Blah Blah Cafe

There are so many threads it's hard to keep up with everyone without jumping from thread to thread and sometimes you just want to chat about nothing without it being themed which gives it a limited scope.

For those of us who haven’t got the time to search every thread looking for some conversation I thought it would be a good idea if we had somewhere to talk about anything and everything. Idle chatter with some gossip thrown in but without being "themed", like you would do if you did go out to a cafe.

So to start I'd like to say that I'm still looking for work but I'm getting really annoyed because most businesses just don't reply even if it is an advertised job.  If I just sent letters to everyone and anyone then I would imagine they don't feel obliged to acknowledge you but when they advertise a vacancy then it should only be proper to answer every enquiry.

The weather up here has been good the last couple of weeks with good rain and cooler temperature.  That’s it for tonight I’m off to bed now so goodnight and seeya soon.

Here all alone Pinky?  I'll have a black coffee with milk on the side.  I guess old habits die hard.  You could imagine if there were 100 or more regular active members all trying to post at once that you would need separate threads for every conceivable subject.

I'm afraid I can’t help with any hint on how to get a job.  I’ve had the one job for 25 years so my job hunting skills are rusty at best.  The weather has been good here also nice spring days which we haven’t had for many years.

I saw on TV the other night some ad for cheese which used a very young girl dressed up as an adult, this was similar to an ad for NRMA some time ago and I think that all these ads do is get paedophiles excited.  Talk about idiots who are supposed to monitoring these things.

I could not agree more with your last paragraph HotStuff. I see gorgeous little kids on TV getting their nappy changed or whatever, in their birthday suits and think 'I wonder how much the warped of mind paedophiles are liking this?' I go to the beach and see parents allowing their children to go naked, showering in public and playing in the sand and think... I know there is some pervert with a camera just lurking about. In this day and age we adults have to be aware of these low lifes in society and take measures not to encourage them or invite them to harm our children. I know it is an awful way to think but we have to do it for our kids health and wellbeing, even if they are not our own kids.

So what are we supposed to do?  Not take the kids to the beach or the swimming pools? Dress our kids from head to toe if we do go to these places?  Teach our kids to be afraid of everyone and everything?

Sorry folks but I couldn't disagree more vehemently...we're turning into a society ruled by fear - mostly fear of things that are highly unlikely to ever happen.  The facts are that most children who are molested are molested by someone they know...and the vast majority of those are by a family member or family friend.  So taking your kids to the beach is highly unlikely to introduce them to a paedophile.  And not taking your kids to the beach means they will definitely miss out on a part of childhood that they deserve to have.

Yes this is my hobby horse.  I am sick to death of the culture of fear that we are living in - heavily influenced by politicians and the media.  Fear is debilitating - to individuals and to societies.

Cheers, BSquared

I agree with what you say B2 and my concern is not with children being children but with dressing them up to look like young adults in public.  And I must admit that if I saw a photo of that girl in the cheese ad without knowing the circumstances I would naturally think she was a hotchick.  And that frightened me.

Advertisers are not stupid people and they know exactly what they are doing.  If I was the Child Protection Agency I would be looking very close at the people who run this ad company.

Dreamworld is okay but Movieworld, which I went to about five years ago, was overly boring for me and is definitely for the pre-pubescent teen. I'm going to Seaworld for the first time this Christmas holiday.  By all accounts, Seaworld is the best destination.

But don't forget to take some sandwiches and bottled water because prises are criminal at these places.

I personally can't miss Dreamworld and Seaworld when I pop down the Coast (2 hours from my place). You have the rides but also the pleasure of seeing wildlife and Dolphin performances. Movie World is basically all rides and themes and no animals and very little entertainment.

Whaoh there BSquared. I think you over reacted there. I did not once say we should be afraid but we should be aware and not do anything to encourage these bottom feeders. I would never let my kids or grandkids go nude in public because I do not want one of these creeps to get their jollies off at any child's expense. This is also a bit of a hobbyhorse for me too and because these predators are brazen and more prolific these days I think that to a degree our actions, activities etc have to change to meet the danger. This is not fear, it is commonsense.
BTW wasn't this the Cafe where we just chat and make passing comment on things not go into a diatribe about what's right or wrong with today's society?

Nothing like a little passion, but friends do argue and argue on some sensitive issues, it's the nature of the beast.

I picked up some old Women’s Weekly from a used shop the other day from 1954 at $5 each.  I thought it would be good to give to my daughter as a portal into the world when I was born.  I especially like to look at the old ads.  I might scan some and post them at a later date.  The price on the cover is 9d (nine pence) each.

