Australia has won 65 gold medals at the Commonwealth games.
In my book, this proves we're too sports-fixated.

Sure its great to have our sporting successes, but I reckon we're achieving enough in sport without continually raising the bar.

How about getting the film industry on its feet?

australians think they are just it in sports. in cricket they hate losing and sledge players. in horse racing in the melbourne cup they invite international horses to race but have a hissy fit when one of them wins it. to australians sport is about winning and the money they get.

I have to say that I think there is too much emphasis placed on sport, and the sporting icons associated with sport.  I believe there are other,  more worthwhile achievers to role model.

I think everyone should exercise for good health and sport plays an important part of that. But  I think there is too much emphasis on performance and winning and I think there is far to much pressure placed on children to win, rather than just play the game and have fun.

I find it ludicrous to pick up the paper and front page headlines is who won the football, cricket or tennis, when far more important events in the world are relegated to the 2nd or 3rd page.

And I absolutely detest the fact that when I do decide to have a lazy weekend and just sit and watch tv. There is sport on every single channel. I guess the only good thing to be said, is at least it gets me up and doing something active...
