Just another revert back to babyhood that happens the older you get. Time flies when you're a baby, I mean, who can remember being 1 or 2, or even 3? Then you go bald, end up with no teeth, have to wear diapers again, eat mushy food, loose your balance and fall down a lot, fall asleep in the middle of social gatherings... |

It was so damned hot and sticky icky here today that everyone was complaining about it. Last week and on the weekend was cyclonic but cooler now... mozzies and clammy, yucky. So... how is everyone? |

This will show you how my brain can go off on tangents! I've been wondering.... where is Unwritten I have not seen them for at least a week. I watched Dancing with the Stars favourite bits last night and went to bed with Tom Williams dancing in my head (not sugar plum fairies). I will be damned glad (overjoyed actually) when The Commonwealth Games are OVER and I can watch my favourite shows once more. A sleep in for me is 8am. My budgies are chirping and happy. It's been raining very heavily on and off for 24 hours now. Cyclone Wati is bringing high wind gusts and rain. |

My big fat fashion fibsApril 8, 2006 Ten beauty myths crumble as the truth about stilettos, suits and style is revealed, writes Jacqueline Lunn.WHEN I WAS working on a monthly women's fashion magazine years ago, the international supermodel on the cover needed some touching up. Looking over her shoulder towards the camera, she had her wrinkles smoothed and her already stick-like arms thinned. "Backfat" above her shoestring-strap dress was wiped out with a click, her decolletage evened out and her neck stretched. There was so much digital alteration required that the computer didn't have enough memory to store it and the cover had to be scrapped. I quickly learnt the fashion world doesn't just trade in harmless fantasy - it is propped up and reinforced by half-truths, lies and more smoke and mirrors than backstage at an Alexander McQueen show. In this strange land full of pretty frocks, prettier girls and men who shape their eyebrows, use fake tan and swallow diet pills before having the ultimate say on what women wear, deception keeps the promise alive. The promise that somehow fashion can change us. Today we expose fashion's top 10 lies, in case you want to go cold turkey. Then we are going out, getting a coffee and flicking through another magazine. "Take risks and be individual with your style - it will set you apart from the pack."This is a trick. Being given carte blanche to mix spots and stripes, contrasting textures and contrasting styles (ballet tutus worn with tuxedo jackets) is just plain torture. Rules provide comfort and at least give you the hope of being able to follow. Ever trawled a second-hand shop looking for that perfect vintage piece to make your outfit truly your own? After sorting through stains and smells and shapes that weren't designed for a modern figure, you need to be a shopping expert to unearth that cute piece just like the one you saw Natalie Portman wearing on the red carpet. Blame Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City for making a mix of vintage and clashing styles and prints look so good. Remember that Sarah Jessica Parker had a full-time stylist who picked every outfit for the show. The rest of us should be very careful. "Stilettos define your calf muscles, add some height and make your legs look longer.""It's 2006 - there are no rules.""Every woman needs one good dark suit in their wardrobe.""Dress Code: Black Tie.""Just update your wardrobe with this season's hot accessories.""I get all my great pieces from eBay now.""A size 12 is a size 12 is a size 12.""Shop to invest - buy designer pieces and you will never regret it.""They look great on you."For details on the remaining Nine that I headlined go to: http://www.smh.com.au/news/fas.....ullpage#contentSwap2They are pretty funny and very true! |

Suzi has her new DVD recorder for the TV. I am rapt. The quality is wonderful and no more annoying VHS Tapes. YAY!!! I got a Pioneer 80g HD in a brushed silver. I love it. I have recorded to the HD several shows and they are clear and easy to find and fantastic to FFWD through the adverts. I paid Cost for the Pioneer and $79. for Full 5 yr warranty $600. all up. We searched 10 big retailers and JB HI-FI had the best deal on the coast. It was the second last one in the store and DVD recorders are now being made with 160gb HD's and higher. I am happy with what I have got. |
