I can't stand this guy's creaky voice when his song "Goodbye My Lover" comes on the radio. My God, I can gargle a song better than that. So my question is... should he be put in a blender?

Isn't killing him a little extreme?  I'm not a huge fan either but here's a simple solution...don't listen.

Triple J is a James Blunt free zone

It really amazes me that people think he's good.  I think that people think that people think he's good so they then, as a result, think he's good when in fact he sucks.  Maybe people like some of his lyrics or his stupid video... or maybe people think that people think that people like his lyrics or video or something but he... Okay this is the honest test because my wife used to like him and said that he had a good voice.  This is when the video was on, so I told her to close her eyes and just listen to it.  Then I said "Okay now imagine it's not a man that's singing that, but a woman.... you see... he sounds like a woman who can't sing worth a damn. I can sing better than that!" and she was convinced just that easily.

I do a very good rendition of 'You're Beautiful' where i just sing those words over and over until I drive everyone insane. I personally do not like his voice or particularly like him to look at but obviously some do or he wouldn't be in the business. My little friend Abby who is five years old sings more of 'You're beautiful' than I can and does a better job of it than James does himself!

I don't exactly find his voice spectacular but his lyrics are pretty good. I mean, "You're Beautiful" just gets to me everytime I listen to it. I think it's a really heartfelt song.

Kaisers, Blunt lead nods at Brit Awards
Wednesday Jan 11 06:26 AEDT

Kaiser Chiefs and James Blunt have led the field with five nominations apiece when the shortlist was announced for the Brit Awards, the UK music industry's big night of the year.

Blunt, a singer-songwriter who once served in Kosovo with the British Army, was the bestseller of the year with his debut album Back to Bedlam.

Finally saw an Add with this bloke in it, I am afraid you are not quite correct, probably not original, it is just that as the practice of making eunichs died out several hundred years ago, its beena while since we heard one .....

i think he has a very nice voice with genuine talent...there must be a reason as to why he's still in the top 5 of the album charts, or more specifically at the number 1 spot at present, for a total of 26 weeks now...maybe a large percentage of Aussies are tone deaf, and a couple of other countries aswell...

Yeah James Blunt in his first two songs in "You're Beautiful" and "Goodbye My Lover", sounded like he is broke when he sings, sounds depressing !!

For heavens sake, cheer up James !!

I read/heard somewhere that the latter song was written for his best friend, whose wife died at a very young age.  I suspect that's why it's so sad.

I've changed my mind about the guy.  He is famous which of course makes him weird and he honestly sounds like one of the Beegees making a solo carrer out the vocal range of songs like "Tragedy" and "More Than a Woman" but I suppose he's pulling it off for now.  I'de never really listened to the words to "Goodbye My Lover..." and "oh crap!"... I wanted to cry right there in the car... that jerk!

I don't mind him. His voice is adequate for the songs he sings so I think people see something in him far more deeper then just his ability to hold a long note. Maybe they see in him what millions of fans saw in Bob Dylan and that is substance.

I love all of his songs except 'You're beautiful' and 'Goodbye my lover'.
I am compiling a CD of James Blunt and the songs on it will be:
Here we go again, No Bravery, Wisemen, Alright Tonight, So long Jimmy, High, Cry, Bad Day, Don't Go, Billy, Fall at your Feet, Tears and Rain and Out of my Mind.
So that I know the lyrics I go to: http://www.azlyrics.com/
I find James Blunt's lyrics are deep and complex and the way he sings them is very hard to keep up to at times. I am very fond of the songs above and love listening to them.

I was listening to him this morning and thought about this post.
It's a very bold statement, but I think you're spot on... now hopefully his next album doesn't suck and make me look silly.

I've finally voted in the poll and decided that we should not kill off James Blunt... lol, I had forgotten what the poll topic was.