I think debate among friends is a very good thing, arguments are not. I hate argueing and fighting but a mature adult debate is good for the soul, IMHO. My ex-husband learnt early on in our 19 plus year marriage that I would not and will not argue. He was so frustrated with that fact he yelled at me 'Why wont you argue with me?' to which I replied... 'why argue when you know you are right'. That stumped him and we never did argue or fight.

Bras and their hooks, clasps whatever... I used to have 2 most beautiful bras that had clasps at the front and I loved them. They gave a great line with no visible creases in a tight top, plus they were sooooo comfy.

I put the dra on backwards first to do it up then turn it around.

I love those old ads.  Keep them coming cactus.

I used to go to the Library in school and get out the old National Geographics just to look at the ads, especially the ones for the cars.

When I was a kid, National Geographic was porn because I couldn't get my hands on real porn.  It made me feel uncomfortable to look at though.  I thought it was pretty strange that women went topless in any society.

Now that I look back on it, I wonder how much differantly they would have looked had they worn a bra

Hah!  I used to look at the nudies and the cars.

I'm just glad I'm not a woman, with all that extra clothing and "other" stuff you have to go through I'm not surprised the ancients, and even some today, thought women were cursed by the Gods.

I didn't know that about the cursed beliefs.  It got me laughing though because when I was young and scared about leaving home to go make a way for myself I wished that I had been a woman so I could leech off of some poor guy and not have to work.  Some poor guy like myself at the time.

Actually, in some of those societies, the droopier the boobs the better. Thats what they considered to be beutiful, just like the societies that think ppl are beautiful if they have a long neck, or an elongated forehead. The women would purposly go and stretch out their boosum.

I think women of all shapes and sizes look beautiful when pregnant.  I have found that even the most ordinary girl will look very attractive, in the face, when pregnant – it’s just something about their face that tells you that this person is special.

These days I think fertile women are built a bit differently than say 25-30 years ago. I see attractive women out there proud of their bumps which usually only look like they are carrying a basketball out the front. Look at Princess Mary and how elegant she was through her pregnancy and it had little to do with her status in life. She is obviously a good healthy specimen of a young woman. If a woman breast feeds she has more of a chance at getting saggy bosoms later on in life but if you don't have a lot to begin with, all the better for you later. I recently saw a young woman who was dressed very bohemian with the layered skirt, low sandals, loose top which was beautiful with a caftan feel. I approached her after admiring what she had on and told her how great she looked. She was appreciative of the compliment which was given in all honesty.

I can't stand to see pregnant women wearing crop tops or t-shirts with their enormous, stretch marked, navel popping out, belly hanging out. Yes, I get it, you're pregnant, OK, now put it away! I'm not saying that pregnant bellies are unnatractive, just that we as a society are getting very sloppy in the way we present ourselves. I say the same about fat men and women who let the flab hang out over their jeans. We should take more pride in our appearances!

I think it's all a matter of choice and perception.  I can't stand to see people with comb-overs.  I feel so embarrassed for these people that it makes me feel uncomfortable to see them.  It must be a genetic disorder that deludes these people into thinking it doesn’t look ridiculous.

The guy who does the “Godfrey’s” ad is surely one of these delusional people and surely Donald Trump.  All that money and he thinks he needs to pretend he isn’t going bald.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing?  If it's a good thing then that is indeed pretty damn good and come to think of it, if it's bad then it's by the same token pretty discouraging or worrying.

I caught the end of that Abba special last night, and was horrified at Rhonda Burchmore. She looked terrible, sickly skinny! And remember, the camera adds 10 pounds, so she would look worse in real life. And I don't remember her looking like that in that coffee commercial.

I caught the end of that Abba special last night, and was horrified at Rhonda Burchmore. She looked terrible, sickly skinny! And remember, the camera adds 10 pounds, so she would look worse in real life. And I don't remember her looking like that in that coffee commercial.

well she is nearly 60 now!

Exactly Gizmo, you know me too well!
I still don't understand where some of the above posts are coming from (thought wise) can anyone explain. Anyway, I am beginning to feel more like my old self again after turning 50 I kind of fell apart and was at the Dr's almost every damned day. This week.... Dr. free and this morning I was even motivated to do stuff I haven't done for a month. Who'd think that hormones could wreak such havoc.

So I just stay home and do chores, drink coffee and take a short trip to the shops for food.

