I couldn't resist the caption "New forum - be the first to post!"
OK, a bit of reminiscing here (and possibly a give away of one's age too)... what was your first ever car/vehicle?
Mine was a Datsun 180B (yep, giving away my age bracket now aren't I!), bright orange with a black hardtop. Being a young buck I put mag wheels on the girl complete with chrome mud guards.
And, of course, you had to name the girl, and she was affectionately known as "the Dato"! |

Was there any other colour for a 180B. Mine was a second-hand EH Holden, lime green 'n' mags. Had it 2 days before I cooked the motor - only after that did I realise the importance of dash-light warnings!!! I didn't buy another car for several years as I had lost my life's savings,up to that time, getting it painted, cassette player and mags etc, etc. Dad was not amused - it was his old car! |

Mine was a hand me down from my mom. I don't know what year it was but from the late 70's or early 80's I think. It was a Peaugeot 504 deisel. It ran forever and never broke down. I moved and the car stayed at which point I got an 82 Toyota Corolla. It was a good car too. They both survived my abuse as a new driver with a passion for learning how to go offroading in economy sized vehicles. |

My first car was a 1500cc VW 1969 Beetle (duck egg blue) 3 speed semi automatic. I used to fly around in that. A couple of years on I got a 4 speed manual 1974 LH Torana G-Pak - Red with blue stripe, mag wheels and flared guards. Did plenty of PBs in that. The only annoying thing was the hand brake was a pedal on the floor, and it was released by pulling a lever on the dash, so you couldn't ride it at all. I got very good at hill starts and never used the handbrake. My girlfriend's Dad called me the red terror. (now my father in law)
The only thing worse than an orange Datsun 180B was an orange Datsun 120Y. They were gutless crap. At least a 180B could go. |

A 1970 Austin Kimberley X6, would of been a 9 year old car by the time I got it and honestly it was a great car, if daggy looking it had lots of grunt, and heaps of interior space front and back, and very comfortable and easy to drive: When I was searching for a picture of one, I found this advert as well: Note one of the selling points it had a cigar lighter ... not a cigarette lighter, but a cigar lighter ... how times change As I said it was a great first car, never let me down at all, and was always good to shock the stirrers in there Torana SLR's, who laughed at the lights and wanted a drag, and I sat there quitely and when the lights changed left them in my dust (sure they caught me quickly, but on a standing start it flew). |

My first car, that I bought all by myself, was when I was divorced at age 26 in 1981 and a single Mum. It was a Toyota Corona 1963 or '67 model. It was grey but I said it was silver. The number plate had JTD on it which I said stood for Jetted. My daughter was almost 5 but couldn't say Toyota so called it a 'Toy Car'. I got it up to 80MPH once and scared myself. The speedo was in MPH not kilometers. I loved that little car and it was so dependable. Cost me $999.00.
I learnt to drive in my Dad's EH Holden in 1972.

Mine was a 1972(zf I think) ford fairlane beigey in colour and a real bogan mobile. That stuffed up and I promptly bought a 1974 brown zg fairlane which my trendy friend hated riding in. Looking back it was hoon machine and cop magnet! |

Oh what a cute topic!
I was spoilt with my first car, it was a brand new (at the time 1999) Audi A6 2.8L Quattro. I loved that car so much! When I came to Aus land I had to sell it! *cries*

Before getting my first car I bought a motorbike BMW 600 in 1971 Then in 1972 I bought a 1970 holden HT It had the small motor and was a heap of s.ht. In 1973, I bought a brand new holden HQ That turned out to be a fantastic car. Many people told me over the years that the HQ had poor handling. But that was crap. All that car needed was some wider wheels and good tyres. I had them on the car when I bought it. Both the HT and the HQ were station wagons because I wanted the space to carry my camping gears to go on holiday. It turned out that my girl friend wanted a bed in the back and we put curtains on the windows. With the camping gears on a roof rack. We could not be bother taking the curtains off between holidays, so they stayed on the windows until the early eighties. I would be driving most of the night while my girl friend was sleeping in the back. Those were the days! You get caught doing that today, they probably throw me in jail. |

Mine was a Toyota Crown, electric everything and used more oil that fuel  I traded it on a HK station wagon, big car for a 17 yr old, but I loved it.
I had to resize the pic as it was waaaaayyyy too big at double the size it is now. Cheers SuziH