I have sat down and listened to his songs and tried to like him, but honestly I cannot say I have enjoyed any of his stuff.  you have to enjoy a voice to enjoy the person and he just seems to grate. Then again, I hate the falcetto singing of the Bee gees so who am I to comment.
He is the fad of the moment and i certainly wont regret his passing (of his music).

i sort agree with that ...and can see where your coming from.
i often get his songs shoved in my ear by my missus , we have 2 albums of his, and for some reason , im really sorry i got them. lol

but i must admit , some of em' have grown on me despite my earlier critisism's of his "Helium" vocals.

having said that, i can't help but think.... that it maybe a bit of a fad !

say, like Miss "helium" Gracy May etc etc.

i must admit though, The Bee's Gee's, to me are freakin wonderful.
their Harmony's are like no other, and with those high notes, who else could get away with this    lol
to me, it was such a sad day when Maurice left us .... i still can't believe it happened !
ok, i'm over it !

You were making a joke when you wrote Gracy May weren't you? Heheh.
I too love the Bee Gees but really only like James Blunt's songs that are not falsetto. Mind you because he sings so high I have no trouble singing to his songs, as with the Bee Gees. Maurice, poor Maurice, a tragic & unnecessary death. Love the Bee Gees for being such open, friendly honest people as well as great performers.

Tune your raadio to Triple M, they play it every 20 f#cking minutes!!!

"Look g'day mate it's Gary Sizzle from the music department look sorry about the noise I'm at a party to celebrate Michael Gudinsky's knighthood, look are you dead set on playing a track off this You Am I album? I've had a listen to it, it's, umm... guitar based rock, it's not exacly the Triple M sound, their's nothing on air that sounds like Wise Men by James Blunt. Jeez can't you just talk to Rogers for 40 seconds then throw to one of your little skits, how green was my cactus or whatever that cr@p is? Oooo hang on mate I've gotta go Brian Cannon from Pseudo Echo's about to skin a live pig AGAIN." Get this with Tony Marton, 2MMM FM

Paula...you said he sounded like a male bonie Tyler which is an insult to him which is a good thing but it is also ad isult to bonnie Tyler who is awesome. But i think that James Blunt is the crappiest Singer of all time the one thing i am going to give to him though is he sounds the same live which means his voice isnt tweeked but in some cases i think it should be. BTW Triple J is the best Radio station so I agree that if you dont want to listen to him just listen to Triple J

James Blunt is without doubt the worst singer I've ever heard. First it was Goodbye My Lover, which had no tune && not even good lyrics to compensate. Then, he brought out the video clip. Who in their right mind would strip off on a beach for a clip? That's definetly beyond me. Afterward, he had to make myself && Crowded House//Neil Finn fans around the world hate him even more by covering 'Fall At Your Feet.' When I first heard it on Itunes I was nearly in tears. He murded it. I can almost hear Neil Finn sobbing at the sound of the song.
Why did anyone give him a record contract? Were they drugged up while they were listening to his demo? That's the only possible explination for such an act.
Why should James be the one with the record deal while so many other talented singer/songwriters have to play in clubs, just hoping that they might get recognized? Those singers actually sing, not whine!

I disagree with... well I like him, but I recently was thinking the same thing after listening to the whole album (awesome album  ) about "How the hell did he ever get a recording contract?"  I think he must have already known the right people or something.  I don't think anyone heard him and saw potential to make money there.  At the same time though I just remebered that Guns & Roses 'Sweet Child O Mine' was a regular on the only, at that time, "New Rock and Roll" Los Angeles radio station but it wasn't a hit for years to come and there was no other one song on their first album that I would have thought warranted that they had something that other bands did not.

If your'e playing in clubs though, you're really just playing in clubs for whatever reason and being "discovered" is just a wet dream anyway.

I like all the songs he has released off of the album, but I have never listened to the whole album in full (yes I bought it), I get to bored and try and find a song with a beat and never find one. Yeah, i like slow songs sometimes, but not nearly a whole album of them.

This poll has been up for a year and half so I've had more and more time to put good thought into it.  I've finally decided that the answer is "no" because if you're like me and you watch TV, you know that saying James Blunt should be dead is like murder and that murder is wrong when it is not done as revenge for someone being unlikeable.

Also, where's the new album already?  I want a new album.  Maybe the guy smart enough to have saved his money and will slip back into anonymity, but I hope not.

The world needs musicians like James Blunt and Coldplay. It's an instant measuring stick to knowing if the person you're talking to has a mind of their own and taste in music.

The ones who love us least are the ones we'll die to please
