Ten is really suffering ratings-wise, and have filled their schedule with a load of awful shows. What should they replace their crappy schedule with?
MONDAY 7.30pm Australian Idol 8.30pm ??? (If Numb3rs is rating badly, they should replace it with Law & Order) 9.30pm The Biggest Loser
TUESDAY 7.30pm The Simpsons (Maybe Ten can get the rights to another animated show from Seven. 'King of the Hill'? 'Family Guy'?) 8.30pm ??? (If it were rating well, i'd say 'The O.C.' reruns, but I can't think of anything) 9.30pm ??? (I'm surprised Rove hasn't been axed yet)
WEDNESDAY 8.30pm House 9.30pm ??? (I think Criminal Intent, or The Shield should take this slot) 10.00pm ???
THURSDAY 8.30pm Law & Order : SVU 9.30pm The Surgeon (Meh, it's very uneventful, but I think i'll stick around to watching it this week) 10.00pm ???
FRIDAY 7.30pm The Simpsons (Ten should air By Request' specials, or theme nights.) 8.30pm ??? (Ten should start purchasing the rights to "box office hits" if their horrid line-up of movies are to rate well)
SATURDAY 7.30pm Oprah (I think Oprah should stay put. But I wish Ten would stop airing "Celebrity Specials" though.) 8.30pm ???
SUNDAY 7.30pm Australian Idol 8.30pm Mary Bryant (That mini-series will take up this slot next week, so...) |

Ten has it's hands on such great shows but put them on so late eg: The Shield, that they don't rate. I love Numb3rs but tape Grey's Anatomy and watch new stuff from the US on DVD. I Love all but the original Law and Orders. I find all commercial Stations buy up potentially great shows then stick them in nevernever land where they don't rate then they are justified in axing the show. |

Shows to go -
Idol any other reality TV show neigh-bores (intentional spelling!) Sports Tonight meet the press (just what the kids want to watch of a sunday morning that one!) Aerobics Oz Style (although my 13 year old has suddenly taken an interest in aerobics, I dont think it is for the exercise routines) Judge Judy Oprah
that'll do for a start! |

Please No. No more law and order. I don't care if they play test patterns instead but please no more repeats and franchise duds. I beseech the gods of television to save me from another frigging episode of any brand of law and order (don't take it personally Sillygostly...I just can't take it anymore) |

MONDAY Idol has to be put down, along with all reality TV (put em all in the BB house & tell theUS Bin Laden's in it) TUESDAY The more Simpsons the better Yeah Rove is pretty shocking (but he must rate well, all those logies) WEDNESDAY House was ten best call for a long time!! THURSDAY The sugeon is quite shocking, especially the first episode running straight after House FRIDAY Agree with you on Simpsons-by-request (replay more than seasons 1-6 ten) 10 also need to stop showing so many hours of Law & order & also put Galactica back on |

How about 10 bring back One Tree Hill and instead of showing old simpson repeats - show it instead(maybe the 7:30pm timeslot on a Friday night, which they did originally before they yanked it off air- 9 episodes into the 1st season).

Theres so many US programs we dont even get. I'd love some more comedy. Things with actors in them!! No more idol. 1/2 an hour a week is enough. They can each sing a 5 minute clip and people can vote. We don't need so many stupid hosts. Decent movies. Not these old movies that are on once a year. If you wanted to see the same movie that often, you would get cable Oprah prime time would be good, if they didn't put the same thing on day time oprah 2 weeks later. and oprah has been on tv for so many years in australia, and not bothered to come here once. Can Adelaide actually have a program thats for Adelaide? Im sick of all this stuff thats about melbourne or sydney. Something local would be good. Those stupid kids game shows or even adult game shows that people in SA have no chance of ever being on. LOCAL!!! Something we can do.. see live.. ect. Ready steady cook.. I dont like it. but it Could be local. I hate the uplate game show. it should be banned for discrimination. Law and order should be once a week, not almost every single day. I'd rather see the guardian and some new programs. The closer might be good on a night other than sunday at 9:30. Tuesday night simpsons is suppposed to be new episodes, but there have only been 3 new ones. They always put the same episodes on. Take yugio and morning programs like that off too. |

HELL NO... We don't need any of that cissy crap... and certainly not any corny witch programs or goody goody church rubbish. Get rid of the Surgeon - It's boring crap and isn't 1% as brilliant as the american dramas. All saints in the australians best hospital Drama, we don't need a cheesy pile of puke with actors and actresses who can't act a smidgen (I'm talking about 'the Surgeon' not All saints.) Enough with this reality bollocks... I swear if they put another series of Big Brother or Australian Idol, I'm going to go postal towards those guys. Sadly enough - Galactica was crap - It was on, and now it's not - Lets keep it that way. Sports tonight is way too long. You only need 5 mins to cover everything. BASICALLY - Less of the australian crap and more of the good American and British Shows. |

Just in tonight: Bert Newton will leave the Ten Network at the end of this year!
Channel Ten's CEO Grant Blackley has made the following statement:
"We have been in genuine negotiations with Bert for more than three months with a view to signing him to a new contract (and) have put forward a range of ideas and program opportunities to him, recognising his enduring position as one of Australia's - and Ten's - highest calibre stars."
Says Bert: "Fourteen years is a long time for any television show and this one was very special to me,"
"In making my decision, I felt with the show going to end, it made sense for me to make the break, too. I leave Ten with some great memories."
Ten is developing a brand new daytime show for 2006.
Well.. mornings will never be the same for me! I remember watching the very first episode of Bert's Morning Show, back when it was filmed in Nunanwading. Advertorials and all, it was my background music each morning for the past 15 years.
I wonder what/who will replace it? And what has Bert been lured to? Nine? Seven?

Maybe Bert just wants to retire and spend some time with his beloved Patty and family. He is of an age where he is probably thinking of at least winding down a bit. He must have very early mornings 5 days a week and that would be a killer. I wish him all the best anyway, he deserves it. |

Graceful exit and retirement I hope. What they say publicly is often different than what happens behind closed 'negotiating' doors. Even a job well done comes to an end sooner or later.
*just had a flashback to the time he was asked to host some awards night and he wanted a large sum of money. He did not get it BTW. *

The Today Show reported this morning that he has officially joined Channel Nine.
Probably makes sense - it's fitting that he ends with Nine I think... Although Ten was good to him, they never really made good use of Bert in primetime.
I wonder what vehicle they have lined up for him? Obviously the Logies... and of course there's that vital 5.30pm slot. Wasn't there a love-match game show in the works? |

Sam will probably use Bert to anchor all of those nostalgia specials and counting down specials, which are rating their pants off - it's the hottest genre on TV at the moment both here and in the UK.
Plus, Nine want to re-establish themselves in 2006 by emphasising their star system again, and playing up the 50 years of TV. I'm betting Bert will be in the centre of that campaign. |

On the positive side Polaris if there's more Bert there'll be less Eddie Everywhere
Or will there?
Maybe they'll do a double act for all those shows Rockchick is talkin' ' bout.
Ok by me ... More time for reading books or walking in the open air or ....um....

Perhaps there gonna have a Dancing with the Stars spin off ...”Dancing with Old Farts”. You must have had at least one hip replacement to qualify. Perhaps a resurrected "Star Search" given the popularity if Idol. I can’t imagine dear old Bert replacing Ray or doing anything else serious after so long in the infomercial business. But Ray and Bert do have something in common. The mirror that makes their hair look real and the drugs that make them believe it! |

The first thing I would do is ban each and every 'reality' show. they are all a waste of space within the fabric of the multiverse. I would put more sci-fi on, less adverts in the movies, ban Rove from ever making another show (if only for having anything to do with Skithouse), get rid of that excrement Merrick and Rosso (I dunno what happened to them, as they were fantastic on 9). Buy the rights of Gilmore Girls and Smallville from 9. |

The main problem is that almost everything is a repeat- why can't they just play the entire season of SVU week to week & then give us 10 million repeats over summer. I used to hate the non-ratings period with a passion but now i can hardly tell the difference between it & normal programming. I believe there was a period of almost 2 months in between new episodes of the Simpsons at one point. 10 should just play an entire series in order & then try out some new series instead of stretching one season of an established weekly show over about 10 months. But they should stick to US dramas b/c Australian drama is usually not done well as it is always a poor attempt to emulate the US version. If ppl want to do Aussie drama they should use storylines that are realistic to this country & Australian issues then ppl might watch. Why would you watch a such an Aussie attempted US style drama when the originals are so much better. |

I actually look forward to non ratings period, cos it seems the shows improve. If new stuff is pointless why play it. Repeats are probably cheaper anyway. |

With wide screen TV it looks like it is in the centre already, coz they move it so far in from the edge so it still shows on 4x3 TV's! |

Since Bert's gone, Rove should host a revamped GMA after some 2 or 3-hour morning news program. Then, some comedy show should replace Rove or he could have a revamped Rove Live at that time. |

Bring back JERRY SPRINGER!!! (I don't watch, and frankly, the only episode I watched was pretty stupid but it'll make an entertaining timeslot filler.) |

Why does every woman who goes on Jerry feel the need to show her boobs?
I've probably seen it a dozen or so times...and every time I have seen a woman ripping her own top off...it doesn't seem to matter what the topic is.."cheating boyfriends", "people marrying their cousins", "people who like to lick jello off of fat people"....any subject ...the women all take their tops off
I've never understood that. |

I think you'll find Jerry Springer works the same as reality TV - you get a cash bonus for certain behaviours. For instance, the producers might tell you you'll get $2000 if you show your boobs, $1000 if you throw a chair at someone etc...
I would not like to see Jerry back on our screens, simply because holidays are starting, and that is NOT appropriate TV for kiddies to watch. Hell, in my opinion, its not appropriate TV full stop. |

