian Television Archive in case I missed some http://www.australiantelevision.net/list.html

I'm going outside to raise my flag and spit on an Aussie-basher

I like OZ tv as well but let's be realistic we're miles away from the US. When it comes to sitcoms we're nothing short of laughable. Hey dad? Kingswood country? On the other hand we excel at the mini-series & produce world class soaps. Prisoner was huge in the US Our one hour dramas, such as water rats, are good but do they really stack up to CSI etc. When it comes to sitcoms & one hour dramas the US is king..

Your opinion fajo.  Personally I'd rather watch Kath & Kim, The Games or Frontline than King of Queens, The Nanny or Two Guys and a Girl....(or most of the other drivel the Americans produce under the title "comedy").

I did like the first couple of series of Seinfeld but other than that I rarely find anything to laugh at watching Amercian so-called comedy.

And yes Devman I know this is off-topic ... I'll stop my ranting now....promise

BSquared I have a right to my opinion as does anyone else. I personally think that a lot of 'aussie - made' TV is woeful. If we have the talent here than why do they make so much garbage (Headland, Paradise Beach, Chances, Hey Dad, My Two Wives, etc)? As someone mentioned the USA makes far better sitcoms than we do and our so-called Police Dramas are terrible compared to the USA's. I also said that ausssie TV can be A-Grade material. I wish we could see more of the good stuff is all I'm saying.

Yep you are...and so are I...and do see your opinion as Aussie bashing and I get sick of Aussie bashing - I like to see people take pride in the good we do instead of always taking a negative stance (that's my interpretation of your words)

but as requested by Devman I have taken my whinge to a different thread (given the title of this one I am indeed guilty of hijacking)

Firstly I am not Aussie Bashing by saying that 'some' aussie-made TV is rubbish. That is my opinion and only mine! Secondly I never said all TV from the US/UK is good! Alot of 'their' (US/UK) stuff is rubbish too. But, and once again this is only my opinion, they (US/UK) do tend to make better TV shows than we do. I would like to see 'more' well-made Aussie TV because I know we are capable of it! Lastly don't you think you are a hypocrite for calling me an 'Aussie Basher' when you are doing the same thing - American/British bashing?

Hey. Settle down. Happy Australia Day.

I didn't specifically sit down to watch Heelers but I reckon I have seen most episodes, and it was mainly like a more modern version of Division 4 or something.

Maybe there was just too much crime for one small country town. Some of the story lines last year were a bit over the top, and maybe that was a sign of their desparate attempts to grab some viewers before they folded.

Unfortunately for them it backfired and they are gooone. Although I won't miss it, I thought it was good Aussie drama, and there should be more of it, but there is just so much competition coming out of the US, particulalry police dramas, that we just can't cut it on our tv budgets. They have spent all that on the AFL, so what hope do Aussie actors have?

Maybe they thought that John Wood was never going to get a Logie, so it was time to shut up shop. Poor John...

That's why they've axed the show...so poor John gets the sympathy vote for the logie this year...you just wait
