Congrats Paula. I don't even look at how many I have anymore

Lurveit... I remember when I was a year or two older than you looking in Newcastle and surround for a rental place. I was treated like you. I had a little girl then and I was rejected because places didn't 'want' children. This is 27-28 years ago mind you when discrimiation was rife. In the end I applied without my daughter being present (at pre-school/daycare) and got a beautiful waterfront cottage on Lake Macquarie at Nords Wharf. I think it is your age that they see and not the 'person'. Because of my lower income now ($310.00 pw) I had to lower my sights on rentals.
Yesterday I found a 2 bedroom unit, No.2 in a row of 4. It has pale blue walls throughout and has 2 good sized bedrooms, it is old and needs a lick of paint and some work. The owner is getting the lounge room recarpeted and the kitchen and laundry tiled. The laundry is quite literaly a cupboard. The neighbours are women, like myself and the guy in number 4 is gay with a mini fox terrier. The curtains are shot to hell but I can fix that because I sew and have heaps of material. To keep the ambience of the place I was accepted in a heartbeat The tenant/lady has gone back to live with her abusive ex-husband and will officially be out on the 16th. The carpeting and tiling will be done then and I can move in after that That's the latest from me. Just hang in there Lurveit, come across like you know exactly what you are doing and that you will take no s**t. Your money is as good as the next person's and you should be given the chance to start a rental history. You have to start somewhere.   I sell myself very well, am not shy at saying I will be the best tenant they've ever had. I am on a pension and that didn't make any of the Real Estates balk because I have never had a black mark against my name in the 18 years I have been renting. Good Luck.

I officially - HATE real estate agents!!!!

Its like they're only nice to the ppl wanting to buy a house.. us renting are treated DIRT!

In the past few weeks I have met A LOT of real estate agents and I have one thing to say - they dont want to help you - they dont even want to get out of their chairs or give you eye contact... 'hello, person away from that computer would like to try and get a property to live in .. over here - that IS what you do isn't it?!?!?! ahhhh'

I dont know if its because I look too young to have a penny to my name or what but they are down right rude - the way they talk to you.. jeez! the way they treat you - 'papers over there with rental properties on it'... um, thanks??

I'm sorry guys - suzi are you having this same problem with the agencies around you or is it just us on southside that are having to deal with these people??

That's really bad! Probably because they think you are too young or something. Stupid people! Oh well.. do you really want to have a proper conversation with people like that, at least if they brush you off you can ignore them

I met the mini foxy and only caught a glimpse of his owner and that was all. I was there with the Real Estate who just happens to be the owner. I get the keys on Friday the 16th and can start moving in then but no rush because I am minding my daughter's house, cats and rats until she returns on the 23rd. I have to organise for my furniture to be delivered probably around the 21st and the phone connected and the electricity activated and my adsl hooked up for the day I actually move in, probably the 23rd because that's a Friday. I may hire a small delivery/courier van and put all the boxes and stuff that I have at my daughter's place because it takes so much out of my car coming up Buderim Mountain where she lives, up hill and down dale, plus the petrol just disappears. Buderim is beautiful BUT I am going to live back down in Maroochydore because it is flat and I like the area so much. Have lived in Maroochydore for 13 years. I can even get rid of my car in a couple of months because public transport is less than 100 meters away and a taxi would only cost $7 to get me home with my groceries. Maybe less if I get my 'friend with benefits' to bring me home   I am beginning to get excited about this 'new' phase in my life

Blah Blah Cafe

There are so many threads it's hard to keep up with everyone without jumping from thread to thread and sometimes you just want to chat about nothing without it being themed which gives it a limited scope.

For those of us who haven’t got the time to search every thread looking for some conversation I thought it would be a good idea if we had somewhere to talk about anything and everything. Idle chatter with some gossip thrown in but without being "themed", like you would do if you did go out to a cafe.

So to start I'd like to say that I'm still looking for work but I'm getting really annoyed because most businesses just don't reply even if it is an advertised job.  If I just sent letters to everyone and anyone then I would imagine they don't feel obliged to acknowledge you but when they advertise a vacancy then it should only be proper to answer every enquiry.

The weather up here has been good the last couple of weeks with good rain and cooler temperature.  That’s it for tonight I’m off to bed now so goodnight and seeya soon.