She wasn't dancing when I saw her on TV, just talking. But lets face it, no dress can stop those legs of hers from being shown, they go on for miles!

Yeah, I do miss Tim, Uncle Martin and Mrs Brown ...I used to fantasise about her when I was bubbling with hormones as a teenie.

Where do you sit when you visit the home of nudists?  I hope they cleaned the chairs before I visit - no telling what little signs of previous occupancy are left behind.

Had a great lunch the other day. The Reef at Noosa has been renovated and is FANTASTIC. Best seafood. So fresh.
Does anyone on here watch the ABC show, 'Surfing the Menu'? Last night (14th Dec) my daughter was on the show airbrushing the guys! Anyone see it? I taped it.

"Airbrusing the guys"? I didn't see it, so I'm curious as to what you mean by 'airbrusing the guys'. Is she in make-up or something? Or is she an artist - I guess they are really  the same thing!

My daughter IS an artist and she AIRBRUSHES people at the largest open air markets in the southern hemisphere... the Eumundi Markets up here on the sunshine coast.
She does free hand or stencils and adds her own artistic touch with colours and designs. The guys off Surfing the Menu got her to airbrush temporary tattoos on them One of them had his in a very private area so when she did it the film crew had to hold up curtains so the public couldn't see. The 'tattoos' last 2-3 weeks. She makes a good living doing that, airbrush tanning people and a few other things. It is her own business. Surfing the Menu...  http://abc.net.au/surfingmenu/noosa.htm
is the episode my daughter featured in.

Just out of interest what is everyones favourite take away?

That would be a difficult one for me. I usually get take away 2-3 times a week and almost everyday during school holidays. I usually get something different every time (eg Red Rooster, Maccas, KFC). My favourite would probably be Hungry Jacks or KFC, but when I feel like something healthy i'll get Subway.

At the moment in construction industry circles this phrase is really getting up my nose - the answer is "key Learnings" this means we screwed it up big time, but all that money down the tube was worth it because for our "Take Aways"  we got some excellent "Key Learnings"

Do you find that depending on which Wok you go to, it tastes different? For instance, I only ever get special fried rice at Wok from Hindley st because it tastes better than the rice at Glenelg. No idea why, but it really does taste different from store to store.

My birthday's in 9 days... can't wait for it

oh how I remember the days when I looked forward to birthdays....instead of now where I run screaming from the sight of them (or simply pretend the day isn't happening)

It's not that I mind my age...it's just that my list of things to do before I die is getting longer and my time is getting shorter.

Enjoy the big day normangerman...17 isn't it?

Cheers, BSquared

Although I am far from old, I made a desicion that I would begin to celebrate Annual Gift and Cake Day instead of having birthdays. It means you still get cake and presents, but you don't age!

I am surprised the Board supports such a long name. . usually there is a 10-12 letter limit.  . .for obvious reasons.
That is not the only member to do that. . I have seen at least another 3.

Just another revert back to babyhood that happens the older you get. Time flies when you're a baby, I mean, who can remember being 1 or 2, or even 3? Then you go bald, end up with no teeth, have to wear diapers again, eat mushy food, loose your balance and fall down a lot, fall asleep in the middle of social gatherings...

This will show you how my brain can go off on tangents!
I've been wondering.... where is Unwritten I have not seen them for at least a week.
I watched Dancing with the Stars favourite bits last night and went to bed with Tom Williams dancing in my head (not sugar plum fairies).
I will be damned glad (overjoyed actually) when The Commonwealth Games are OVER and I can watch my favourite shows once more.
A sleep in for me is 8am. My budgies are chirping and happy. It's been raining very heavily on and off for 24 hours now. Cyclone Wati is bringing high wind gusts and rain.

My big fat fashion fibs
April 8, 2006
Ten beauty myths crumble as the truth about stilettos, suits and style is revealed, writes Jacqueline Lunn.

WHEN I WAS working on a monthly women's fashion magazine years ago, the international supermodel on the cover needed some touching up. Looking over her shoulder towards the camera, she had her wrinkles smoothed and her already stick-like arms thinned. "Backfat" above her shoestring-strap dress was wiped out with a click, her decolletage evened out and her neck stretched.

There was so much digital alteration required that the computer didn't have enough memory to store it and the cover had to be scrapped.

I quickly learnt the fashion world doesn't just trade in harmless fantasy - it is propped up and reinforced by half-truths, lies and more smoke and mirrors than backstage at an Alexander McQueen show.

In this strange land full of pretty frocks, prettier girls and men who shape their eyebrows, use fake tan and swallow diet pills before having the ultimate say on what women wear, deception keeps the promise alive. The promise that somehow fashion can change us.

