Mine (when he sends it) may be a lite as well, a classic one as you say Silly, where are you off to OS? There are some countries I would love to visit that are not on the normal 'must see' lists. Mongolia, Turkey, Greece, parts of Vietnam, parts of Persia/Iran. Maybe in my next lifetime. I would even love to go to Hong kong with my Son and DILaw but don't think my health and fitness would allow it That MUST be why I love travel docos and shows I am an arm chair traveller
He said the lite is the new one?
I LOVE other countries. They are so interesting. The countries I want to go to are: UK Ireland Macedonia or Romania or Bulgaria Belarus Armenia Georgia Peru Sweden Denmark Norway Iceland Malta The arctic circle Morocco South Africa Greece Italy or Spain Switzerland and France again Petra etc ^_^

No, no. I meant that my original DS was the DS Classic. I gave that one to my brother and my mum bought me a cyan DS Lite (the new model).
Below you'll find a comparitive shot of the two systems. From a technical standpoint, the two systems are identical, however the Lite has a longer battery life, and a screen which is about 4x brighter than the original model... And my GOD it makes the games look so much richer.
Turkey, since that's where my parents are from. My mum wants me to see my relatives at least once every few years (last time I went overseas was in 2003, and in 2000 before that). If it were up to me, I'd've gone to London. Oh well, next time.
I'll be gone for about 3 weeks so don't fret if I suddenly disappear.

Looking...looking....can't find the comparative pic When did the Lite come out?
Do you see much of Turkey when you go, Silly. What region do you usually go to? I'll get a map of Turkey and have a look. I have just made friends with a handsome tall lean Persian man. We had a big chat one day and he told me of his heritage. I find Aussies like me very boring especially their heritage. We are such a young country and mostly from convict stock, those of us who came after the indigenous aboriginals. I downloaded some Persian, Turkish, Indian music to get the feel for what kind the Persian man plays. Loved a lot of it, not especially keen on the singing but instrumentals are beautiful.
BTW Silly... you will not just disappear you shall say 'so long' to us, your friends and we shall await your return with bated breath because we all love our Silly the Ghost
What exactly is Silly doing in the current avatar, silly?

Ooops, sorry! I was rambling on about going overseas that I forgot all about it. (I've attached them now)
The original DS was released in Japan in late 2004 [it wasn't released in Australia until Feb 2005] (I bought mine circa June/July 05), and the DS Lite was released sometime in June 2006. Apparantly a third model has been patented by Nintendo, but we're yet to get a glimpse of it.
Do you see much of Turkey when you go, Silly. What region do you usually go to?
I usually stay in Ankara where most of my family live (I spent quite a bit of time in Ankara in 2003, where I usually stayed with either my lovely cousins who are deaf; or one of my aunts). We tend to make a stop at Karakoças village (literally meaning Black Ram) at least once, but I'm not sure if it's worth going back now since my late granddad's house would be infested with vermin as it's been uninhabited since his passing.
During my visit in 2000, I went to Gaziantep (best known for their Antep nuts , which my mum sprinkles on baklava) to stay with and meet one of my uncles who was still in the army at the time. We stayed there for about a week or so.
My OS trip in 2003 began in Germany (to meet my oldest uncle), about a week later they drove us to Belgium (where some cousins on my mum's side live), and while we were there they took us to Paris for a day (the only highlight being the fact that I was atop the Eiffel Tower, but I so pissed off with everyone that I couldn't really savour the novelty of it ), and we made a brief stop at Holland a few days later but it was late in the afternoon and everywhere was shut.
Oh, and I while I was at Belgium I saw the Mannekin Pis (and Mini-Europe). I even grabbed a couple of commemorative coins while I was there but I lost them along with my wallet when I went to Turkey.
What annoyed me most though was that I was let to believe that we were gonna go to London, but that never came to pass. Anyways, our last stop during my OS trip was Turkey. Midway through the trip we stayed at Istanbul for a few days (unfortunately I couldn't really go anywhere since i was couped up in a hotel room most of the time watching the kids), however I did get to wander the streets a wee bit. Kids have always been a burden so I couldn't really see much of the world at all. I think I left the house only once or twice while I was in Germany.

