White Noise with Michael Keaton.
Spook thriller based upon EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) Fascinating concept, but unfortunately not given the respect it should perhaps deserve. Keaton was good with what he had to work with, but the whole movie was lacking..... something.

The last DVD I watched was Minority Report. Great visuals, but one I think I have to watch again to fully appreciate it.
Next up is Japanese Story with one of my favourite actresses Toni Collette. Just trying to find a spare moment to see it! |

I couldn't stand most of Shaun of the dead. It had it's moments but not my kind of humour. The person I watched it with thought it was hilarious. The last DVD I watched was 'Constantine' which was better than I thought it would be and I love that genre. Anyone ever see 'Saw' now that was totally original and wierd but I was not blown away by it. I am hard to please when it comes to Movies. Can't wait for my birthday next month when 'Kingdom of Heaven' with Orlando Bloom is released and I am going to buy it as a present to myself. |

Still haven't seen Shaun of the Dead, but want to! The latest video I've watched would've been Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels except I haven't finished watching it. It's just not holding my interest. |

I actually liked Shaun of the Dead...but I also saw Dawn of the Dead which I liked even more and which Shaun was a take off of. Today I watched "Snapped" which is a seriously whacked movie and I watched "Raise Your Voice" again with Hilary Duff. I lover her movies!! |
| Yesterday while on the stairs, I saw a Man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today...I wish that He would go away!! |

I saw the recent re-make of Dawn of the Dead at the cinema and was surprised at how much I didn't dislike it, if you get my drift. Finally managed to watch Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I'm assured it's a comedy, but I didn't find it all that funny. Probably got something to do with all the violence and the high body count. |

I watched House of Flying Daggers. It had loads of great fighting scenes, most of which were much more beleivable than movies such as Hero but it still of course asks the viewer to accept a lot of things that are far fetched and succeeded with me. The story was a bit confusing at the end and I finally decided that it wasn't so much a matter of confusion, but that it just wasn't all that great. It was in fact kind of bad despite keeping my interest for the majority of the time. Toward the end, it was sort of clear that it was going either be really, really clever or be sort of a let down. It wasn't clever but tried very hard to be. The scenery was really nice. It's not that often I find myself thinking about how breathtaking the filming locations are but I did in this movie. Overall it was a good watch and despite the plot letting me down the fighting scenes were plentifull and well done and despite the let down at the end I was kept interested for most of the movie. and 1/2 Margaret? |

The Upside Of Anger - brilliant drama/comedy - so well written.... 9/10
Crash - a dig at racial issues in the US - should have been better than it is, but does have one or two little twists worth watching for. 5/10
Code 46 - Sci Fi drama with Tim Robbins. I'm a s.u.c.k.e.r for this genre of film, so I may be biased with my rating ....but 9/10!!!! |

I'm currently watching The O.C. Season Two on DVD. I bought it for only $39.95 at some small DVD shop. Their prices were so incredibly cheap, and they had unbelievably cheap prices on their Xbox games too. Too bad the location of the store is pretty bad. |

Couple of days ago, I watched a film I missed seeing at the cinema earlier this year, an Australian film called Three Dollars. All I can say is this is one of the best Australian films I have seen for a while(along with Little Fish). If you haven't seen Three Dollars as yet then I would recommmend it as your next DVD hire. |

I just saw Coach Carter over the weekend and it was better then I though. Samual L Jackson kinda veered off with the XXX films & and Swat but he's found his way back with this film and its pleasing to see him involved in something much more plot driven with solid writing. Cool Runnings & Remember the Titans were the films that automatically came to me after watching this even though neither films have anything to do with Basketball but anywayz, if you liked those two you'll probably enjoy this one aswell. |