Today we expose fashion's top 10 lies, in case you want to go cold turkey. Then we are going out, getting a coffee and flicking through another magazine.

"Take risks and be individual with your style - it will set you apart from the pack."

This is a trick. Being given carte blanche to mix spots and stripes, contrasting textures and contrasting styles (ballet tutus worn with tuxedo jackets) is just plain torture. Rules provide comfort and at least give you the hope of being able to follow.

Ever trawled a second-hand shop looking for that perfect vintage piece to make your outfit truly your own? After sorting through stains and smells and shapes that weren't designed for a modern figure, you need to be a shopping expert to unearth that cute piece just like the one you saw Natalie Portman wearing on the red carpet. Blame Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City for making a mix of vintage and clashing styles and prints look so good. Remember that Sarah Jessica Parker had a full-time stylist who picked every outfit for the show. The rest of us should be very careful.

"Stilettos define your calf muscles, add some height and make your legs look longer."

"It's 2006 - there are no rules."

"Every woman needs one good dark suit in their wardrobe."

"Dress Code: Black Tie."

"Just update your wardrobe with this season's hot accessories."

"I get all my great pieces from eBay now."

"A size 12 is a size 12 is a size 12."

"Shop to invest - buy designer pieces and you will never regret it."

"They look great on you."

For details on the remaining Nine that I headlined go to:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/fas.....ullpage#contentSwap2

They are pretty funny and very true!

Suzi has her new DVD recorder for the TV. I am rapt. The quality is wonderful and no more annoying VHS Tapes. YAY!!!
I got a Pioneer 80g HD in a brushed silver. I love it. I have recorded to the HD several shows and they are clear and easy to find and fantastic to FFWD through the adverts. I paid Cost for the Pioneer and $79. for Full 5 yr warranty $600. all up. We searched 10 big retailers and JB HI-FI had the best deal on the coast. It was the second last one in the store and DVD recorders are now being made with 160gb HD's and higher. I am happy with what I have got.

Yay Dara!!!
Now where's that new pic of you with a great big smile? My daughter and I have fantastic smile because we both had braces when we were in our early teens. In 'my day' they were called 'bands' because a metal band went around the entire tooth, and anyway, braces were those things that held up your trousers! heheh. Oh my Dara, you wont know yourself, then in a couple of weeks you'll forget you ever had them on!

Thanks Norman, I am very happy with it. The 80gb models are all being superceded by 160's now. I could have bought a 160gb model pioneer from one place on wednesday (because they didn't want me to leave the shop and  buy somewhere else) for $700. but I didn't have THAT much money. In fact I spent at least $50-$100 more than I budgeted for and had to forego other less important things.

Well I finally started my assignment for english which I'vebeen putting off since before camp, though printing two songs isn't excactly making a good start but oh well
You see we have to analyse 2 poems and 1 song or 2 songs and 1 poem so I picked some random poem and two very intellectual songs, I still call australia home and home among the gum trees
haha.
Don't get me wrong I don't usually bludge english... but I think analysing poems saying what it means to be australian and all australian crap is stupid when you're not even australian
So I got my poems off a kids website, smartness huh
Cooking up a roast
Vegemite on toast
Just you and me
And a cup of tea
The use of rhyming in this poem demonstrates the companionship amongst australian's which has been around forever though the ideals have changed drastically over the years. this will be discussed. think, just you and me, and a cup of tea. this is very common these days. in the old days it was not. but they did other stuff. australian spirit etc.
I am so tempted to hand that in. must find a tape recorder, did i mention it turns into a radio show? the 3rd one in two years, i HAte them!
haha im putting off starting by typing a really long post. should stop.
brilliant work i did don't yous think? hahahah!
EDIT- brilliant brainwave, do my show on big brother, with examples on claire's backstabbing, hahaha!

