Have you met a celebrity, someone famous, seen the Queen of England, a Prime Minister, a sporting champion? Tell us here! If you have pics of you with them, all the better. I grew up knowing Geoff Lawson (ex cricketer) from Wagga very well. Our families were friends. Even played 'spin the bottle' with him and his brother when we were about 10 or 12.

Big jealous glare @ Suzi for playing spin the bottle with Geoff Lawson and for meeting Ian Botham.

My only claims to fame are that I danced with Malcolm Fraser in the late 70s (or might have been early 80s) and raced (and beat hehehe) David Tonkin (former Premier of SA) to the bar at a Liberal party "do".

Totally off topic but well done at losing all that weight!    I have lost 51.5 kgs, so know how hard it can be to do it.

I lived down the street from Hulk Hogan, lived briefly near Lorne Greene (spelling), lived near Chad Everet (Apparently caught tresspassing on our property in the middle of the night by my dad and his explanation was "No it's okay, I'm Chad Everet"), went to school wiht Tracy Gold from growing pains before she was on the show and sister Missy Gold from Benson long after she was on the show, was the nemisis of Kirk Cameron from Growing Pains before he was on the show, was friends with Don Adam's son while at boarding school, met Farah Fahwecet when i was about 6 or 7 (spelling and I thought she was ugly at that age), and thought I was also at boarding school with George Lucas' son but a quick read of his bio on IMDB told me that they guy was lying about who his dad was.  That was a recent find after seeing Star Wars 3 and hearing that one of his kids had a small role in it.

Near misses (never met but could have or almost did):
The guys who played Bo and Luke Duke in the original TV series.  Redd Foxx.  A whopping majority of the best players of the LA Lakers (back when Kareem was still playing).  Reverand Jesse Jackson.

Almost forgot, when I used to be in the city more often it seemed like I'de see David from At The Movies like twice a year (and once... while "at the movies") but I never stopped him to acknowledge him.

As for the people I've met, only Hulk Hogan was famous at the time and it was really odd but my reaction was to freeze up while I thought it was no big deal since there were other celebrities that lived close by that I'de never met so I was used to it in theory.  Farrah Fawcett thought she was top stuff... easy to see even at that age, my older brother was high on life for at least a week after though.

At the do where those pics were taken, I finished off my film with a couple of pics of Rani, Kamahl's daughter. She was lovely and so personable we stood talking for a long time. Right beside me about 18 inches away, was... Patrick Rafter, Ian Botham, Dermott Brereton, and a very drunk professional golfer. (He is not one of the well known golfers and I don't even remember his name except he was legless). As Rani and I were chatting there must have been a dare discussed. We were on the decking over the water of a lake at Twin Waters Resort (just up the road from me) and Patrick began to strip... down to his boxers, as did the three others except only Dermie had boxers also I think, the other two wore jocks. I had NO FILM left and Rani said 'Now aren't you glad you finished off your film on me?' we laughed but it was such a missed opportunity. They walked down to the water and dived in, obviously having a race but the golfer kept going under... Ian Botham saved him twice, the second time he stayed on shore with him to get him to stay there. The other two, Pat and Dermie disappeared into the blackness and didn't reappear that night. It was great.

Geez, I didn't regognize a single Australian celeb in those pictures, except for Bob Hawke, and he aint a celeb, lets face it. Yet I have heard of all the celebs MeanDean has met/almost met! So I wouldn't be surprised if I've stood next to a whole bunch of Aussie celebs and never knew!

About the most famout person I met was Rachel Beck after a performance of Singing in the Rain.

Well, the name of the thread is 'Have you met someone famous?' and Bob and even Geoff Gallop could pass for famous or in Bob's case 'infamous'. Rachel Beck definately qualifies as she was on TV and now doing so well on the stage. Plus she is a sweetie.
I have also met and had a chat to John Farnham and one of his backups then, Jack Johnson. Jack chatted for a long time and told me a lot about himself. That was before his interlude with Rebecca Gibney. He was a very nice young man.