I've watched Solaris and Of Mice and Men over the weekend. Solaris was good. It got mixed reviews when it came out. It really can't be classified all theat much as science fiction since all the science fiction parts in it had the unshakeble stink of things that had been done before and reminded me of an episode or 2 of the original Star Trek and just a little bit of some things done in 2001. Either that or it just reminded me of the old series and small peices of the classic movie. I can see why it got mixed reviews. I think people didn't get what they expected. This is a good movie for those who are die hard drama fans to the extent of seeing films at cinemas that show more than just what's popular and well heard of. I found the end lacking a little bit. There was a lack of closure for me, in fact I wasn't even sure what I was looking for at the time becuase I wasn't sure if it was a psychological movie or a drama until after it was over and I've decided that either way there was a lack of closure and this is why I say that it's a film for die hard drama fans that don't experience the aggravation of unanswered questions. I like that in a movie sometimes but I think Solaris could have easily gone a little bit further than it did and left it more than just open ended but unfinished. At the same time though, when I watched subtitled films on SBS I often realise that I enjoy a film that I wouldn't have usually liked if I had seen it in english and I'm sure of myself that had I seen this in a differant language and been reading subtitles, for whatever strange reason of how my brain works, I would have thought Solaris was gold. Aside from the ending, the story takes an a turn that I didn't see coming and I wasn't happy with the change which is little ironic because I think the reason for this is that despite stinking of things that had already been done, it did take those things a step further with the idea behind it, and that idea involved the a problem of some charachtors in the movie not wanting to accept change in their circumstance and I was so facinated at how well some aspects of the film were done and with what was coming next, that when I did not like what came next and where it was taken I resisted defiantly blaming the movie when perhaps I could have stayed on (more) for the ride had I let myself. The ending was also one that I didn't want to accept. I think that some of the info we get in the way of a flashback comes too late to make the ending palatable, not that it was thrown in as a bad attempt to tie things together but that it was poorly timed. I suppose that's a strange way to review a movie... give an opinion while at the same time trying to crpytic opinion about aspects of it to others who have seen it. Three smileys for this Solaris. Of Mice and Men was good but it hardly lived up to the imagery I had of the book. I don't know when this movie was made, but it would have to be pretty dated for me to think that it did well. It still had an emotional effect on me but I think that's just because I let it since I was watching the movie but remembering the book. It took a little to long for me to accept the George charactor as being the one I created when reading it. Lenny's charachtor was good... John Malcovich finally finds a role that he can play. I'm not a big fan of Malcovich so that's meant to be a joke but he did do a very good job with it. An aspect of what gets Lenny into trouble isn't explained in the movie as it should have been and as a result his innocence as a person is put into question with the viewer when it should not have been. That was a lot for the film to overlook. At this point in the film George's charactor becomes less selfless in his intentions that he was in the book and a key decision he is forced to make appears to be something more conveniant for him personally when in fact I felt that it was meant to be something very difficult for him and done for more for the benefit of his companion than for personal gain and I thought the film portrayed it poorly. My guess is that other's would disagree in how they interpreted the book when they read it in comparison to the film. I suppose this one just goes to show that it's foolish to try and take a book like that and try to make a film about it. They seem to get screwed up too often... great books that is, when people try to put them on film. 3 smileys for Of Mice And Men, but only because of where it came from: |

This weekend I have watched A Night at the Roxbury (again), The Neverending Story (again), and Dances With Wolves (first time). I don't feel like typing a lot this time so I'll make it short. A Night at the Roxbury: Still funny 4 out of 5 smileys. The Neverending Story: Cheesier than before, still magical after giving it a chance though. 4 out of 5 smileys. Dances with Wolves: It did so well that I was expecting better but it was still very good. 4 out of 5 smilies. Margaret? |

This movie has War, blood, guts, religion, romance, historical figures and wonderful costumes and make-up. This is one of my all time favorite movies. 5 out of 5 smilies for me..... over to you David. |

I just watched the whole (one and only) season of Firefly and thought it was freakin' awesome! Great characters, great concept - shame on Fox for cancelling it after only one season. And just saw Serenity at the flix and it blew me away - highly recommended to all. Shame it's winding up here in two days. Can hardly wait until the Joss Whedon Wonder Woman movie - hope he uses Inara from Firefly..shwing! What a babe![face=Arial][/face] [color=blue][/color] |

Oh God! I love Solaris! The first time I saw it, I was enraptured and it immediately shot into my top 10. I know it could be better and at times it seems flat etc - but that in itself is part of it's appeal. And who couldn't lust over the sound of Clooney narrating Thomas' poem, Death Shall Have No Dominion. I absolutely love Sci Fi - but this was something extra special. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0307479/Over the weekend I watched a quirky movie called "Bed & Breakfast" which critiques have proclaimed as the USA's version of Shaun Of The Dead. It's not quite funny enough for me to forgive it all of it's sins - but it did crack a laugh or two out of me. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0350774/I also watched Angels In America - which is a HBO mini series about the mid 80's and AIDS. It's quite unusual, and I'm not sure if I can say it was good - but it's still knocking about in my noggin', so it must have had something. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318997/ |

I must watch Solaris. I mean if I loved Battle Field Earth I must be easy pleased! Firefly and Serenity are No No's in my home as my 21 yr old son was soooo ticked that Fox cancelled Buffy and Angel and Joss Whedon came up with Firefly and it was picked up by Fox at the expense of Angel he has never forgiven Joss and therefore his post Angel stuff is banned. I may watch Firefly when and if my son goes away for a holiday... and Serenity bombed at the box office and that is why the film is closing early. It is an acquired taste, although I love that genre of film. |

Halloween (lol!) This movie has definitely stood the test of time. The music score is far-out. Jamie Lee Curtis has a strong, commanding presence to be believable as a hapless victim and Donald Pleasance's role is fruitless, yet he got top credit billing. Watched with the light on. |

I didn't know XXX was a comedy!
I saw Vin Diesel in XXX tonight and it was really funny although it was not meant to be. The stunts, while spectatular and well done, were that far removed from reality that I found myself laughing because they were sooooo serious about it all. And poor vinny desperately needs some acting lessons or better direction. |

