In 18 years I have moved from Tamworth in NSW to Brisbane to the Sunny Coast. If I owned my own home I would of been tied down with not as many options. Also I have been through a divorce in the last 3-4 years and that would of meant a property settlement. Yes, I have worked out how much I have spent on rent either alone or as a couple and it is scary BUT it is also convenient in other ways. My last home was a 3 bedroom townhouse with a large yard that had I had money I could of bought almost 6 years ago for $95k! The landlords there are now charging $320. per week for their investment which they paid cash for! I nicknamed the old coot that shares with my daughter 'stampy' because he walks like an elephant (the Simpsons). Honestly he stamps/stomps on the polished board floors, up the stairs and across my daughter's loungeroom floor to their shared kitchen area. A sleep in was impossible at the house unless he was away overnight! He would stamp around the kitchen dining room which were above my bedroom. He even wakes my daughter up. It got to the stage where sharing with him was making her ill and she has had to block him out as best she can. She cannot wait to never see him again.

is the person an old family friend ? how did your daughter meet him in the first place ? and, I have to ask the question, why would she move in with a man that age ? tell me to mind my own business if you like, but its all a bit weird.

A housemate is a housemate. There to share the rent and most of the time that is all. She met him while looking for a new place to rent. He was doing the same thing but needed to share because of limited income. She was at the Real Estate agency she had rented through for many years. She was paying almost $300. per week in rent by herself and needed to save some money. It seemed a solution for both of their problems. He is well spoken having been born and raised in England and at first being introduced to him everyone thinks he IS a nice man. I however didn't because he said something to me within minutes of meeting me which set off alarm bells. The best thing to come out of it is through the limited work he does with disabled people with a Government agency, she found permanent work. She is an air brush body artist as well as painting skateboards and Kyaks with art, sketching and painting art frames and art. When you share rent with someone it can at least halve the rent and in this case they each pay $180. per week. Many many people here on the sunny coast share accomodate with total strangers. I know of quite a few.

I went to my daughter's quiet 30th birthday get together last night for 2 and a half hours. She had just 7 really close friends and myself! Her housemate was NOT invited so he decided to go out for the evening.
I had only met three of her close friends that attended, before. I have known them for years. Her friends ranged from 28 to 51 so I felt very comfortable. I came home early enough so that people would still be watching tv or whatever because my nest of units is so damned dark and out the front on the garages, there is no lighting. I was a little bit scared and very alert! The people in the units either side of my unit were up and watching TV which made me feel relaxed. I text messaged my daughter when I got safely inside telling her I was safe and love her heaps. She messaged back thanking me for coming to her 'party' and saying how much she loves me

Well guys.. I'm currently trying to buy myself my first car and I believe I'm about to do my head in big time!!

... I think where I've gone wrong is that I saw the car I first EVER wanted years ago! and now... thats all I want and I thought I had found it today - a lil Yellow Hyundai Hatch ... so cute!! BUT it was manual and when I sat in it... it just wasnt right ... so, I continued hunting and found a lil auto charade that when I sat in felt PERFECT but... I cant stand the exterior of this thing... its not me.   AHHHH!! THEN you've got to think of the financial side of it all... do I get a credit card with a 3/4 grand limit on it and buy a car out now... or do I get something on a 55/pw pay back that would in the end cost me double.

loooord... !!!

P.s It sounds like u had a lovely night celebrating your daughters 30th suzi! My mother was at my 21st with some family and she had LOADS of fun! we dressed up got a lil pissed 2getha... danced a bit of singing. lol. great fun!!

Never, never, never get finance for your car through a car loan. Go to your bank and apply for a personal loan. Lower interest and if you get it at a variable rate you can pay it off at a rate quicker than the minimum monthly payments. Try to buy a car that will hold it's second hand value (mazda or a toyota for example), try not to buy a car made in Korea (Hyundai and Kia) they do NOT hold their second hand value, one of the best small cars in Australia is a Holden Barina and Ford Focus' are also good small cars. Buy a car that will be cheap to buy parts for as well. I am not sure I would get a Mastercard to help with buying a car and once you go down the Credit road there is virtually no going back. Hope all goes well with the car hunting. The right one will be there for you, just keep looking and don't be disheartened.

Toyota is aways reliable and I agree with Suzi, get your loan from a bank or,  better still a Credit Union.

go to a credit union, and as for cars well, this is like politics, everyone has an opinion, so heres mine , you need a good reliable car that wont let you down, but ALL cars need to be maintained !!!, so I would suggest either Ford , Holden then Toyota , I would give Hundai a miss