From Monday December 19th, Ten's weeknightly schedule will have the following changes...
6.30pm Sabrina the Teenage Witch (New to Ten) 7.00pm Oliver's Twist (Repeat)
And for those desperate for their fix of Seinfeld, Ten will air an episode of Seinfeld (The Race) at 11.50pm on Saturday 24th December, probably to fill a timeslot before the late night Christmas programmes begin.
For Sex and the City fans, Ten will make some use of their rights to the show by airing a 5 episode marathon from 8.30pm on Friday 23rd December. Episodes include: Secret Sex, The Power of Female Sex, The Monogamists, Three's A Crowd and The Turtle and the Hare. The marathon will run for 2 1/2 hours. |

shhhhhh sabrinafan don't tell anyone ...i watch too if I'm around (or sometimes tape it to watch at night instead of the news which just depresses the heck out of me and frankly not what I need after a day at work)...it's funny looking out for all the has been actors on their way down or up and coming actors on their way up (eg I've noticed at least 2 of the sex in the city gals) |

They played the animated christmas special of The Nanny last year one Saturday at around 3pm, and it wasn't very good. Way too cheesy, and aimed directly at a younger audience. However if you have an hour to kill during the day, you can't go wrong with "Oy To The World" as it is rather amusing. I can't tell if Ten'll be playing it this year though.
No, Ten will not air The Simpsons Christmas Marathon this year. However, Ten will air the following Christmas themed episodes this week...
Wednesday 7.30pm - Tis The Fifteenth Season Thursday 6.00pm - Miracle on Evergreen Terrace Friday 6.00pm - Grift of the Magi Friday 7.30pm - Homer vs Dignity Saturday 5.30pm - No Simpsons due to rerun of the World Vision documentary 'An Australian Idol In Africa', which probably attracted high ratings in its 3pm slot a few weeks back. |

So.. just to confirm, that means both House episodes, and both Medium episodes are definitely repeats?? the new eps don't start until next week don't they? Sorry, the guide(s) have been confusing me. |

Repeats this week, new episodes next week, yes. Ten's just airing the previous season's finales beforehand. Which I think is good, particularly for The O.C. which hasn't aired in around 7 months. |

Hey guys,
Ten is expected to unveil its official 2006 relaunch in the next 24 hours, most likely tonight (Sunday). Not sure of the exact details.
By the way, great marketing idea by Ten today by including new episodes of House, Supernatural and Everybody Hates Chris on DVD in News Limited papers today. EHC looks terrific. |

Yes, Expect the Networks that air Supernatural and Everybody hates Chris in the US are infact Merging, it's true. The WB and UPN Netowrks are joining Forces to become the CW Network. With 7th Heaven Cancelled and Charmed looking like ending, there's no doubt we would have a stronger Fifth TV Network come Fall 2006 in the US. |

I saw that tonight on ten thing. At first I thought it was some infommercial or an ad or something because I just missed the beginning of it. I noticed that after Smallville cut to a commercial break it would should an image of channel 10 people. I was a bit weirded out at first when I saw Boyd in a suit just staring. |

Seven's (sev.ASX:Quote,News) hit US program Lost last night drew an average audience of 2.12 million viewers, making a clear statement to other networks of their intention to secure viewers before the official start to the ratings year.
Lost, a series about a group of castaways stranded on a Hawaiian island, peaked at 2.26 million viewers.
The launch of the second series was up against Nine's (pbl.ASX:Quote,News) Midsomer Murders, Ten's (ten.ASX:Quote,News) repeat of Medium, ABC's Cutting It and Remote Area Nurse on SBS.
Networks will officially go to battle when ratings season commences on Sunday, February 12.
Seven has made no secret of its desire to cement its claim on primetime slots before the competitive period.
"Our strategy is one of building our primetime with key programs in the lead-up to the beginning of the television year," a Seven spokesman said.
"We have Desperate Housewives the breakout number one program of 2005 back next week and look forward to our primetime coverage of the Olympic Winter Games from 11 February."
On Wednesday, Seven's Prison Break made it's Australian debut, grabbing an average audience of 1.94 million viewers.
Despite these ratings victories, Seven weren't keen to make any forecasts.
"We're anticipating a tough and competitive year," the spokesman added.
"We are just focusing on who we are and what were doing. It's early days yet."
With new seasons of House, Medium and Law and Order, plus Australian series The Biggest Loser, Ten says it is confident going into ratings.
"We have had one of our strongest summers ever and the strongest line-up going into survey period," a Ten spokeswoman said.
Nine says it was not unnerved by Seven's recent ratings triumphs, arguing that new local shows including Missing Persons Unit and Clever, and its coverage of the Commonwealth Games in March, would maintain the networks top ratings position.
"As Australia's number one network we're confident our schedule of many fresh and new local shows," a Nine spokesperson said.
"Healthy audience numbers attracted to quality programming only makes for a stronger television market - and there remains no advertising medium that can rival the power of free-to-air TV."

Maybe members would return faster to correct posts if the 'reply notice' emails were activated? . .at least for Private Messages.. . when somebody has made a mistake it could take ages for them to return . .but a reply notice for PM's could alert them sooner. . .this is the only board I have ever seen that does not do it. . is there a reason?. . |

I think 9 are in denial about the amount of f#ckups they have managed to put forward in such a short amount of time 10 never seem concerned about ratings |

The new look is heaps good. They changed their entire look except the logo, and the new "You're Back Watching XXXXXX" is also very nicely designed. Well done Ten, and I love the new song in the promo, plus the people in it. |

Ten have a specific demographic they target...and they do pretty well with that demographic ...they get much more loyalty than the other commercials...which means they do ok bringing the $$ in 'cos they can show that they have a higher % of certain demographic and the advertisers will pay to have access to that demographic...so they probably don't need to worry so much about their ratings and yeah I agree Gizmo it does seem obvious to me...but neither of us is in the target demographic for ten any more |

Dunno but the 'comedians' doing it were incredibly unfunny. I don't mind the idea but trying to make it a comedy bit is a mistake, just make it matter of fact. |

Was it just me, or in that interview they supposedly had over the phone with the guy from supernatural sound a lot like Modigliana (the cat) from the Ferals? It was a little strange and lame, but at least it was sort of funny, more interesting than "In Summer" I like the promo images though, where a character from a show poses all dressed up. Like Boyd, Gretel, etc. Works well. |

What do you think of Ten's new ident? Speak your mind here. And does anyone know what the song is they're using? IMO, I absolutely love it, and it's well made They even upgraded their consumer info with the new logos used for ratings (and I think Nine did too). |

I love the new Ten promos however I wish they kept the watermark where it was before. And I hope they don't do what Seven often does with their shows and reformat the closing credits to fit a giant advertisement on the top of the screen. That's really annoying. I just feel that it affects the integrity of the TV show. |

The good thing about Ten's watermark is that it mixes perfectly with the "you're back on xxxxx" logo. Seven and Nine just can't seem to do that. |

And squeezing them to unreadable proportions does? Seven are doing the right thing by having generic credits, the producers made their credits with this in mind which is why every god dammed US show has plain credits on a black background. Its they way of the future, the next best thing to not having them at all. |

Weight watchers boost Ten John Lehmann April 29, 2006 A TV show about losing fat has turned the Ten Network into a ratings heavyweight, with the least popular commercial network set to win its first week of ratings in 12 years. Thanks to The Biggest Loser finale on Thursday night, which pulled in 2.2million viewers, Ten held a handy ratings lead over the Seven and Nine networks going into Friday and Saturday nights. Not since the week of August 21-27, 1994, when Ten hosted the Commonwealth Games from Canada, has the network won a ratings week. "I don't think there's any way Ten can lose it - they're too far in front," Steve Allen, managing director of media agency Fusion Strategy, said yesterday. He said Ten, which also pulled in strong audiences this week with the launch of the Big Brother reality show, had cut into Seven's audiences for hit programs such as island survivor drama Lost. "Seven's seemingly invincible line-up is perhaps not as resilient as first thought," Mr Allen said. Lost attracted 1.16million viewers on Thursday, down from the 1.47million who watched in the last week of ratings before Easter. But Peter Horgan, executive director of trading at advertising buyer OMD Australia, said it was too early to suggest Seven's strong performance this year was starting to weaken. "There does seem to be some mild audience attrition, but they've got great depth (in programming)," he said. Ten has become Australia's most profitable network in recent years with a low-cost business model that targets the advertiser-friendly 16- to 39-year-old demographic. But it usually finishes third in overall audience numbers. So far this week, it has recorded a 29 per cent share of audiences, compared with Seven on 27.1 and Nine on 26.3. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,18964912-7582,00.html |

It's a great result for Ten. They won a few weeks in Adelaide in previous years (thanks to Showdowns, etc), but never nationally. Good on them |

What I find surprising is ten hasn't won a week for so long.
I mean Australian Idol & BB have done huge ratings in the past you would have thought a win here and there. |

