I'm not sure if I believe all Friday the 13th's are cursed but I sure had a bad one yesterday. The trench I was laying storm water pipe in yesterday filled with sewerage from the septic tank nearby which was supposed to emptied.  We had to finish the drain laying because of a deadline. So I had a rather smelly day.

I got home late and then watched both my sporting teams lose miserably ( Crows and Socceroos).

My knee is killing me still and I am worried because I have already had two operations on it this year( 7 in total for both knees). Can anybody cheer me up by telling me they won the lotto yesterday or won a car or something.

No, but I am not superstitious, but yesterday
I burnt my tummy when pouring the water
out of the pot of boiled potatoes....it failed to go into
the sink and ran over to me instead. I tore of my jumper
and put ice on it for several hours, but it blistered  badly.
Think it will scar....(its not sore anymore.)

Always hopeful of winning it big with lotto.

The mental image of this was funny.   I was not laughing at the hot water but your remedy had me thinking.

I am just flabberghasted at this and blame the reliance on calculators...

UK adults fail child's maths test

One in 14 adults cannot answer a maths question aimed at eight-year-old children, a survey suggests.

And the poll of 2,000 adults for ITV DVD found that more 18-25-year-olds were unable to answer the question than those aged 55 plus.

The question was: What is one eighth of 32? The answers were: a) 6 b) 4c) 2 d) 8 e) None of these f) Don't know.

Schools secretary Ed Balls has just announced an inquiry into the way children are taught maths.

His announcement follows concerns that too many school leavers are unable to add up.

The survey found that basic numeracy skills are on the decline, with 96% of those aged 55-plus able to answer a "simple" maths question, taken from an eight-year-old's maths paper, correctly - compared with 88% of those aged 18-25.

The research was undertaken by ITV DVD to mark the DVD release of pre-school television programme Numberjacks: Calling All Agents!, which encourages children to develop key numerical skills.

The survey also showed that parents are starting to realise the extent to which pre-school learning helps later in life.

It found that 74% of adults believe watching educational programmes as a young child helps learning.

For any children under the age of eight, the correct answer is b) 4.

I was in a shop only a week ago and the item purchased was $40.  I was entitled to a 10% discount and while the guy was reaching for his calculator I said "thats $36".
He looked at me dumbfounded and "wow, thats quick, how did you do that", but he carried on to double check it.
The mind boggles how they ever hold down the job ?.