Those words reminded me of a song I used to love, still do

Me and You and a Dog named Boo..........by Lobo

I remember to this day
The bright red Georgia clay
And how it stuck to the tires
After the summer rain
Will power made that old car go
A woman's mind told me that so
Oh how I wish
We were back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named boo
How I love being a free man

I can still recall
The wheat fields of St. Paul
And the morning we got caught
Robbing from an old hen
Old McDonald he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth
Another tank of gas
And back on the road again

Me and you and a dog named boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named boo
How I love being a free man

I'll never forget the day
We motored stately into big L.A.
The lights of the city put settlin'
Down in my brain
Though it's only been a month or so
That old car's buggin' us to go
We've gotta get away and get back on
The road again

Me and you and a dog named boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named boo
How I love being a free man

Me and you and a dog named boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named boo
How I love being a free man

My daughter is now 29 and my son is 21 and a half.
Kat and I had braces from ages 13 through to 15 or so. The 'bands' they used in 'my day' actually have done a lot of harm to my teeth. The band was so tight it actually put such stress on the tooth that mine now have vertical cracks and are starting to deteriorate. I have lost one and have been told a couple more will need pulling within a couple of years. Not happy about that.
Kat's were put on when the bands were improved and didn't go around the circumference of the tooth. I remember wearing the plate Dara, and had the lisp with it. Braces, I remember were not the most comfortable things to kiss with.

Good news for all South Australian students (like me): Holidays have started today!

What a bummer that it had to be ruined by homework like major projects and whatnot... but then again I have 1 full term left and the final exams. I'm really excited.

No way, Year 12 is much harder than Year 11. The marking is much more strict.

Year 11 doesn't have more work; it's harder and far more is expected of students.

Hey norman, it says that your feedback is down but I tested it out anyway and it gave me the entire message as the URL.  I don't know how php works but if you find a big a** filename that worries you then that would be why.

index.php?email=&message=Blah+Blah+Blah and onward for about 20 minutes of typing.

it's actually index.php?email=&message=If+you...blah.blah.blah if you need to delete a file and it's causing problems, just use If*
Like I said, I don't know how php might work to store that but it was one funky web address.

Thanks Dean. I've worked out all the problems on the Feedback page. Thank you for pointing that out for me.
EDIT: The text you see after the questionmark is not part of the file name, but rather part of the script that sends the message to me.

If you sent any suggestions beforehand, I suggest you re-send them because I have just re-activated my account.

Hahaha...the skit!! Its all coming back to me now! Ours was terrible I think...we done it last minute.. How was yours?

Loved the trade expo...best part. Our business was pretty average overall...I cant remember if we won any awards. Yeah Finance was really boring. There was the Finance Director and Finance Assistant...and I was the Finance Director Got so nervous when I had to do the speech about our income and expenses etc.

We all ended up with a Cert 2 in small business management

But yeah...a highlight of year 10.

Uni is so, so, so much better than school... I think you'll like it. Make sure you go to all lectures and tutes...and dont get lazy like me , otherwise you'll fall behind bigtime.

Which uni are you going to, if you dont mind me asking   How many are there in Adelaide??

There are 4 or 5 in Adelaide (of which 3 are the major ones), and I'm going to Flinders Uni. It's great, I'll see if I can get up there and take some pictures and upload them here. It's really wonderful there, really spacious, 24/7 computer centre, massive library, 5000 or so students... can't wait

If normangerman does not come good with the pic promise . . . I will . . . Flinders Uni has to have some of the prettiest views from a Uni in the world.
(the pine trees this week were a hayfever nightmare though).
The main forecourt has views over all Adelaide and to the beaches. . .from high on a hill . . just beautiful.

There is always one particular member or other rubbing us the wrong way at one time or another! Grin and bear it. Mean Dean has been missing for at least a month maybe more. He only has personal messaging which is useless if he doesn't come on. I miss him and his sometimes controversial posts. He went missing when Aussies Online was at his worst just before he was banned. Come Back Mean Dean... please!

I will add this - if someone has something to say to me then say it too me - the forum is not a place for comment as posted above
Quoted Text
very nasty and harsh in their postings.
Snide remarks about a particular person in another posting area is not addressing an issue it is hiding from facing and dealing with a matter.

I have clearly added to my account details for contact - I do not hide from my comments and thoughts and i have no intention to start now. I base my replies souly on the weight of evidence available at that time and relevant experience- If i find that I am wrong or mistaken ( based on the weight of evidence provided) then I am willing to admit that i was wrong ( as I have done so prior).

If I am expressing my thoughts as what I think or believe then i will say that.

Totally agree! If there is an issue where a member has a problem with another member then please, calmly message them through PM or email.
Getting snippy on the open forum accomplishes nothing. I know how it makes me feel when members openly have a go at me either directly or indirectly on the open forums. Not nice. We are grown ups for heaven's sake and can surely speak to each other without alluding to things on the open forum. If someone has posted something inflammatory and completely out of line then report their post to Admin through the appropriate button, that's what they are there for. I often check things with Admin. So please if you have an issue with a member over their posts or attitude on the forums then tell them, in private. If any member gets an abusive or nasty PM from another member then please forward it onto Admin or one of us Mods to take care of. Don't let things get to the point where you either put a member on ignore or you wanting to leave the forums. Nip it in the bud. Cheers Suzi

Hi, I'm new and just thought I'd introduce myself! I'm a 31 year old bloke and live in the town of Harlow in England, a half hour train journey away from central London. I notice that most of you seem to be Aussies, my missus is too. I got married over there and have visited there twice, great country! Look forward to chatting to you!