Seriously Historic Win For Network Ten Ten boss Grant Blackley is the happiest man in TV this week A week of firsts in probably the closest week's competition in TV for years with only 0.4% of a rating point separating first (Ten) from third (Nine). Ten's win was its first week in the official TV ratings in almost 12 years last week, thanks to the finale of The Biggest Loser, the start of Big Brother and the continuing strong viewer interest in Thank God You're Here on Wednesday nights. The last time Ten won a week was week one of the Commonwealth games in 1994, which Ten broadcast from Canada. It was also the first time since then that Ten had won three nights in a week, and of course it was also Ten's first win since Oztam ratings started in 2001. It was also the first time the Nine Network had finished third in Oztam ratings. The numbers: Ten won with a share of 27.3%, to 27.1 for Seven, with Nine third on 26.9%. Interestingly Ten only won one market: Adelaide. It finished second in Sydney between Seven and Nine which tied in first spot; second in Melbourne behind Nine, third in Brisbane behind Nine in first spot and second in Perth behind Seven, with Nine third. Perth once again proved pivotal: Seven won the week 30.1% to 28.1% for Ten and just 22.7% for Nine: that low third pushed Nine into third spot after Ten won big on Saturday night with the AFL and Seven had a big win Friday night, despite the AFL in Perth on Nine. Ten took the lead after a strong Thursday night after the TBL finale and held it despite weak nights Friday and Saturday which were both won by Nine. Nine will be frustrated: it finished the week well, had a solid performance on other nights, did well in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, but still finished third. Nine will trumpet the fact that it 'won the East Coast' and ignore the performance by affiliates in Adelaide and Perth. Seven will be happier than Nine: it did well everywhere without a win but had enough in the tank to edge out Nine which had the runs on the board in Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven just got better numbers from many of its programs, especially in Perth, while Dancing With The Stars was the decisive force on Tuesday night and that kept Seven in the hunt for the rest of the week. Seven News finished the week strongly, especially in Sydney and the question now is whether the revival in Nine News, especially in Melbourne, will finish with the ending of school holidays around the country. Watch the early evening audiences for Bert's Family Feud and its lead-in Antiques Roadshow from midweek: Both programs seem to do better Monday and Tuesday before fading. Ten's week means a lot in terms of future ad revenues and Nine will be the one to feel the hurt. But this week it's back to regular transmission: After two 'stunt' events: the launch of BB and the ending of TBL, Ten faces a return to third place. The behind the scenes 'perve' episode of TBL shows tonight(Sunday) after Big Brother and that will be a moderately good night: but Seven and Nine will battle the rest of the week. Ten had a high six programs in the top 20 most watched list, with TBL's final episode number one, just in front of Seven's Dancing With The Stars. Seven had seven progams in the top 20, as did Nine, hence Nine's frustration at being pipped for second. But in the top ten, Ten had five programs, Seven three and Nine two, and that's why they finished in that order over the week: Nine’s highest ranked program was the Sunday evening 6 pm News. It’s a long time to Saturday in a week in TV land if your best performed program is so early in the week.
Well Done Ten! |

I saw the most stupid article I've ever seen in my life today in The Age. Seven came second the week Ten won ratings correct? Anyways, this article states that Seven is the biggest loser and that it will start losing from now on just because it lost a week to Ten, when I might add, Nine came third. |

The Age was right because Seven came third in Melbourne and was the biggest loser of the week as the audience of many of its show had fallen that week such as "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost", which didn’t even make the Melbourne top 20. |

Yes, but it is only one week. Why is everyone judging them so harshly? Nine and Ten have lost practically every week with the exception of the Com games. |

Hello, my name is Mark Boyle and I am a very passionate Formula One fan from Western Australia. I am sick of the way Network TEN Australia treats F1 in this country. Channel Ten have the exclusive Australian live TV rights to all rounds of the 2006-2010 F1 World Championship. This includes the rights to telecast Practice and Qualifying sessions and the rights to telecast highlights. In 2005 Practice and Qualifying was only shown for the Australian GP and the only races that were shown live were the Chinese (in the eastern states only), Australian (I think it was delayed in some states because Australia were in daylight saving time and the incompetent Channel Ten staff couldn’t work out the time difference), Brazilian Canadian and US GP's. I have tried writing letters, emails and ringing them to make a complaint and I am not the only person who has done this. There are a lot of people who are sick of the way F1 and its fans are treated in this country and they have also done this but they just don’t care. F1 is one of the most watched sports on the planet. In 2005 the Canadian GP was the third most watched sporting event on the planet in that year. Australia is one of only a few countries (Only including the countries that have F1 TV coverage) that don't get to watch Qualifying and live races (Correct me if I’m wrong). Is this fair? No it isn’t! If Channel Ten are not willing to show Qualifying and live races, why do they have the exclusive live rights? This is another thing that really annoys me about Channel Ten. If they are not willing to show Qualifying and live races, they should stop being so greedy and selfish and share the rights with Foxtel. Channel Ten are 1.Incompetent 2.Lazy 3.Selfish 4.greedy 5.Arrogant 6.Liars Channel Ten dose nothing for Motor Sport in this country. Just because most Motor Sport in this country is on Channel Ten that doesn’t mean they care about it and it doesn’t mean they do a good job. There TV coverage for most of there Motor Sport is very bad especially when you consider they are our “home of Motor Sport”. Instead of improving there TV coverage, there’re TV coverage has got worse every year. I have got some examples. 1. They never have a single add to say when F1 or any other Motor Racing series will be shown so a lot of people don’t know when its on TV. 2. In 2005 they would give a maximum of 5 hours (If the time was needed) every Sunday afternoon to show Motor Racing. In 2006 they will be cutting 1 hour off and now only giving a maximum of 4 hours every Sunday afternoon. 3. There TV coverage of Champcars is delayed by 24 hours or more. It is shown at 2:00am on a Tueday morning. 4. Moto GP is shown at 11:30pm or later (12:00am or later because it never starts on the advertised time). 5. A1GP is shown at 11:30pm or later (12:00am or later because it never starts on the advertised time). 6. Saturday V8 Supercar races are show at 12:00am or later and this is V8 Supercars! 7. In 2005 they have lost the rights to World Superbikes (I think they still have the rights but they just choose not to show it), Australian Superbikes, Aussie Racing Cars, V8 Utes, Performace cars and Lotus trophy. 8. They have a Motor Racing show called RPM wich runs for 90 minuets but they have cut 30 minuets of and it now only lasts 1 hour. 9. They also had another Motor Sport show called "Trackside". On this program they would show V8 Supercar support races (V8 Supercar delelopment series, Carrera Cup, Aussie Racing Cars, V8 Utes, Performace cars and Lotus trophy. They have dropped this show in 2006. 10. In 2007 they will lose the rights to even more Motor Racing. They will lose the rights to V8 Supercars which means they will probably also loose the rights to Carrera Cup, V8 Supercar Development Series and Champcars. They can no longer call themselves “home of Motor Sport” in 2007 as they will only have the rights for 5 Motor Racing series (Australian Rally, World Rally, Moto GP, A1GP and F1). All or most of the Motor Racing serries that they have lost the rights for will probably go to Channel 7. In 2007 they will probably become the new “home of Motor Sport”. They might be showing V8 Supercar Qualifying and every race live, there might also be night race next year wich will be shown in prime time. There will also be a new 30 minuet show for V8 Supercars. Here is a list of some of the stupid things they do with their Motor Racing TV coverage 11. The Australian Grand Prix is usually shown live every year. I am not sure about the other states, but in 2005 the race was delayed for 1 hour. There was no reason to do this. 12. There’re TV coverage for the Japanese GP has always been bad as it is on at the same time as Bathurst. There’re TV coverage of the 2005 race was the worst it has ever been. There’re F1 telecasts usually runs for 2 hours and 30 minuets. They would usually only last 2 hours for the Japanese GP (and Chinese GP) in previous years but in 2005 it only lasted 1 hour and 30 minuets with only 2/3 of the race being shown. They had a 15 minuet preview and when they when the race they would cut out large amounts of the race making it very hard to follow. This was then followed by a quick review and a shot at the drivers celebrating. The thing that really annoyed me was they could have shown a reply of the full race at 10:30pm but they didn’t. There was no reason why they couldn’t do this. 13. The US GP (2006) will be delayed by 1 hour in every state and Moto GP will be shown at 12:00am in the eastern states and 12:30am in WA. They usually show Moto GP at 11:30 wich is already bad. They could show it at 10:30pm! WA 6:00pm - 6:30pm The Simpsons 6:30pm - 8:30pm Big Brother 8:30pm - 9:30pm Law & Order 9:30pm - 10:30pm Law & Order 10:30pm - 11:30pm The Office 11:30pm - 12:30am Seindfeld 12:30am - 1:45am Moto GP 1:45am - 4:00am Formula 1 4:00am - 6:00am Moto GP SA 11:30pm - 3:15am Moto GP 3:45am - 5:30am F1 Eastern states 12:00am - 3:45am Moto GP 3:45am - 6:00am F1 They are so stupid! 12:45am is live not 1:45am (WA time) The 2005 Australian GP was delayed in at least WA (and maybe other states too). There is only one reason for this. They are very incompetent. Yes I know everyone makes mistakes but NOBODY makes as many mistakes as Channel Ten! They are always making stupid mistakes. They can't even work out time differnce between countries or states. If they are that stupid they could go to the official F1 website! |

Maybe whe you become a TV programmer, then you can start demanding what gets shown when....
Maybe a better option would be convincing Ten to on-sell qualifying and practise rounds to Fox Sports? |

Practice is shown in alot of countries but I am not too bothered if Channel Ten don't show it. I was just saying what they don't show. I would watch it if it was on but I am happy to use the live timming for Practice. Why don't you try reading it next time! Dose BB (Your user name)? mean Big Brother. If it dose F1 Practice is a million times better than watching a bunch of losers doing nothing in a house for mounths! Get a life!! |

Maybe whe you become a TV programmer, then you can start demanding what gets shown when....
Maybe a better option would be convincing Ten to on-sell qualifying and practise rounds to Fox Sports?
They are too selfish and greedy!! |

The Canadian race is live into Adelaide I think. It starts at 2:15, and 2:45 in the eastern states.
I know. What is your point? I was talking about the US GP being delayed becasue Channel Loser (10) are incompetent
Quoted from MAB
13. The US GP (2006) will be delayed by 1 hour in every state and Moto GP will be shown at 12:00am in the eastern states and 12:30am in WA. They usually show Moto GP at 11:30 wich is already bad. They could show it at 10:30pm!
WA 6:00pm - 6:30pm The Simpsons 6:30pm - 8:30pm Big Brother 8:30pm - 9:30pm Law & Order 9:30pm - 10:30pm Law & Order 10:30pm - 11:30pm The Office 11:30pm - 12:30am Seindfeld 12:30am - 1:45am Moto GP 1:45am - 4:00am Formula 1 4:00am - 6:00am Moto GP
SA 11:30pm - 3:15am Moto GP 3:45am - 5:30am F1
Eastern states 12:00am - 3:45am Moto GP 3:45am - 6:00am F1
They are so stupid! 12:45am is live not 1:45am (WA time)
The 2005 Australian GP was delayed in at least WA (and maybe other states too). There is only one reason for this. They are very incompetent. Yes I know everyone makes mistakes but NOBODY makes as many mistakes as Channel Ten! They are always making stupid mistakes. They can't even work out time differnce between countries or states. If they are that stupid they could go to the official F1 website!