Nice pics Silly.... so he is 'going' commando and not he is A commando?! Blurred out pink bits, that is so funny, I actually thought that was a weird tongue. Suzi needs a nap now....ZZZZzzzzzzzz.
Get it right out there Dara, don't be shy! I think Silly has mentioned before but I didn't put it in my memory bank. I am envious of anyone who has been outside Australia full stop! I have been to Tasmania but that's not counted (is it?). I do not have nor ever had a Passport I think travel is wonderful especially all the places Silly has visited in his young life. My second husband decided where we were honeymooning (big mistake, confer with your soon to be spouse before the big day). He was tossing up between The Snowy or Fiji... The Snowy (Perisher to be exact) or Fiji... a no brainer since I had NEVER been to the snow or skiied. At that point in time, 1983 and almost 28 years of age, I was a small size 12 and weighed 60kg and looked great in swimmers. Fiji, or any tropical island would have been fabulous. We went to the snow where I didn't learn to ski because he wouldn't spring for the lessons. He'd been skiing since he was 10 and had a ball I sat on a rock and froze my bum off. Ahhhh, memories!

I'm pretty sure I would've mentioned it in passing but I don't blame you guys for not remembering hehe. Anyways, my sister has cerebal palsy (in order words, brain damage); she can't walk or talk properly, but she's not a total cripple. After all, she can walk and talk (and she's been through high school and all that), but obviously not at the same capacity as the average person. She was like that at birth as she was born premature (at only 500 grams), however she also had a twin (at around 800 grams), who the doctors thought was going to survive as she seemed like the healthier one of the two, but ironically enough, the "healthier" one died of internal bleeding (and my living sister was named 'Angel' in Turkish) as it was assumed that she would be the one to cease. She'll be 21 in August. The one who died was about 2 weeks old.
I've seen some pictures of my deceased sister, and I must say that they're very unsettling. Apparantly my mum was also facing a health crisis on her own when she was trying to deliver the two girls. It doesn't really affect me so much but it is upsetting knowing the unfortunate circumstances behind it all. I mean, imagine losing your first child... So yeah, that's the story.
And for the record, my sister's not the angel that her name makes her out to be.

Wow. Do you ever intend on going overseas? Just so somewhere. Anywhere. Who knows, you might actually like it considering that you don't have children burdening you.
Oh, and I'm not nearly as "traveled" as I might make myself out to be.
I was only in Paris for less than a day, and most of my OS trips in 2000 & 2003 were spent couped up indoors. Plus at one point in my trip in 2003, I both vomited and crapped my pants simulataneously. Though I'll add that that wasn't in fact the most humiliating moment of my life. I always get sick while I'm at Turkey. However while I was in Germany, I was actually stacking on a few kilos for the first time in my LIFE. Needless to say I lost all the additional weight (and then some) while I was at Turkey. Mind you I was only 40kg at the time. (and I put on, and shed around around 5kg ). I currently weigh 51kg.
Hopefully though, my next trip won't be so restrained (as my sister won't be attending), plus, I think I'll have no choice but to travel on my own (although there's a slim chance that one of my cousins will be joining me). Considering that my mum PANICKED when I would occassionally forget to call her to verify that I made it to uni alive when I first started driving there late last year, I'm actually a little surprised she's not being so panicky about me travelling OVERSEAS on my own.

Sounds like the sort of situation that today's reality shows would be eating up. Sorry you had such an awful time though. *hugs*
Yikes. I think I've yapped enough for one evening. Good night everyone!
I love Billy Connolly the comedian and when readings silly's post re the both ends thing I was reminded of an experience Billy spoke of. The family went to Majorca and the kids were old enough to understand stuff. The children were told not to drink any water except out of the bottles they bought. When Billy felt the rumble in the tummy and the whole sitting on the loo for a day thing the children were asked about the water bottles and yes the little darling kept refilling the water bottles from the tap in the belief as long as it was in the bottle it was okay!
Your Mother, Silly, must of been a mess (emotionally) after the twin's birth! Oh my God. It's a miracle she even had more children what a brave woman. So hard to have a disabled child and it must of been hard for you to have a disabled sibling. I know your sister is still with you but things must get a bit better as you and they age. Silly, you weigh the same as my 31 yr old daughter I have a friend who is from Thailand. She is married to an Aussie and is an Aussie herself now. She goes back to Thailand every 18months to 2 years to visit family and stay with her Mum. Very very basic living. She tells me she always is sick for the first week because of the food etc but enjoys the following 2 weeks. She cooks Thai at home but not the same obviously.
This time, silly, you will notice a huge difference being alone on your trip. Hopefully a bit more freedom.

That's not much consolation given that my mum weighs about the same as me as well (although she'd weigh about 2-5 kilos more).
My dad always wanted to have a big family so my guess is that they wanted to try their luck with a less problematic pregnancy (funnily enough, I was overdue by like 3 weeks ). I was disappointed that they never had more as I would love to have had a sibling that I can get along with on a more personal/intellectual level (especially in the later years of my life) as I'm more than 12 years older than my baby brother, and I can't exactly have an intelligent conversation with my sister.
