Yaay I now have the current season of King of the Hill on my Ipod. And it converts REALLY quickly as well. Only 4-6 minutes for a 22 minute video. Beats watching it on the computer hehe. I also put in some of my YouTube videos on my iPod for measure. |

Good for you Dara!!! What an accomplishment. Hip, hip, hooray!
You will savour every moment before going back next year and doing Year 12. Just think, one more year to go of secondary school. Any ideas what you want to do after you finish year 12? Apart from breathing a huge sigh of relief?!? |

Don't get scared either Dara - I continued to change my mind also. I hated that question of what are you going to do - because I had NO IDEA! However, that's a good thing because the people that sit there saying they know exactly what they want to do - do that for three years out of high school and THEN end up saying - 'maybe that wasn't for me...' with a huge financial debt included. Whereas, those that are truthful with it and experience a little of this and a little of that find their passion faster. When I was finishing high school I was trying to get into TAFE and UNI because I thought - that’s what everyone else was doing so it must be the best option. However, I decided I wanted a one year break and so I went on to work... first with hair, then sewing, then makeup, then in retail and then with children... (BINGO). I worked in Retail for over two years and then went to children. After working for a while I thought I would start my studies back up again and completed that faster than I realised - I also did REALLY well with my studies because I loved learning what I was learning. Now, I'm on to Uni (lol, if I get in) and I don't mind the four years (hopefully with a bit of travel in between) or the financial side because I KNOW this is what I want .. and this is what I love doing in this early stage of my life. So, when those panics start to set in next year (spesh when the guidance counsellor books their meetings for you - to talk about YOUR future) don't worry and don't do something just because everybody else is on THAT band wagon. Xx |

I agree about a career. I never had goals and typical of the times I got married young, had children and became a home maker. My 30 year old daughter worked at least one job and sometimes two from the age of 14 worked at least one job, sometimes two, while attending high school. She is now very goal driven, has her own business and is the 'airbrush body art champion of Australia'. When she finished school she did a course in 'hospitality' where she graduated dux of her class. She learned waitressing and bar tending through the course. After 7 years of hospitality she did a beauty therapy course and through that was introduced to air brushing. She has had her own airbrushing business for 8 years in December. I have never encouraged either of my children to go to TAFE, UNI or College. I don't believe in pushing young adults in any one direction as they will eventually figure out for themselves what they want to do. When I asked the question of you, Dara, I didn't mean to imply you should have your whole career life plotted out in fine detail. |

Lol alright then Well I have a few ideas I guess.. I think I do want to do uni, I know a trade is not for me. I am debating taking a year off or not, I want to travel to Europe sometime definitely. I have lots of ideas though, I've been through law, psychology, reporter, teacher, television something or other, financial jobs that pay a lot, cognitive science, medicine (no), and some more that I'm forgetting! Something businessy would be good though. Lurveit, yes with the guidence counceller, we already had a meeting in year 10 to plan for picking senior subjects, I had no idea so picked ones that would leave anything open (aka physics), and I kind of regret picking Ancient History over Legal studies. But in those interviews you just say anything it's scary!! Goodluck with uni Christmas in new york looks awesome... |

suzi, I hope you dont think I was saying it was the wrong question to ask or something horrible - I didn't mean it to come out the way I wrote it above. I just remember life after year 12 scared me personally but yes, my mother is very much like yourself - she's never once pushed me into anything but always supported every goal and praised any achievement - she's very proud of all us children. and thanks dara! |