I'd rather watch The Office than the Moto GP. I have yet to come across anyone who watches it anyway.
Why don't you go to Seven or Nine to make them pick up the rights? Lets see if they can do better than Ten. |

The Office is a stupid boring show. Chanel 9 would do a crap job, Channel 10 do a crap job but I think Channel 7 would do a very good job. I think they might be the new and improved "home of Motor Sport" very soon. They have got the V8 Supercar TV rights for next year and they might be showing live (Probably AEST only) Qualifying, and 2 or 3 races. They might be night races that they plan on showing live in prime time. They have also got a new V8 Supercar show next year. Most will last 30 minuets and 4 will last 1 hour. By getting the V8 Supercar TV rights they will also get the Champcar TV rights as both Champcars and V8's race at the Indy 300. They will probably get the rights to up to 6 different V8 Support series. They have said having both V8's and AFL will not be a problem because they will work it out without any problems. Channel Ten didn't bother to do that and they show the Saturday races late at night. When you consider Channel 10 are always calling themselves "your home of Motor Sport" and they do things like they have done that is very bad. If 7 or 9 did the things that 10 did it wouldn't be as bad because they are not the "home of Motor Sport"! Channel 10 couldn't care less about Motor Sport! They are an absolute joke. |

Ooohh touchy! No BB does not mean big brother, dont watch it - and I got a life, thats why I dont watch sport on TV Your petition says you want all practice shown, it currently isn't, where did I miss read it? Qualifying is only the fastest practice round after all. |

I was only saying get a life if you watched Big Brother. No it dosn't say I want all practice shown! It says I want Practice shown for the Australian GP. (It already is but I wanted to make sure it is in the future too) Qualifying isn't Practice. It is a way to decide who starts where for the race. Everyone knows that. |

I have good reasons to be rude and insulting to Channel Ten. Like I said before. Channel Ten are 1.Incompetent 2.Lazy 3.Selfish 4.greedy 5.Arrogant 6.Liars I don't see why you have to be a F1 fan to sign. You could sign just to help me. If someone here had a petition I would be hapy to sign. |

no, you were rude and insulting to the people here. telling us to "get a life" just because we happen to like a different type of show than you. Telling people to "try reading it next time" its the tone, more than the words. |

You seem to be too much of a rude bas1ard for any of us to go sign that petition of yours. Besides how much sport do we need to put up with on free-to-air?! I’m keen on all the must watch stuff but qualifying / practice crap – no thanks!! |

Sorry but I get very anoyed when I talk about this. The US GP is meant to be shown live. It is live every year, at the end of the Canadian GP telecast Leigh Diffey said that it live and as he said this it said it would be live on the TV. Today I rang Channel Ten to tell them they had made a mistake in their TV schedule but they didn't admit to there mistake and they just made stupid excuses just like they always do. They said "we are trying to show it as close to live as posible" and "we have other comitments". What a load of crap! There is no reason why they can't show it live! I wouldn't of rand them if I wasn't 110% sure.
This is how the schedule looks Perth 11:30pm - 12:30am Seinfeld 12:30pm - 1:45am Moto GP (Usually shown at 11:30pm and Moto GP runs for 3 hours 45 in every state exept WA for this round) 1:45am - 4:00am F1 (Delayed 1 hour) 4:00am - 6:00am Moto GP
Adelaide 11:30pm - 3:15am Moto GP (Moto GP has never run for this long in any state, it only runs for 3 hours) 3:15am - 5:30am F1 (Delayed 1 hour)
Sydney, Brisbane and Melboune (Usually shown at 11:30pm) 11:30pm - 12:00am Seindfeld 12:00pm - 3:45am Moto GP 3:45am - 6:00am F1 (Delayed 1 hour)
You would probably have to follow Motor RAcing to understand how stupid it really is.
This is how the schedule should look Perth 11:30pm - 12:45am Moto GP 12:45am - 3:00am F1 Live 3:00am - 5:00am Moto GP
Adelaide 11:30pm - 2:15am Moto GP 2:15am - 4:30am F1 Live
Sydney, Brisbane and Melboune 11:30pm - 2:45am Moto GP 2:45am - 5:00am F1 Live
I am not waiting to 1:45am (1 hour delayed) to watch the US GP just because they are too incometent to work out the time diffrerence between Indy and Australia. I have rang them a few times before to make complaints but this was the first time I was rude to them. I am ringing them again to make a complaint about the way they handled my complaint. I will also tell them about my letter to FOM, my petition and my new website I have started. They really anoy me! Idiot. The least they could do is admit to their mistake.
I am not a rude person. |

F1 is one of the most watched sports on the planet. The Canadian GP was the third most watched sporting of 2005. Australia is one of only a few countries (Only including the countries that have F1 TV coverage) that don't get to watch Qualifying and live races. Practice is also shown in alot of countries but I am not too bothered if Channel Ten don't show it. I was just saying what they don't show. I would watch it if it was on but I am happy to use the live timming for Practice. Alot of people in Australia have been asking for Qualifying to be show but Channel Ten don't care. If Channel Ten are not willing to show Qualifying and live races, why do they have the exclusive live rights? This is another thing that really annoys me about Channel Ten. If they are not willing to show Qualifying and live races, they should stop being so greedy and selfish and share the rights with Foxtel. |

It is quite a common ploy for TV stations to buy rights and either not use them, or warehouse parts of what they get. It stops others using it. As for giving it to foxtel, that would really severely limit the audience who could watch it. Dont get me wrong, Pay TV should have all sport as far as I am concerned, then I would never have to avoid it on the box! Cricket is a good example of how pay TV is ruining a sport. Most of todays kids are not seeing cricket on the box, they dont have hero's on the box all summer like they did when I was a kid. When I was growing up there fist fights over who was better "Dennis Lillee" or "Thomo", you ask the average school kid who their favorite fast bowlers is now, and they are more likely to say "whats that" rather than Brett Lee, because its years since cricket was well exposed on free TV. In reality the lack of exposure means kids dont want to go out and play cricket. Oh and by the way, I dont find you rude or arogant, just passionate for your chosen sport, nothing wrong with that, everyone needs something to get their fires going!. And "Qualifying" is just the media moguls way of hyping up the last part of practice. Once upon a time "qualification" was by fastest lap during all practice, (still is in the minor leagues), not the fastest lap in the laps few hours of practice. |

Thats not the point. You obviosly have no idea and you obviosly haven't been reading my posts. It is in the US so even if it is shown live it is very late. If if it was shown live late at night I wouldn't be bothered becasue it is live and there would be nothing they can do about it but 1:45 (3:15 in SA and 3:30 in the eastern states) is rediculous. I also like watching it live because I can use the live timing on the internet. A live F1 race or any Motor Race on Channel Ten is very rare. When they have a chance they still delay it because they are too incompetent that they can't work out the time difference and when they are told they can't admit to there mistake and fix the problem. They are still telling everybody it is live. |

Exactly. I am a very passionate F1 fan, I speak my mind and I don't take crap from anyone so dose anyone here think I am going to take there crap? NO! I have started a petition, written letters and emails to both FOM (Formula One Managemnet) and Channel Ten (I am sending my letter to FOM out next week). I have now started an anti-Channel Ten webite. I will not give up my fight against Channel Ten. I will do everything possible. |

Think your self lucky that you get to watch the sport you love on free to air tv. I love ten pin bowling and being a first yr aprentice i can't afford austar or foxtel. I would give anything to have bowling on free to air tv, it wouldn't matter how much it was delayed or if it was on at 3:30am. |

I rang Channel Ten on Monday to make a complaint about the US GP being dealyed by 1 hour because they were to stupid to work out the time difference between Indy and Australia. As usual they didn't admit to there mistake and they just made stupid excuses. They have now fixed the problem. The US GP will now be shown live. I don't think it was because she couldn't admit to there mistake. I think the person I was talking to was just stupid and had no idea what she was talking about. |

I think so.
On a related note, Network TEN will be opening it's new studio in early 2007 in the Adelaide CBD, moving out of North Adelaide to the city.
Ironically, it's near my (soon-to-be-old) school. I will be there for the opening! |

Yup, TEN's the only network I watch. And from time to time I commit a really wicked sin and tune into Seven for Desperate Housewives. |

The idea was so we had a place to post news about each channel and make it easier to find - it was Daras Idea originally - norman said he would make it but then didn't cause he knew the person that did would get blasted for making the post ( which happened from Paula). My keyboard is falling silent this is my last post! |