As a taxi driver of 5 years. . *no longer*. . I met many famous people. No pics as that was poor form.
Lleyton Hewitt just after he was defeated in the US open in 2000.  Drove his family  home from the airport.
Julie Anthony was here for her nieces wedding and her and her family sang to rehearse a song she was to perform at the wedding. . .all along Anzac Hwy people were pointing and looking.
Most of the Australian Cricket Team .and manager John Buchanan. (I had a station wagon to carry their stuff)
Malcolm Frazer. . accidentally stood on my foot in the gift shop of the Adelaide Airport. . them when I squealed he looked down and said 'sorry' . .he is 9ft tall.

Lorae Desmond. .  Phil Smyth - 36's coach . . Brian Wenzel. . and singer Dido.
Got her autograph too.

Bjelke Jo circa 1980.  I was in an ag store in Peanutland when this short man walks in.  I was gob-smacked at his height, I thought he was much taller from what I've seen on telly.  He said hello and then mumbled something about God and rain and how we deserve our lot in life.

I was on holidays in Vanuatu the first Easter after 911 and the resort was deserted except for myself, my daughter and the management.  After dinner we would have a couple of drinks before going back to our bungalow.  Every night at the bar was the owner, David L Ross, a part-time Star Trek actor from the original series.  He was planning to turn the resort into a “Trekky” Resort and would delight in telling me his plans for the place.  Recent news from Vanuatu is that David has fled Vanuatu leaving behind debts while selling his property to some Australian investors for 2 mil ...what a bargain!

Apart from sitting next to celebrities at the airport waiting for flights, David is probably the biggest celebrity I have met or known personally.

One of my neighbors is a “poor” cousin to a well known and popular Australian Hollywood actor but I can't tell you who he is because you'll almost certainly guess my address and blow my anonymity

Ooh Mean Dean - Hulk Hogan - my hero!

I meet Stewart wagstaff quite a few years ago, recently have had meetings with a couple of politicians (Qld state government) minister For Main Roads Paul Lucas and Premier "Hollywood Pete" as part of enterprise bargaining actions. Would not have called either meeting pleasant!

The Hulk Hogan thing was embarrassing because I locked up like a scared animal and got really, really nervous.  I was with a friend of mine and luckily he had the same reaction or I would have felt even more stupid.

I forgot, I might have posted it down in chit chat but I don't remember.  Sometimes I start to type things and think "no, that's just too useless" and close the window out before hitting reply. Anyhow, I delevered a car load of pizzas to the loading dock of a ZZ-top concert backstage thingy.  I LOVED ZZ-Top at the time.  I didn't get much of a tip out of it.  It's my fault though because I could have walked in and met the band and everything but some girls came out to get it and paid me and I they were just seizing an opportunity to get backstage themselves.  I'm not sure they actually belonged there.  But a $5 tip on 20 pizzas.  My fault or not, they still owe me money.

Also, when I first moved here my wife was in a Jazzercise class and they did some charity fundraiser thing, paid entry sort of thing.  There were lots of games and the guy that was hosting it I kept finding myself outside with since we were both smokers and we talked quite a bit.  I found out later that he's a celebrity here, but I've still only seen him on the television a few times.  Some holiday show or Garden show or DIY or something, can't remember now.  Nice guy, I thought he was just a little odd, looking around like someone was going to jump out with a knife all the time but after I was told that he was on a TV show it sort of reasoned a little bit that he'd be like that... either that or he was on speed.  Oh I remember... it's a show where he offers people money to do weird things like $50 to get one eyebrow waxed completely off your face.  That sort of thing.  It's that guy.

What's Tia_ballerina mean saying the only famous person she has met is Anthony Callea, next to a picture of Kate D'Aurugo. Does that mean that Kate is not famous yet? Famous for winning Idol only perhaps?

I met Mike Whitney also once when he came to our street to do a segment on Christmas lights for Sydney Weekender. We have plenty of lights.

I also met Lochie Daddo the other week at Manly. He is a really nice guy. At the same do was the guy from Skippy who drove the helicopter. Ian Thorpe is always at our local shopping centre, and Steve Waugh also lives near us and played soccer at the local club as does his son Austin who played under 6 's last year.

Daryl Brohman also lives in our street, so see him around a bit. He just thinks he's famous. Met the Pope once too - think he's famous too.

