Personally I think golf is a good way to ruin a good walk!

Oh I dunno, some of those new fancy paints get some interesting patterns in them as they dry!

I actually enjoy men's golf on TV but women's golf is just too bad to watch. The Sunshine Coast hosts some great golf tournaments in December and I love it. I am a personal friend of the O'Malley family who have Peter O'Malley as their Golf Star in the family. I love the Pro-Celebrity Golf in late December up here where we see just how great some celebrities play golf. The likes of Kristy Hinze, Dermott Brereton, Wally Lewis, Geoff Lawson all turn up and play not too shabbily. Having been married to a Golf Course Superintendent for 19 plus years until last year who was also on a very low handicap of 4, I have learned a lot about Golf and have followed it (not too fanatically) for most of my life after my parents took up playing it when I was 5. There are a hell of a lot of sports I can't stand more than Golf.

Not knowing a lot about the sport, having overheard some conversations about golf, I would think you would have to be pretty "well heeled" to play the game. I went on a course at kouralbyn a few weeks ago, (basically a golf resort), and the golfers amongst us were saying the yearly fees of $1200 were quite reasonable.

Reasonable? - $1200 before you even walk on the course! apparently you then have to shell out each time you play as well!

First off to join a club you have to pay a joining fee and your yearly subscription (that's a one off fee) from then on yearly you pay your membership fee which usually falls around Christmas time. My Ex-husband 10 years ago, paid a $700. joining fee plus the yearly membership of $350.-$400. Now those fees (joining and yearly) are almost double that. Plus after golf you just have to have a cold beer and maybe a flutter at the pokies. Plus, remember, you need the entire set of clubs, bag and buggy. One golf club can cost at least $500., a bag at least $200. Everytime you play you pay a green fee and if you are playing in a comp. you pay extra as well (I think). The cost of him indulging in Golf at Competition level was astronomical. It is an indulgence when it is beyond your means and ends up costing far more than it is worth. Golf would have to be the single most expensive sport to play, IMHO next to POLO where you have to buy and 'keep' the horse!
