Woohoo!   Nothing beats the feel of water slowly finding it's way around and through all the places it goes when I move through it, which is everywhere it touches me.  Of course I don't have a pool at the moment and it's been years since I have so it almost doesn't apply.

On many occasions fed brussel sprouts to next door's dog by flinging them over then fence...got away with if for ages until the neigbours installed a pool...apparently the dog wouldn't swim in to get them and the neighbours worked out that the sprouts didn't get in their pool naturally

TPBM:  Had a run-in with a Store Detective

I don't know if this qualifies as a run in, but right after I came to Australia it was a really new concept that my bags were subject to search and that it was pretty much standard practice sometimes.  I was coming out of Big W with a bag from another store that I had tied in a tight knot at the top and couldn't be undone without ripping the bag.  The security gaurd asked me to look in my bag, so I looked down at the knot, decided that I wasn't going to fumble for 5 minutes trying to undo it properly and instead extended my arm out for her to undo the knot.  She said that she isn't allowed to open a bag.  Right away, being annoyed with what I thought was an implication that I was a suspected shoplifter, I thought to myself that I should just say "Too bad then" and walk away, but I've worked in a similar job so I was polite on that point.  Again not understanding that this was common and that I wasn't assumed as a shoplifter, I instead of walking away asked "Why do you want to look in the bag?"  To which the reply was that it was store policy... so I once again extended my hand with a tied bag at the end of it and got "We aren't allowed to open the bags."  This went on again.  It's really funny looking back on it, "It's our policy to search bags"  "We aren't allowed to open the bag"  "It's our policy to search bags"  "We aren't allowed to open the bag"  and I later realised that they do in fact have a sign as you walk in (that you can't see unless you happen to be walking in sideways because of where the sign is) that says bags are subject to search, but how they expect to do it without opening the bag is still a pretty funny thought.

Same store, I was absolutely sure that they were singling me out this time (they weren't) because 2 women with purses just checked out in front of me, my wife walked ahead of me, but when I payed, the cashier asked to look in my backpack.  So I opened it for her let her look in it, took it back and closed it, then parked my a** right there in an interogating manner (that didn't last long)... "Why did you want to look in my bag?"  "Three people just went in front of me that weren't asked, why didn't you ask them?"
The answer was that they aren't allowed to look in women's purses, and let me say that this is the stupidest bag searching policy of all time.  My backpack was at the time being used to carry stuff like... okay the following:  A coat in case it gets cold.  An extra pair of socks in case mine got wet.  A clipboard and legal pad for stuff I was studying.  A crapload of documents relevant to migrating here.  A pen.  My passport. Etc.  So this basically WAS a purse but that isn't what makes not searching purses stupid.  Not searching purses is stupid because... I mean just what the hell is going to be in there that I might not have had in my backpack?  What's going to happen?  Is there going to be birth control pills, condoms, and tampons and if so it that going to make everyone shrivel up and die of embarrasment... fucking lame... and VERY sexist this policy is.

Now it still annoys me just a little bit and I'm not completely used to opening bags on demand and still feel a little like Big Brother is watching when it happens but I know that it's not something to be taken personally.  Both incidents are kind of funny now.

It does make me realise that if I want to steal something from Big W, all I have to do is dress in drag and put it in a purse while I'm in a camera blind spot.  Alternatively, I can tie a bag up real tight and point out that their sign says that bags are subject to search, that I'm offering it for search, but that the sign does not say I need to open the bag and that I've done my part by offering it for search and given them permission to open it (they still wouldn't).  Or since there's only one person at the door I could argue with the security gaurd while someone else runs out with one of the DVD players on display.  Or I could just point out that their sign isn't visible when walking into the store and that I wasn't aware and don't care about their store policy... something tells me that this wouldn't work for someone who actually was shoplifting though.

This brings me to something else, I've not yet seen the sign at Woolworths yet while you're shopping, the music pauses and a recording says, "We would like to remind Woolworth customers that ALL bags are subject to search upon leaving the store."  What I don't understand about this is that I've already been in the store for 20 minutes when I hear this and I think there is no sign which leads me to beleive that perhaps it's just law in NSW that my stuff can be searched by Joe Blow when I'm leaving a store.  In which case I'm offended because I could have tampons in that bag

That isn't much of a run in with a store detective but it applies 5% so good enough

I've ice skated plenty of times and I still suck.  The last time, I learned a new trick.  I can't do any of that fancy skating backwards and then swithcing forwards stuff, but I learned that if I'm skating forward and that I jump up in the air and turn 180 degrees that half the time I don't fall down right away.  I did this while sailing down the ice one time and when I landed, I somehow ended up with all my weight on one foot that slid sideways, and all of my forward momentum was somehow (I still don't understand it entirely) transferred into upward momentum sending higher into the air than I could ever hope to jump.  Basketball players don't get that much hang time.  I was up there forever.  Then I landed sideways with my forearm, elbow, and knee taking the brunt of it.  People who weren't watching turned around to see what the noise is.  If you've never ice skated, ice is just as hard as concrete.  Anyhow, my brother didn't see it either, and although I played it off as if I wasn't in pain, he was laughing at me after seeing me get up and knowing I was okay because he KNEW it hurt like hell since the noise wasn't what made him turn around but the violent vibration that he felt through his skates when I hit the ground... and he was almost halfway across the length of the thing away from me.  So basically, I tried to do something at top speed and it stopped all my forward momentum and sent me up into the air, I landed, and that made the ice vibrate enough to stop everyone and make them think "What the hell was that?  Did something expldde?"  The exact manuver that I pulled off that day is still a mystery to everyone but God becauseif it wasn't, we'de be seeing women in the Olympics catupulting themselves upwards in triple quadrupral spins and then landing it right with the help of their skate partner.