Welcome Peter Parka. Your avatar... is a funnelweb spider, is it not? By the way, the red back spider reminds me of the time I was bitten, in a delicate area, when I was 15 by a red back and a most unpleasant experience it was too! Bet your retired greyhound is gorgeous.
Enjoy your time on our friendly forums. Cheers SuziH

Maybe Dara is one of those 'internet angel's or whatever they're called, who is really a 45 yr old policeman trying to snare an internet predator!

Its funny how we think ppl are who they're not. I also thought Alleycat was a gal, probably because Paula is a gal who also has a cat for an avator. I thought Nannyfan was a girl too.

Meanwhile, wheres Lawnbowler at?

Cheers for the welcome, all! I was married at Murphys Creek which is just outside Toowoomba in Queensland. I had a great time when I was over. I climbed Sydney harbour bridge, went to the Opera house (to see a human freak show!) and swam with dolphins! Happy days!

I did the bridge climb in the day but I've heard it's a lot better at night. Apparently a little while before I did it they were doing the first climb of the day, got to the top and someone during the night had somehow managed to dump a shopping trolley full of empties at the top! Still wonder to this day how they managed it and unnoticed too!

Totally, I rekon we have a couple of network spies in here, monitoring what we say. I could have sworn we came up with the 'choose your own movie' idea, where you SMS your choice out of 3 movies to be shown!

Oh, and good luck on trial exams! Just remember, they're only TRIALS! Don't forget to take in your supply of brain food! Mine was lollies and a bottle of water...

i had a horrible teacher once..back in year 7.
she made one of my friends cried by calling her a witch. my fwend didn't haf a small delicate nose (since then she had it done) and was often teased for that. even tho we were a bit loud and uncontrollable (not me, i was a goody 2 shoes ), there was no need for name calling esp. from a teacher. so our whole class marched to the principle's office to complain, and as a result she was fired (or she was pressured into quitting).

if you are happy, i am happy too

Well, the Physics trial exam sucked, so many confusing and odd questions that didn't make sense. There were explanations missing, values missing... oh well, it's not going to my TER anyway, and it was only a trial.

Todat it was IT (Computing) and Maths.

IT was easy, and that's exacly why I'm using it for my TER. I'm estimating a 16 or 17 for the final score. I have already done German (19) and Maths Methods (17) last year, and Religion is done and dusted, and I got a 16. English Communications is going well, a 17 or 18 (downgraded to a 15 or 16) expected. So I sould be on a TER of 90.

Maths was not that good, I didn't study properly I guess. I was focusing on IT anyway when studying last night.

I'm doing normal english.
Is 90 good norman? I have no idea what you mean by all those scores!
What's maths methods? Is that a subject?

90 is average. And yes, Maths Methods is an easier version of Maths Studies.

*sigh*  I have been sick for 4 weeks with a sinus infection and am on my 7th lot of antibiotics.  I'm told if they (plus the expensive nasal spray) don't work I might have a blockage.  That means surgery. And to make things worse I am rundown.  Poor me! I hate being sick

Attention chocoholics! Has anyone seen this new Cadbury product called Snaps? Its like eating chocolate Pringles! They're shaped like a small potato chip and have bits of rice crips in them to give them a 'cruncy' texture! Very delicious!!

I'd never heard of them, or seen them until yesterday when I stumbled across them by accident. They're not on the Cadbury website in Australia, but they are on the UK one. BTW did you know Cadbury from the UK tastes completly different to ours in Australia? Its so much nicer, and so creamy! Its more like a fancy chocolate like Lindt. If you know anyone going to the UK, get them to bring you back some Cadbury chocolate and see for yourself!

OK, I'm back with a quick update.

It's the holidays! But what holidays... study, work and catching up on remaining homework... great...

I will be back after my final exams, which should remove most (if not all) destractions. I really want my high TER, so I will have to do the best I can.

See you people on the 15th of November. I might drop in once in a while, but I won't post.

Bye!

