Mark Taylor. Steve Waugh did a lot of work to establish Australia's dominance but Mark Taylor laid a lot of the foundation for him to work with.

stevie the man, mark taylor had funny ideas even stopped the players from bringing their wifes into the dressing rooms and from listening to music from their walkmens.

Alan Border. Most of the other captains had great players to use but Alan was left to deal with some ordinary players when no one else wanted the job.

It’s easy to be a successful captain when you have good players.  Just look at Ponting, he has the same iq as Warnie yet still manages to win most games.  If Border had the players that Waugh or Taylor had he would probably be undefeated.

i am a bit young but i have heard don bradman was a great captain but modern days i'd have to go with greg chappell and his brother ian chappell. none of this rubbish of batting till you have 600 runs on the board which in my opinion ruins the game.
bradman and the chappells for me.

Hard to pick.  Depends on the circumstances.  If you need someone to pull you out of a scrape then it would be AB or Steve Waugh.  To tell you the honest truth when you need to hear it, Ian Chappell.

It is hard to match as the last few captains have had coaches to help them.  Even AB's captaincy was saved by the appointment of Bob Simpson as coach.

And of course there is Richie Benaud.  Personally I would love to play with any of them.