From enews:
Ten to target broader audience in 2007 Author: eNews staff and agencies | Oct 19, 2006, 10:38
Ten's Grant Blackley is hoping for slightly older viewers next year In all the chat about the brave new and limited world of the Australian media scene yesterday the Ten Network revealed that 2005-06 had been a bad year, with earnings down sharply on lower sales.
The lower profit showed EBITDA down 27.6% to $229.1 million and a sales margin of 30 per cent for the year (but around 27 per cent for the last half. That made Ten the most profitable Network on a margin basis, but Seven earned more on the same basis, $256 million) and Nine less, $215.5 million.
Sales fell 8.9 per cent to $764.6 million.
But the big story was the major change in approach to its ratings pitch next year.
In fact it could be as significant as its move to concentrate on the 16 to 39 age group about six years ago, if the advertising industry listens.
Falloon and Ten management revealed a new ratings strategy yesterday to concentrate on the 18 to 49 age group as a primary focus (while still targeting the 16 to 39 group which it has been doing for the past six years).
The 18 to 49 is the favoured demographic for US Networks (including Cable) and advertisers and Ten's new Fox deal (which was with Seven) will see it picking up a number of new programs in this demographic.
That will put Ten into a direct head to head battle with Nine and Seven in a demographic that accounts for 75 per cent of ad dollars spent in the major metro markets in Australia.
Nine and Seven target the 25 to 54 group which accounts for a bit more, around 80 per cent.
Ten says it has 'saturated' the 16 to 39 demographic and wants to 'broaden its approach. That's another way of saying that Ten realises there’s not much new revenue growth left in the 16 to 39 group: that it will be much harder to rebuild share and margins from the depressed levels of 2006 if it stays with the kiddiewinks and their older brothers and sisters.
Two years ago Ten tried to make the 25 to 54 group a secondary focus for 2005 but failed. Remember the X Factor? Big Brother was below par and Australian Idol bombed at the end of last year.
That failure cost the network dearly in terms of lost sales and lower ad spend this year (which was reflected in the poor revenue and earnings figures.)
By going for a much bigger pool of ad spend; Ten believes it can drive revenue and earnings faster, especially with its well-known cost controls.
Ten's costs in the 2006 year were originally forecast to rise five per cent, then cut to four per cent and ended up just 2.3 per cent, or around an extra $12 million in a total expenses figure of $641 million.
Besides the Fox output deal, it has been the success of programs like Thank God You're Here (returning next year for two series) which has skewed to a much broader demographic, which has convinced Ten to widen its target audience.
Ten CEO, Grant Blackley says the network started working this approach earlier in the year with some signals to the ad market but will go for the bigger push in rate negotiations that are now starting.
In doing this Ten will be saying to advertisers that growth in audience this year (Ten claims to be leading in the 18 to 49 group in zone 1 commercial share. That’s from 6 pm to 10.30 pm) should be rewarded with higher rates.
Seven has already asked for a 9.5 per cent rise and says it will have a dynamic rate card this year (that means rates will rise and fall with audience changes for specific programs. Seven talked about such a card last year.
The Ten move though threatens the Nine Network most of all. It doesn't have the program strength that Seven has, especially in programs appealing to this demographic. Nor does it have a strong group of US sourced programs now or coming in 2007.
Coupled with the ownership shuffle and the added debt, plus the costs of going digital and moving studios and facilities in Sydney and Melbourne in the next couple of years, Nine will be under added pressure to meet the Ten challenge and reclaim ground from Seven.
With the same management in place (from John Alexander as Executive chairman of PBL media) to Eddie McGuire and his management team at Nine, the Network will have to find some other source of inspiration or leadership to get back on par with Seven next year and to fight off Ten.
Ten shares rose all day to end 15c higher at $3.33 on 3.33 million shares.
First the dancng show now this......Watch out Norman, they'll be showing the lawn bowls soon |

Very interesting and I think a good idea from the point of view of TEN.
If they ever really want to compete with SEVEN/NINE they need to target the older demos such as 25-54. |

They won't do that Dara. Neighbours they will never cancel unless the UK no longer wants it, House appeals to just about every demographic anyway and always wins its timeslot, Jericho might get canned because it isn't performing as well I think as Ten may have expected - it may pick up over time though and Big Brother has been confirmed for next year already (and Ten has a deal with Dreamworld that the House will stay until the end of 2009, so it could continue beyond next year) and Ten has nothing to replace it with (look at the flop that was Yasmin). |

TEN Network has all but struck a deal with FOX to show leading (series) shows, from america onto ten screens. For those that did know, The seven network had this deal for some years during the development stage, before they had acquired new series, like lost and desperate housewives.
This makes ten in the best position to increase its demographic.
Ten is holding a trade show of its previews of shows due to be released for next year in november stay tuned!!!!!
and also neighbours will never be axed because ten must forfill its obligations to show australian content on television (certain hours per week). |

Well next season has an episode with Whoppie Goldberg, so that should be a funny one.
Does anyone know what happened/is happening to the new show 'The Con.test', it was mentioned in the eNews article about Ten's second half line-up a few months ago, but since then I have heard nothing about it. |

Hi Guys looks like channel 10 has gone the way of CH:7 & CH:9 moving Sci-fi programs to god awful time slots or just to take it off air altogether with no warning, last night I was setting my self up nicely in my comfy lounge chair and a nice hot cuppa coffee to watch the latest episode of Battlestar Galactia. To my horror celebrity Poker!! WTF!!! Grabed the TV guide, yeap it was the right time for it to be on .... jumped on the net to check if this season was over, noo 6 episodes to go. Whats going on Ch:10? |

I am very glad that I was unable to watch BG then beacuse I may have got up and smashed some plates. I am also sick of it. I know we dont have a massive sci-fi/ paranormal cult following like the US but there is certainly enough of us out thier to warrent some shows even if it is at the 10:30 time slot which I dont mind so much. And to replace it with Poker! Dose anyone actually watch that c**p, the only 2 peeps I know who watch it are problem gamblers. I would sooner watch Hotdogs or Quizmainia and THAT should say something lol |

I know a certain poster here who will not be happy with this While I too would like sci-fi earlier it's not going to happen as the audience isn't big enough. All the Treks have been on late around 11pm or later and as long as they play them I'm happy. I do recall when Voyager first started it was on in prime time about 8.30pm I think. The X-Files was also on about that time for it's entire run. The 4400 was on early to start but then ten basically killed it by stuffing it around and you never knew when it was on. Great sig btw Shandrill |

But I told her that there were 6 episodes left in the 2nd series ... How do I know that? she asked .... the BSG web site I said ... with me saying that she hung up she was quite rude through the whole phone call |

Do the networks think we live without internet access and can't access episode guides!
I don't watch BSG but to take off quality sci-fi for poker is a joke. |

Only these days? Please, please, please channel TEN don't screen Stuart *&^%$#@ Little again. Tonight must be the 3,000,000,000th time I've seen it screened on TV and I am pretty sure 2,999,999,997 were on TEN. |

Yes, I was getting used to Monk and now it's gone yet again With the success of the comedy classics on 7 perhaps 10 could something similar with a 2 hour comedy block of Seinfeld,Raymond ,Becker etc following Monk. Who the heck wants to watch Stuart figgin Little or The Scorpion King? |

Two truly awful movies last night. Who the hell wants to watch Hugh Laurie act like just about the biggest sissy I've ever seen on TV, inviting a mouse into his home treating him like he's god's gift to mankind?! When I found out it was him who played House, I was in way over my head. |

The eBlah! clock seems abit screwy, but believe me my casio says 4pm EST. So here goes folks.
Well, here are my notes regarding Ten’s lineup for 2007, which is probably the first unveiling in print anywhere (I love the instant magic of the web!). Enjoy eBlah’ers..
OK if the theme of 2006 was taking risks (because it had to), Ten have decided to build upon the successes of this year and milk them for all they are worth, whilst forgetting the failures.
It now has its 3 "rocks" for the year – Biggest Loser (Feb-May) / Big Brother (May-Aug) / Idol (Aug-Nov). It has taken 6 years for Ten to build a whole year’s worth of schedule, but I think it has finally got there with this trifecta.
As a result, Ten’s theme for 2007 will be:
Event Sunday, Every Sunday
Tinkering with The Biggest Loser, Ten will now make a bigger deal about the Friday Night Weigh-In, moving it into the Sunday night timeslot and building it into a Big Brother Eviction-type event.
Big Brother will get the usual yearly makeover, and it’s steady as she goes for Idol. It’s too early to uncover any particular revamps for these two.
Aside from building Sunday as the place to be each week, Ten will be building upon the success it had with short-run observational shows this year. Along with Bondi Rescue and Honey We’re Killing The Kids, Ten will add:
Saving Babies With Kim Watkins An RPA-like observational series filmed at Sydney’s Royal Hospital for Women.
Teen Fat Camp A heart-wrenching, uplifting series about morbidly obese Australian teenagers who travel to the infamous US health bootcamp to help change their lives.
Jamie Oliver Three (yes, 3) new series from Jamie Oliver – At Home With Jamie Oliver, Return To School Dinners, Jamie’s Chefs: Cutting The Apron Strings.
A couple of new local risks will be thrown into 2007 too:
The Con.Test Originally scheduled to air this year, it will now be launched in February. Apparently you can win a fortune on this show without knowing much at all.
Celebrity Dog School Mix It’s Me Or The Dog with local Aussie celebrities and you get something entertaining, Ten hopes.
Returning Aussie shows include: Thank God You’re Here, Rove Live, Bondi Rescue, The Wedge and Neighbours. No mention at all of David Tench, Real Stories or Ronnie Johns.
Ten will also screen exclusive early-runs of Boytown, Kenny and it’s own drama production The Joanne Lees Story.
Joining House, L&O, NCIS, Medium, Supernatural, Jericho, The Simpsons and Futurama will be new International shows for next year including:
3 Pounds –new drama starring Stanley Tucci as a headstrong neurosurgeon (CBS Paramount).
Raines – drama starring Jeff Goldblum as an LAPD detective with the dubious gift of being able to have conversations with deceased crime victims (NBC Universal).
Rules of Engagement – the hotly-awaited new comedy created by comic Adam Sandler and starring Just Shoot Me!'s David Spade (CBS Paramount).
Ten will then get exclusive rights to all new FOX programming from July onwards.
For sport lovers, Ten will broadcast the 2007 World Cup Rugby (in HD), AFL (in HD), Formula One (for the first time in HD), MotoGP, the World and Australian Rally Championships, and RPM.
So in summary, in contrast to 2006, 2007 for Ten will be about enjoying the benefits of a few existing hits under their belt, and adding some like-genre programming to compliment the whole slate for throughout the year.
I still think Ten’s 6pm timeslot needs work-shopping. It should be the daily rock that springs the whole evening to new heights. But no word on that yet.
Anyway guys hope you’ve got something in there to look forward to. Thoughts?