I won't be on much tonight as I am currently reformatting my computer. I bought a new Motherboard and CPU (AMD 3500+ ) so I'm on my parents' old heap of junk.

And I will eventually get to you with that TGYH clip, Sillygostly.

Agree -  The purpose of a Forum is to express ones thoughts, ideas, and opinion to blatantly control a forum to force comment or direction of comments is an abuse of power.

Granted slanderous comment and those that are defamatory is unacceptable but this shouldn't be controlled as to delete the post but editing of those remarks that would be under this heading would be acceptable.

This is a Public Forum it is for the public - without members there is no forum , no room for discussion. Users will never see eye to eye we all think differently and just because they don't see your point of view doesn't mean they are wrong.

Personal attacks should not be allowed , that is a given  but if those attacks go unmonitered then the attackee has a right to defend themselves.

It is NOT acceptable to remove one post and allow another that is not showing an equal unbias balance.

Seems some people are hell bent on tossing thier weight around  to show "whos boss".

Anthropologists' recent discovery of a new branch in the origins of humankind is rewriting our understanding of evolution.

Homo floresiensis, a small-brained, proto-human that apparently lived on the islands of Indonesia as recently as several hundred years ago, walked upright, used basic tools and, according to local legend, had the ability to simulate human speech by “parroting” words without actual comprehension.

Most anthropologists believe that homo floresiensis became extinct and only a skeletal record of their existence remains. A minority of anthropologists, however, particularly those in the field of political anthropology, are convinced that homo floresiensis did not go extinct.

“In fact,” says Dr. Friedrich Nudelmann who is the chair of the political anthropology department at the Spukenheim Universität of Wahlgestohlen-Pferdapfel, “the evidence is overwhelming that this distant relative of homo sapiens sapiens has flourished and continues to thrive right under our noses.”

Dr. Nudelmann notes that while it may be difficult to obtain definitive DNA proof for his contention, the anecdotal and empirical evidence prove that homo floresiensis walk among us today.

“Look at this diagram,” says Dr. Nudelmann as he points to the large map that hangs on his office wall. “In the United States, in particular, you can see large swaths of the country, the so-called “red states”, where it is obvious to even the untrained eye that the majority of the voting population are small-brained creatures who are incapable of even the most rudimentary ability to think.” Dr. Nudelmann then tapped his pointer gently on the metropolis of Washington D.C. “I suspect,” he said clicking his tongue, “that Mr. Bush, your current President, has a strong homo floresiensis pedigree that accounts for his peculiarly small brain and his tendency to repeat words without comprehension, much like a parrot. His father was like that, too, you know,” whispered Dr. Nudelmann with an insightful nod.

Dr. Nudelmann's theory has sparked a debate among political anthropologists around the globe where many have long asserted that humankind is certainly not a single life form, but comprised of many sub-species of homo sapiens sapiens.

Two such sub-species, according to classical political anthropology theory, are homo deceptis deceptis and homo kleptograndis. Whereas one of the true evolutionary advantages of homo sapiens sapienswas its ability to lie, deceive, trap and trick other animals such that it might thrive at their expense, homo deceptis deceptis evolved the ability to deceive itself and others of its own specie. This peculiarly advantageous characteristic has allowed homo deceptis deceptisto thrive as politicians, televangelists and news/entertainment talking heads, especially during the early years of the Twenty-first Century when the lack of any sense of ethics, shame and honesty has been highly prized. Likewise, another specie, homokleptograndis, has colonized large swaths of Wall Street. This near relative of the human race is often found as directors and officers of the world's largest multinational corporations. Most examples of homo kleptograndis have unusually long fingers that they use for filching money, and they typically also have a peculiar form of tunnel vision that prevents them from seeing anything other than their short-term goals. They are sometimes found to coexist with homo capitalisticus, an intelligent, but otherwise also distinct race of sub-humans.

Homo capitalisticus and homo deceptis deceptis, although they have a similar morphology in common with ordinary human beings, share a strong genealogical connection with another living human dinosaur, americalithicus imperialisticus. Americalithicus imperialisticus actually has a large metallic exo-skeleton that people sometimes mistake for an SUV. Whereas regular human beings are omnivores that eat meat and vegetables, americalithicus imperialisticus are cannibals. They tend to consume everyone and everything that gets in their way, including their own children and the children of others. Americalithicus imperialisticus also tend to consume large quantities of crude oil and high explosives. Americalithicus imperialisticus seems to prey mostly on java man and sheeple americalithicus.