My friend's brother was a doctor in the UK and used to escort groups of sick people on pilgramages to Rome. He was with one group who were waiting for the Pope to come out and bless them and it was a very hot day.   He noticed an empty wheelchair nearby, so he sat in it.  Before he knew it, the Pope was there and the one person he singled out from the whole crowd to bless - my friend's brother in his wheelchair. I guess the Pope is a pretty famous person.    I used to know Mick Jones from The Clash, we used to go ten pin bowling together.

I'll definately remember it for the rest of my life. It was a case of right time right place.
About 10yrs ago they were relaxing in coffee shop in Cairns prior to kicking off their first ever world tour that same night. I just happened to walk in to get a drink and all four of them were seated around a table.
I was starstruck and asked them to autograph the 1st thing I could find which was a serviette. They were happy to ablige and invited me to sit with them (I was evidently the first person to recognise them in the 2 days that they had been in town). I was busy trying not to drool too much as I was seated next to Andrea (lead singer) and Caroline .
As I was going to the concert that night, they invited me to come backstage before the show (unfortunately it wasn't one big orgy though ).

I met Ned (I don't know what his real name is) from Neighbours at the Docklands at Melbourne. We were walking past and my friend saw him and she asked to take a photo with him. Although someone didn't put the flash on so the photo didn't come out. I don't even think he said anything.

He's the guy in her signature who has red hair on the top of his head.  He was... second or third runner up in Australian Idol and currently has at least one single out that I know of.

Well I am going to show my age here...we had Gary Gray attend our primary school from way back in the days when Bellbird used to be on TV and I think he did Homicide too.  I was about 6 or 7 then.  Also met Eric Oldfield (mega hunk from The Young Doctors) who came to our high school's careers day (I was 15 and still have his autograph)  Whatever happened to him???  Met Bert & Patti Newton on the plane back from Hawaii in the 80's.  They were in first class and we talked the air hostess into getting any famous person that might be there to come and visit and tell them there were Aussies on board (how arrogant where we lol).  We ended up with Bert and Patti coming into economy and getting pics taken and autographs etc.  Was standing in line at the airport behind Barry Humphries wearing a huge hat pulled down over his face and overcoat.  One of my friends yelled out "Hey Barry" and he turned around.  Doh!  Cover blown    That was the same trip.  On trip to London our bus was driving beside Rolf Harris' chaufer driven car.  We aussies were all leaning out the windows with our aussies flags and kagaroos etc and Rolf actually got out his sunroof and was yelling Aussie Aussie Aussie and such and giving us thumbs up etc.  That was pretty cool

Yesterday while on the stairs, I saw a Man who wasn't there.  He wasn't there again today...I wish that He would go away!!

Oh yeah and ran into Scott Carne of Kids in the Kitchen (literally) at Melbourne Airport.  Met Joey Perrone of Young Talent Time when he was trying to make it big but was doing pub gigs instead.  Met most of the Young Talent Team in the late 70's early 80's where I got to meet Tiny Tina Arena and Bobby Driessand   And I watched a whole crowd of people follow a young Home and Away star (can't remember her name but she played the part of Finlay Roberts, Irene's daughter and she had really long blonde hair and dimples).  She had come back home for the christmas holidays and it amused me that no-one wanted to bother her but she was being stalked by all these people!  And she knew it I think because they kept on ducking into shops.

I actually remember Gary Gray. I thought his name was funny because his first and last names have the same letters. I also remember Gary Day. I am sure Saphyre meant Gary Gray.

I am studying a post grad degree right now, so I am limited to freelance work. I do have a degree in journalism. Mostly I do the political round working for Radio National and ABC radio however I do a bit of print freelance too.

He was a complete gentlemen *swoons* I am not going to pretend I am all nonchalant about these meetings. I had trouble breathing when he kissed my hand and said 'I will never forget being in the presence of such beauty'.

Wheras Axle grabbed my a** and said "Do you know who I am?" haha
I must say however, even with all the drugs and alcholism and perhaps even a wife? There is something to say about rock star appeal!!!

Josh on the other hand... well I don't kiss and tell. Wait, did I just tell you we kissed? I am a journalist, we can't keep secrets