Mmm some dodgy reality in there but some interesting shows as well.
The new shows with Jeff Goldblum & David Spade look like they may be worth giving a go.
Celebrity Dog School and Teen Fat Camp sound very dodgy.
I like Kim Watkins so hopefully her new show will do well. If it gets RPA like ratings TEN will be happy. |

Somehow I doubt 'Living With Fran' will screen in Australia (except of course during summer or late at night). The new programs listed to screen next year on Channel 10 do not look very good to me at all... I think that show 'Raines' is mid year show and has not screened in the US yet. |

Just further to my report on Ten's new primetime programming in 2007.
Ten have snatched a deal with America's CBS away from the Nine Network. This will see Dr Phil moving to Ten, as well as Dave Letterman and all 60 Minutes reports from the US edition. |

CBS date to be confirmed TSS, but in time for the relaunch of Ten's afternoon lineup in 2007 (prob late Jan/early Feb)..
The FOX deal entitles Ten to all new shows from FOX from July onwards, which is just in time for the new Fall season in the States.. |

Nine loses Dr Phil, US 60 Minutes, LettermanNETWORK Ten has snatched from its Nine Network rival the rights to popular US talk show host Dr Phil plus exclusive use of American 60 Minutes stories. In a bold bid to dominate local daytime television, Ten announced it had acquired Dr Phil and would screen him back-to-back with Oprah on weekdays from next year. The network said it hoped these acquisitions, along with programs like Judge Judy and 9am With David and Kim, would boost Ten to No.1 in day-time television. "Dr Phil will be coming to Ten – Nine's top rating daytime show," Ten's chief executive officer Grant Blackley said today. "With Oprah and Dr Phil, Ten now has the two most popular daytime Australian television shows ... we have a winning top position." Signing a deal with America's CBS to become its Australian affiliate, gives Ten exclusive rights to all 60 Minutes stories from the US. Nine will only retain the 60 Minutes brand. CBS also distribute Dr Phil and the Late Show With David Letterman, which will screen on Ten next year. "We want a more ... reliable supply of international content and to widen our domestic portfolio," Blackley said. The announcements were made at a 2007 program launch at Sydney's State Theatre tonight. The launch included live performances from Australian Idol finalists Jessica Mauboy and Damien Leith, as well as interviews with Wallabies captain George Gregan, Formula One driver Mark Webber and Sydney Swans player Nick Davis. Tripping Over star Abe Forsythe also attended and Ten announced a second series of the program would go into production. From abroad, Ten has secured hospital drama series 3 Pounds, crime drama Raines – starring Jeff Goldblum – and Rules of Engagement, created by comedian Adam Sandler. Locally, a second series of Australia's Biggest Loser recently began production and Big Brother, Australian Idol, plus top-rating theatre sports-based program, Thank God You're Here, will return in 2007. Ten has also secured the rights to screen the 2007 Rugby World Cup, which will kick off in France on September 7. Highly anticipated telemovie The Joanne Lees Story, about the murder of her British backpacker boyfriend Peter Falconio, will broadcast in 2007. "Next year has more firepower then ever before," said Ten's chief programming officer David Mott. "(It will be) a watershed year for the Ten Network in 2007. We have what we believe are some of the most compelling brands on television." Source: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,20764107-2,00.html?from=public_rss |

With Dr.Phil, I think TEN will deffinetely win daytime TV (how is '9am' going against 'Mornings?'), maybe the 60mins stories will be shown on 9am? Where else would TEN use 60mins stories? David Letterman on TEN isn't bad either, being on after the Late News every weeknight would be great (followed by Ellen perhaps? I hope!), maybe The Uplate Gameshow is having a hard time against Quizmania? Tripping Over having a second season is great news to, I have really enjoyed it so far. I'm looking forward to: BB07 TBL House Tripping Over Rules Of Engagement The rest of Jericho and The Wedge. It looks like TEN really are spending some money this next year and really are trying to broaden there appeal. Lets hope it works out for them, although if FOX has a crap year again next year it may screw TEN. |

They probably aren't planning on putting it back on till after Winter (or throughout Summer), when they run out of other stuff to put on. But hey, it looks like we might slowly catch up to the US with Smallville over this Summer though with it being on twice a week. |

It'll be strange seeing letterman on ten. but as long as they don't stuff it around I'm happy. Maybe they'll give it an earlier time slot around 11.30 or so. Not sure how 9am goes against kerri anne but it's much better tv,which means mornings is killing it. I'm addicted to david & kim,and can't stand the phony kerri anne. |

Ah, fair enough. I thought the TEN/FOX deal was with the TV station, not the production company.
But FOX also airs The O.C., despite it being produced by completely different production companies. The network still has complete control over whether or not shows like OC/House will make it to another season. Unless of course another network decides to pick up the program.

Futurama wrapped in 2003,
Comedy Central will be airing new episodes of Futurama, so I doubt that that counts.

4 Futurama straight to DVD features are planned, unconfirmed rumours say comedy central will break them down to four episodes a piece http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurama#Future_and_DVD_movies

People are only assuming that the Futurama movie will be broken up due to the fact that the same was done for Family Guy. If this is the case, I will be gravely disappointed. Then that means we'll only have 9 or 10 new episodes in the new season, which seems VERY unlikely. If Comedy Central really wants to air the movie, I'm sure they'll air it in its entirety after airing the 5th season. |

New episodes of Futurama coming to Comedy Central ... for real! Posted Jun 22nd 2006 2:44PM by Joel Keller We've reported on every single little rumor that's come out about Futurama's return. We've asked Billy West, who couldn't tell us anything definitive one way or the other. But -- finally! -- we have some confirmation that Futurama is indeed coming back. And we can thank Craig Ferguson for it. When Katey Sagal visited The Late Late Show the other day, she told Craig that the show is coming back to Comedy Central in 2008 for at least 13 episodes (I was watching that appearance, too. Must have slept through that part). Don Kaplan of the New York Post confirmed this; his sources told him that all the primary voice actors signed new deals this week. Also according to the article, FOX may have the option to air the new episodes, but probably won't. The new episodes will also come out on DVD after they air. So at least 13 new episodes! I'm assuming TEN will air them in 2008 but that's a long time to wait. But then I'm rather new to Futurama and there are quite a few 'new' ones for me still to watch! Here's a post by 'Bender'... 19. Hey, everyone. I'm John DiMaggio, I'm the voice of Bender on the show, and yes it's true: WE'RE COMING BACK! Billy, Katey, Maurice, and myself (as well as the other cast members) are looking forward to (mid-to-late) July to start getting into the studio and record new episodes. Thanks for all the support and digging the show all these years! Bite my shiny metal a**!! And I'm out!!!!!!!! Posted at 8:46PM on Jun 22nd 2006 by John DiMaggio http://www.tvsquad.com/2006/06/22/new-episodes-of-futurama-coming-to-comedy-central-for-real/ |

Ten Daytime in 2007 needs time cutting for Oprah and Dr. Phil to 50 Minutes, that includes less Advertising and More Programming. And what's happened to Ten's deal with Sony Pictures? Haved they sold their share back to Nine? |

TEN ANNOUNCES SERIOUSLY DIFFERENT DIGITAL MEDIA STRATEGY 6 December 2006 Network Ten today unveiled details of its highly differentiated, large-scale digital media business that will formally launch in February 2007. TEN's chief executive officer, Grant Blackley, said: "Our audience has shown us the way. They want and expect to experience our unique TV brands where and when they want them. “They're passionate about our content and demand deeper engagement and the chance to interact with our personalities and the community. TEN is empowering them to do so.” TEN will relaunch its main website, http://www.ten.com.au, in February 2007, with a focus on video streaming and downloads, and on communities surrounding core TV brands. TEN's general manager - digital media, Damian Smith, said: "Essentially, it's TV on the internet. "We're taking great broadcast brands and making them available in the right new way for an audience that was 'born digital'". ten.com.au will be supported by more than 50 program sites and relevant online communities, with appropriate versions and extensions of programs for portable and mobile devices, as well as for broadband users. TEN’s approach to digital media is as differentiated as in broadcast; TEN has neither licensed its digital future to a third party nor replicated the search, email and classifieds-based attributes of the portals. "TEN is the number one broadcast network for 16-39s (a subset of our target 18-49 profile, which we also lead), and it's the power of that programming that will drive our online, portable and mobile strategies," Mr Smith added. "We'll offer advertisers significant new opportunities to build brands and also to directly engage with consumers." Mr Smith noted TEN had seen numerous examples of strong audience demand for more, different and extended TV content via digital media this year. Examples include: • TEN's recent free, advertiser-supported downloads of scenarios from Thank God You're Here were a huge hit and were for several weeks the number one podcast in Australia • TEN's flagship digital franchise, Big Brother, was both the number one television website in Australia in 2006 and also led the way in true cross-platform integration of TV, internet, interactive services, and mobile phone video content • Nearly 20% of the page views to the Australian Idol site this year have been video streaming (more than 2.5m streams in total), indicating huge demand for additional video content Mr Smith added TEN’s digital media activities would expand TEN’s audience. “Television will continue to be the mass audience-driver in under-50s,” he said. “But we're now adding new platforms and opportunities to engage our audience outside traditional broadcast times and places." Mr Blackley said executives across TEN had been engaged in TEN's digital planning for more than 12 months. Mr Smith, previously chief executive of the NASDAQ-listed LookSmart, joined TEN in July to bring TEN's plans to fruition. The senior management team for TEN's digital media division is in place. Reporting to Mr Smith are: Siva Alihan, head of technology; Peter Birch, head of sales; and Lisa Hickson, head of content and marketing. An experienced management team spanning sales, product management and technology support has also been appointed. Mark Strong, who has been head of content and programming in TEN's digital media division, will be consulting to the Network in a transitional role then departing to pursue other opportunities in 2007. Mr Strong has played a key role in developing the strategy and leading several key 2006 initiatives for TEN Digital. Mr Smith concluded that the team were working towards the official launch of ten.com.au in February. "We're integrating best-of-breed technology suppliers, and working with our production partners to extend the broadcast experience. "We're also now engaging deeply with key advertising customers to get them involved up-front in delivering a great, targeted consumer experience from day one." Source: Network TEN Corporate |