Java man is a race that spends most of its time blissfully sipping milk-diluted, overpriced coffee, drinking low calorie beer and going shopping. This poor creature is utterly oblivious to the predations of americalithicus imperialisticus. In addition to java man, sheeple americalithicus, in particular, forms a large part of the carnivorous diet of americalithicus imperialisticus. Although the sheeple seem to believe that they are the world's top dogs”, they are utterly incapable of recognizing that, in reality, they are mere “dog food” in the food chain of the predator species that leads and feeds on them.

Whereas homo sapiens sapiens first congregated in caves, and later developed agriculture and urban living, sheeple amercalithicus have always lived in large clusters of amorphous suburbs where they allow themselves to be herded and dominated by republicanus neanderthalis. Republicanus neanderthalis, and its related specie, homo imbicilus religicus, are currently the dominant humanoid specie. However, there is a strong likelihood that, based on their current behavior, republicanus neanderthalis and homo imbicilus religicus soon will be raptured into extinction caused by global warming and a rapidly escalating world war for increasingly scarce fossil fuels and other natural resources.

Assuming that humankind endures -- an unlikely, merely theoretical possibility that political anthropologists academically debate -- it is probable that Thinking Man, homo sapiens sapiens, will finally emerge from the shadow of its lesser, non-rational relatives, and assume its role at the top of what remains of the world's biosystems

i don't know what to do..

im not sure if i should change courses..

should i continue with chemical engineering/microbiology or switch to biochemistry/phsiology?

i'm more interested in biochem/phsiology, but i think it'll be easier for me to find a job if i do engineering.

As with all Degrees it depends what you want to achive out of it in the end if your interest is in Medicine then you have to choose courses that not only follow the requirement towards the end result.

If you are only doing a Degree for the sake of doing one then at the end of the period are you going to have what you need for your choosen career?

There is always the other option of following your interest and take electives in another field. It is common for many people to start a degree and after 2 years find another field within it.

Chem Eng is not really in the field of Medicine but more of design, sure it can offer the opportunity of creativity but if your looking at microbiology then what benefit is it going to offer? Two vastly different courses here .

reddy-brown is the safest colour to dye your hair, it looks good on most people.
i want to dye my hair purple, not the whole head but maybe a little spot somewhere..

thanks for your advice bout my course.. i think i'll go with what i'm interested in and study biochem/phsiology.. even tho dad may be a little disappointed
for some reason he's fixated on me becoming an engineer, he says i can do whatever i want, but you can tell by his voice and expressions that he's not happy...
btw, i didn't know engineers drink that much .

okay, what i want to talk about...
is having a shower before you sleep weird?
my friends were so surprised that i shower before i sleep and not in the morning. i'd feel so dirty if i don't shower before i go to bed.
however, i have showered in the morning when i skipped it the night before. these were times when i had study until 1 in the morning and didn't want a shower that would disturb my sleep, but on those nights i sleep on the carpet

if you are happy, i am happy too

hahaha... I have very bad sleeping patterns. Sometimes I go to bed at 4 and get up at around 10 And plus I've got most classes at uni in the afternoon/night, unless I've class in the morning then I go to bed earlier. Sometimes I cant sleep at all, so I just lay there and get bored so I come on eblah

But yeh... thats my life story...

Lol!

In the paper it had sample QCS questions from previous ones so I did them (there were 13) and I got 11 right. Not too bad for a yr 12 exam Only 2 I got wrong were this map of QLD with all these arrows going everywhere, stuff on that.

I would like some advise. I have been 'involved' with a nice man whom I call my 'friend with benefits' for almost 5 years, on and off. Mostly off. He is a workaholic and has been working for 7 days a week over the past 2 months and I have not seen him for 12 weeks now. He has only replied to one SMS (I have only sent two) and has sent me one SMS this week with 'Hello Susie' written on it. I replied to it but nothing from him since. (we are both single).
I have noticed a man working where I buy my meat and am attracted to him. He is between 45-50 by my estimation (I am 51 now) and has a lovely smile, grey hair and moustache. I like when he serves me. Today I had to speak with the manager regarding a mistake with their eftpos and was in his office. Before I left I asked him if the guy I am attracted to (I found his name out yesterday) is married. Josh looked puzzled and then said... 'Oh no, he's been single for sometime now, divorced, has kids'. I told him I was interested in
the man and left. Now... what should I do? I have thought that handing him anote with my first name and mobile number on it to him saying 'If you would like to meet for coffee sometime, please give me a call'. Do you think I have the right Idea on how to approach this? What would you do in the same situation? Some ideas please!