http://www.itwire.com.auHostworks signs $2.5 million online deal with Channel 10 By Stan Beer Sunday, 10 December 2006 TV network, Network Ten has chosen online service provider Hostworks to manage its critical new online presence in 2007, which includes Australian Idol, Big Brother and online extensions of other key programs. The initial contract value is approximately $2.5 million. Hostworks will provide a comprehensive managed service to support the significant new online presence for Network Ten's digital division as a key partner in Ten's bid to gain a greater share of the $1 billion Internet advertising market. Ten this week revealed it will launch at least 50 sites based on both local programs such as Australian Idol, Big Brother and Thank God You're Here and overseas series. Hostworks' agreement with Ten is planned to grow as the broadcaster positions itself as a major player against competitors in the Australian market. Ten's General Manager - Digital Media, Damian Smith, said Ten chose Hostworks for its unique capability, reliability, scale and exceptional quality customer service. "We have worked with Hostworks previously on programs such as Big Brother which have been very successful," he said. Mr Smith predicted the Ten sites would attract 1.5 million unique visitors by early 2008. "In the first year, we will focus on building the user experience," he said. "Hostworks' reliability and its ability to scale to meet huge volumes of demand are vital to provide people with a great online experience." Australia will record more than $1 billion in Internet advertising expenditure this year, a growth rate of 60%, based on research by the Australian Bureau of Verification Services. Hostworks Director Sales & Marketing Klaus Bartosch said the Ten deal had a lot of potential for growth. "We enable Ten to meet whatever demand its online initiatives attract," he said. "As their online audience grows, the Network can use Hostworks' online platform and our company's deep and unique expertise in this space, to confidently build additional revenue streams from its planned significant digital services." |

Here's something I found in The Sun Herald 'Television' section today... Going to the dogs Former Wheel Of Fortune host Larry Emdur is swapping networks and genres to take the helm of Channel Ten's new series Celebrity Dog School. In a weekly competition Larry will referee stars such as singer Toby Allen, footballer Robert DiPierdimenico and Ten's A.J. Rochester as they go through a series of tests to see who has the best-trained hound. It's nice to see Larry will be back on television, he has always been a good host... |

Be sure to grab today's Sunday Telegraph for a free Network TEN DVD (make sure you ask for it as they may forget to hand it to you ). It contains the third season premiere of House, the complete first episode of Teen Fat Camp (*yawn*), a half-hour look at 2007's The Biggest Loser contestants, and a 5 minute preview of The Wedge. Some of the circumstances of the TBL constestants were heartbreaking, and I found myself cracking up when they'd zoom into some of them stuffing their faces. Unfortunately, you need to sit through 7 and a half minutes worth of TEN promos before you can watch any of the aforementioned. You heard me, 7.5 minutes of unskippable promos. The shows included in the promos are Rules of Engagement (a cringeworthy, unfunny "comedy" by Adam Sandler ), The Biggest Loser, Teen Fat Camp, Raine, The Simpsons, The Wedge, Thank God You're Here, Big Brother, Medium, NCIS, The O.C., Australian Idol, The Con Test, House, Supernatural, Bondi Rescue, Saving Babies, Jamie Oliver's 3 new shows, AFL, Rugby World Cup 2007, V8 Supercars (unsure about this lol). There may be a few more, but who cares? |

Can't wait for my free Tropfest 2007 DVD lol. Well, I hope the Sydney Morning Herald gives it to us again this year. And I haven't had luck in burning any of my DVDs since most of them are dual layered and hold around 6-8GB and I don't have discs that large lol. And I might need a new burner in order to do that. |

Who the hell would want to watch another bleeding promo on Thank God you're here??? Are people that bored that they will watch this crap??? I've seen several episodes and I'm still actually waiting to see anything funny off of that show...
I was just so happy to Thank God it's gone (hopefully forever).
and don't get me started on 'The Wedge'... what a pile of untasteful @#$%!!!!!! Because of this show and Russell incompetent's Outback adventures and all that australian comedy rot... I refuse to watch another single aussie comedy... because my time is too important to be watching that trash... there's better american stuff to watch. |

The finale rated around the 600k mark. Which is EXTREMELY low for a locally produced program which looks costly to make. |

I felt the show was too... cluttered in order for the audience to feel any sort of "connection" with the characters. |

Me? I never said Heroes was good lol. A show like Tripping Over never had time to develop since Ten only ordered 6 episodes. Ironically, I think if they bothered to order more, they could have put more time into developing the characters and their relationships instead of rushing it the way they did. |

I think it was me that was "quick". If a TV show doesn't grab me in the first few minutes, it never will. I was unlucky enough to watch a friend's taped episode of Tripping Over" and I agree with aqua's comment that it was "really, really uninteresting". PS at least it wasn't about dogs |

Yeah, I have had a good look at the site now and it is much better than it looks at first glance. And lets face it, it is better than what Seven and Nine have done, I hate the way they are affiliated with Yahoo and MSN respectively, I much prefer the way TEN is with just a site for the channel and thats it.

That's the one lol. Gosh, even Futurama has it's own page. And they even put up a comprehensive O.C. page even though it's final episodes wrap up this week. And in regards to The Simpsons, how could Ten leave out their most overplayed (and most successful) show? |

Smallville and The Simpsons. Although the site for Smallville can be found here: http://www.ten.com.au/smallville I don't know where The Simpsons part is though. EDIT: Actually I was trying http://www.ten.com.au/thesimpsons and wasn't getting anything so I decided to remove 'the' and it now works. So that is http://www.ten.com.au/simpsons
Still they need to fox their TV shows page for Smallville and The Simpsons so that people don't have to guess the address to the subsites or always use the search. |

Nope. But they should do a reality series called Teen Band Camp. |

Ten signs BBC's hit Dr Who spin-off Wednesday Feb 28 19:09 AEDT
Sizzling British sci-fi drama Torchwood, a Doctor Who spin-off about American air force renegade Captain Jack Harkness, has been licensed to Network Ten by BBC Worldwide.
The adventure-packed series follows a team of global investigators led by the John Barrowman-played Harkness, who first appeared on Doctor Who in 2005.
The department named Torchwood is dominated by bright young characters who make the most of alien technology which they scavenged from an alien wreckage to fight crime.
The first episode of Torchwood was the most watched non-sport program ever to air on a British digital channel when it was shown on BBC Three.
The program is directed straight at Ten's target 16- to 39-year-old audience, it's sexy, clever and fast-paced.
The Australian network has already shown great faith in the show by committing to a second series, which is yet to be completed.
Ten head of programming Beverly McGarvey said: "Torchwood brings a sexy new twist to the traditional cop show genre that we at Ten are thrilled to have as part of our 2007 slate".
Torchwood, written by Doctor Who, Casanova, and Queer as Folk's Russell T Davies has now been sold to nine countries.
It was named after an anagram which was used to protect the secrecy of early Doctor Who roughcuts.

Can I just say - WTF are TEN thinking, I don't think this is going to rate well here. |

I thought the ABC got the rights for that? WTF? channel 10?!?!?!!?! They will SCREW IT UP and it will end up on a 1am in the morning or something. That's if they show the entire season. I'm not happy about this.

I thought it was fairly meh until the middle of the season and then fell in love with it. I really hope TEN gives it a chance. |

No!!! Torchwood isn't exactly bad, it's just not very gripping. I don't really know how to describe it, having quite enjoyed the second season of Who, after watching Torchwood all I could think was "Whaaat". But it doesn't deserve to be compared with Braga trash! |

Did anyone catch the Joanne Lee's thing? It wasn't great the acting was quite terrifying and ummm I don't mean that in a good way.
What was with Joanne's accent it was sort or brittish/australian/NZ? The only worse accents I've heard are in the australian episode of the simpsons (bute it waz an im-ergaincee) and "the gutte" in Don't tell her it's me! |

Yes. It is. I fail to see why we need to have the election coverage all night on THREE stations. Good night though if you run a DVD rental franchise. |

Outrageous Fortune. 2 HOURS. Tonight. 10.30pm. On TEN. Seriously. (knowing TEN, Australian Idol will air 2 hours overtime and we'll all be stuck with 2 hours of girls cheering and Mark talking gibberish) |

Outrageus Fortune is a really good quality show, by far the best New Zealand production and funnier that any Aussie Dramady.
As for Aus Idol tonight, I think it's pretty obvious it will be the lowest rated ever, something around 1.6-1.9 mill possibly. I dont know that will probably be over-optimistic |

Yup. That's great news. I'm disappointed though that Ten will STILL be playing Smallville at 7.30pm (which means that the episodes will be censored). For God's sake, the Season 6 DVD is rated MA15+! Get your act together, TEN! |

so every 1/2 decent show will be on 10 HD and they'll just pile an extra load of cr@p on to ten right? If they feel these shows didn't get big enough numbers previously why start a new channel for them? |

I guess the HD channels are a way of making a little money out of something they normally wouldn't (I'm guessing advertising on these channels would be pretty cheap) and as a bonus they clean out their cupboards and satisfy viewers. |

Interesting that in the Ten HD ad (I can see clearly now) they only show two short clips, and of a show that ten screwed over royally! It would hardly have me thinking 'lets give ten another go'. |

Oops I posted the other day about Friday Night Lights. I forgot to mention I was referring to the series, not the movie.
I caught the pilot a while back, and was blown away.
I’m almost 100% sure that the new ch.10 HD ad has a clip of FNL at the very end…
anyone??? |

Only the best show EVER!
Ok, so it’s “critically acclaimed” and we all know that is code for a good show with not so good ratings. But it does have a super cute cast so that evens it out a little, right?
Remember the movie of the same name from a few years back, with Billy Bob Thornton? About Texas high school football, but not really about the football, more about the lives of the guys on the team and the town etc etc |

Quoted Text
IT's a good news day for Good News Week fans, with Channel 10 bringing back the much-loved current affairs comedy.
Uncertainty about the writers' strike in the US has provided Ten with the perfect opportunity to greenlight more local shows this year.
And GNW is the first to profit from it.
Last seen on Ten in 2000, its satirical take on the news was the forerunner for shows like The Chaser's War on Everything and the now defunct The Glasshouse.
It also launched the TV careers of household names like Rove McManus, Adam Hills and Wil Anderson.
The show's original host Paul McDermott will return to front the 2008 version.
And he says the show already has the new Federal Government clearly in its sights.
"There's a new government and the honeymoon period is over with them," McDermott told TV writer Stephen Downie yesterday.
"The gloves are off and we're going to start hitting them where it hurts, as soon as we can get on air."
McDermott's guest wish list includes his "dream team" of Keith Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman.
http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story/0,26278,23064051-5013560,00.htmlHopefully the "creative genii" @ Ten don't interfere to much and it will be more like the GNW seen on ABC! |

Thirteen episodes have been shown in the US which I suspect is an entire season. If Ten doesn't show it to the end of Season One, at least, then Ten are even bigger losers than I would ever have thought. |

Yeah it looks unlikely CBS will continue Cane with the ratings it has been getting, 5-7 millionish. As for Jerricho didnt that end up being renewed after innitially being cancelled......or is it all off because of the strike? |

New shows are really up in the air at the moment though. If the writers strike is resolved the networks may do a second season of some shows that would not have otherwise made it due to not being able to prep new shows i.e. they don't have scripts/plots and therefore can't cast, create sets, select locations, etc. |

I believe Dara was referring to the Australian airing of Jericho. I'm pretty sure the second season is already (if not close) to completion in the US as the first three episodes of season two have recently leaked online. |

It's that time again... The Sunday Telegraph are giving away a free "TEN in 08" DVD next Sunday which will contain the following... * The Biggest Loser 3 Preview (like last year, I assume this will be a half-hour "exclusive" which showcases all the contestants on the show) * So You Think You Can Dance Preview And I think it's safe to assume that the following episodes are new... * NCIS [Full Episode] * Rules of Engagement [Full Episode] * Back To You [Full Episode] Plus, if last year's DVD was any indication, you'll probably have to sit through another 7 minutes worth of "COMING SOON TO TEN" ads before you're allowed to access the main menu. Here's hoping that they learned from last year's mistakes (hey, there's a first time for everything, right? ) Anywho, TV has been REALLY lackluster these past few months, and I STRONGLY doubt I'll have the nerve to watch either of the new "comedies" (I still didn't watch the Teen Fat Camp episode and the Wedge preview from last year's DVD lol), but considering that it's free, I'll grab it next week. I don't know if the giveaway applies in all states though. Check your Daily/Sunday Telegraph websites/papers for more info. You can receive the DVD by clipping out the coupon (usually on pg2 of the paper) and handing it in to your local newsagent/servo clerk. |

Frankly I'm not looking forward to the DVD as much as I was last year. There's NOTHING worth a damn on TV nowadays apart from Skins. All I've been watching on TV of late are my Frontline DVDs, and I can't wait for the Futurama movie and first season of Outrageous Fortune on DVD. |

Why? I said I wanted to buy it on DVD. I strongly doubt that Channel Ten would play it anytime soon (at least not until the chopped up versions of the episodes air on Comedy Central in the US). And quite frankly I'm not interested in anybody's opinions regarding the movie. I'll judge it for myself. |

Didnt notice that till just then, not sure if it's a smart move. SYTYCD would have been better on Thursday where the US version did pretty well, Sundays have pretty stiff competition from Greys and CSI. |

SYTYCD is the only show TEN really has that can stand up to the competition on Sunday so it makes sense to me (plus Sunday has been TEN's reality/big event night for years now... |

Friends is rubbish. If they're going to replace The Simpsons they could at least replace it with Futurama, Sabrina or hell, I'd even settle for Seinfeld. |

That may be the case but if you remember correctly Loser, Big Brother and Idol all suffered aggainst the competition on Sunday's last year. Not to mention this show could be a massive hit as apposed a most likely mediocre one aggainst Greys and CSI. So why not put it in a lesser competitive slot because it seems a lot is riding on this for ten. |

Don't forget SYTYCD starts at 7.30 which will most likely be against Ugly Betty on Seven and 60 Minutes on Nine. I think Seven should be the one most worried, it will probably kill Ugly Betty plus SYTYCD will no doubt go over an hour every week and could end up effecting Greys figures (especially if it has a crap lead-in and Greys isn't as strong as it once was). But really, if TEN improves in 18-49's on Sunday's they will be happy (and I think with this line-up they are likely to win that demo every week). |

I'll pass on just about everything, pity they didn't put GNW and Burn notice back to back. 4.55 hours of fatarama is a bit to much, if anyone is on the couch for all of that you might need to have a look at yourself, as for kid nation I was home last Friday and saw about 3 minutes of it, it was either turn off the TV or hunt the little shits down!
I'm sure there'll be a heap of "blockbuster movie premieres"! |

I dont actually think Ugly Betty will be returning to 7 Sunday line-up, it's looking more like Samantha Who? in the 7.30 slot, which will either bomb or do well against SYTYCD, and vice versa.

Emg SG no way. Futurama wouldn't exactly be a big change... and well Sabrina would be good as well... and I like Seinfeld :O (but Frazier's better). Friends is Brilliant! |

I'm a part of their "key demo" (apparantly), and there's NOTHING that I'd want to watch on Ten. The only TV I've been watching of late is SBS and ABC. This time last year I seldom watched either one of those channels. |

From TV Week:
Network Ten will soon add to the managerie of animal series currently on air with Bondi Vet, which follows the day-to-day life of former Burke's Backyard vet Dr Chris Brown at his Sydney practice. I hear that the owners are expected to be just as entertaining as their pets, so look out for it in the second half of this year. |

Tonights lineup
6:30 Futurama 7:00 Friends 7:30 Simpsons 8:00 Rules of Engagement 8:30 Double Jeopardy
All repeats, but a surprisingly watchable night for 10! Unfortunately overly loud ads for their reality lineup will also run all night long....... |

I saw this on the 7 pm report and wondered what it was about.Ch 10 'mocks mental patients'January 29, 2010 02:30pm MENTAL health advocates have lashed out at Channel 10's new station promotion, which features network stars mimicking patients in a support group. The Daily Telegraph reports high-profile presenters including Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Paul McDermott and Shaun Micallef parody those in crisis, appearing dishevelled, catatonic and highly emotional. Bassingthwaighte cries hysterically, comic Mikey Robbins rocks in his chair, mumbling, while Neighbours starlet Margot Robbie mindlessly strums the show's theme song on a toy guitar. Talkin Bout My Generation's Amanda Keller sums up the stars' complaints, telling the group they are feeling "the pressure of making 2010 even better than last year''. However, counsellors have attacked the station as "insensitive'' and "distasteful.'' Lifeline's Chris Wagner said the latest "Seriously'' sketch, which was leaked on You Tube but will air on Sunday, ran the risk of discouraging those in need. "They make a joke of what can be a really important process for those dealing with a mental health crisis and if it discourages even one person from seeking out this sort of help or support that is not on,'' he said. Barbara Hocking, executive director of Sane Australia, said she was "disappointed'' in the stars who participated in an advertisement which "mocked and trivialised'' support groups. http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,26649708-5006301,00.htmlLink to Daily Telgraph article here... http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/seriously-sick-sketch/story-e6frewyr-1225824636399 |

That to me is as bad as the Black minstrels sketch on Hey Hey! Disgusting. Maybe it was not done to insult but it fell way short of what they intended. |

Just as the Hey Hey sketch wasn't, but you'd think a network would have some sort of PR department that would say "hmmm this might not be for everyone...?" |

It didn't even register with me as being remotely offensive (or terribly funny for that matter), nor did the Hey Hey sketch, or the banned KFC ad. |

Well having a close relative who has/had Asperger's Syndrome and with my daughter having worked with people with any number of disabilities for several years and having a friend who drives for Disabled and wheelchair bound people, I find it offensive. Also knowing the African/American struggle to even be regarded as human beings I was offended by the skit on Hey Hey but then again I find Hey Hey Offensive on many levels. That's just my view and ideals. |

The KFC ad was nothing, the hey hey bit I still don't think a lot of people get, but I can see why people who need support groups for whatever reason could see it as making fun of whatever they suffer from, and the people who run the groups many on their own time and coin feel their efforts are not taken seriously.
It's sort of how Michael on The Office summed up accidentally calling a gay employee gay. "You don't call a retarded person a retard, you call your friends retards when they're acting stupid". |

Yes you wouldn't think it would have taken too many brains to realise it. |