Oddly though, as violent as it was it was an anti violence film. This movie introduced me to classical music something which I still enjoy today |

I have yet to see 'A Clockwork Orange'. Today I watched 'Batman Begins' and absolutely loved it. Was told it was the best Batman movie ever and I have to agree. There are 2 more of this type of Batman slated to be made, same director and same actors, apparently. Can't wait. Mind you the only actor I didn't like was Katie Holmes but she wasn't in it often enough to annoy me, thank goodness. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman are as wonderful as ever and always. Even got used to the 'new' Batman. |

Nothin wrong with Star Wars 3 or any other Star Wars for that matter... except maybe 2 unless it's being used for first time viewing or research material for another Star Wars movie.
I've been watching the Firefly series. It's starts off okay and then it gets good around the 4rth or 5th episode and then it got great at episode 6 or 7 or so. Then apparently it got cancelled... bummer. I'm only on episode 9 now and wonder how many seasons it could have gone for without getting to be of lessser quality though. |

I watched Star Wars III last night. I never got around to seeing it in the cinema. I have a question about it. Its clear Padme dies after birthing the twins. Yet Leah talks about how she remembers her mother in episode VI (I think). How do they explain that? Or is this just an inconsistancy that we have to put up with? |

I'm not sure if it's clear if Leah knows her parents are adoptive or if she refers to her adoptive parents when saying that but I'm really just pulling that out of the air. If you go straight into watching Episode 4 you'lle notice some obvious inconsistancies. |

Not in the first one, the first one that came first in the way of things as they truly are that is. Wouldn't that make sense? |

I watched Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, today. I am not a great fan of the latter day Star Wars movies BUT have to say this was exciting, gripping and definitely the best of the modern one's. Now I want to go back and watch the original one's with Harrison Ford to jog my memory and enjoy all over again. |

Inside I'm Dancing
This is a funny and inspirational film about friendship and freedom and a pair of paraplegic young men who break out of their sheltered institutional existence in the Carigmore Home for the Disabled, managed by the inimitable Brenda Fricka, and set up shop in a flat in Dublin. James Mcavoy plays the severely disabled Rory who succeeds in life by sheer force of will and a real gift for the blarney, who also successfully acts as interpreter for Michael, a cerebral palsied boy astonishingly portrayed by Steven Robertson. They succeed in enrolling a beautiful shop assistant Romola Garai to be their carer. It is a film that engages the viewer from the start making you laugh and cry and marvel and ultimately see the world from a different perspective.
I thought it might be a tad melodramatic, but it was just the right mixture of all emotions.

The Island
I love SciFi so I was really looking forward to this movie. But alas....I ought to have saved my money (not that I paid for it, but you know what I mean) About the best thing I liked was the film score/music.
Btw - did anyone notice that Scarlett Johansen had her lips *done* and was sporting a rather obvious bee sting pout....but only for part of the movie!!!???
I will admit I am a bit of a continuity freak, but even so.... it was stupid looking.

I'm not much of a movie goer, but I remember watching the following around 2 months ago... Face/Off - 2 Stars - Crap [Yawn] The movie way too long and predictable. I'm sure I could have reedited the damn thing so it would only waste 15 minutes of my life. Goodfellas - 4 Stars - Good This movie also ran way too long, particularly the ending, which ended on such an unsatisfying note as there wasn't any "action" in the last half hour of the film. In spite of its flaws I've still enjoyed it quite thoroughly. Into The Blue - 1 Star - Abysmal Ugh, words can't describe how awful this film was. Sure, the special effects were well done, but they bored the hell out of me. And the casting was really poor as well. Paul and Jessica had absolutely no chemistry on-screen whatsoever. I couldn't even tell that they were "lovers" until I saw them pash each other on occassion. Thank God I'm one of those people whom rarely ever watches movies. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - 4 Stars - Good Faithful to the book, and the cinematography was wonderful. The acting was weak in some places (understandable, since most of the actors were kids), and the film was very fast paced which was a plus. Some scenes did run a little too long though. Particularly the Quidditch scene. |

I just watched Open Water...I thought it would be a bit dumb but was watching with friends...I gotta say it was a pretty good movie...based on a number of stories of divers being left behind in the open ocean (including one that happened up in QLD where an American couple got left behind and were presumed drowned)(or taken by Aliens depending on what conspiracy theory you subscribe to).
Anyway, for a movie that had 2 heads bobbing around in the water for 3/4 of the action it was very entertaining...good characters and writing...and great camera work.
Well worth a watch (3 1/2 stars from me) and the features were good too - I'm not normally that into features but I watched the interview with the couple who made the movie and it was quite entertaining to hear how they made a movie on such a tight budget |

Want to see a movie you can really pick on?. . War Of The Worlds . . enough flaws in the plot to satisfy event the most hardened 'nit-picker' . . it was better on the small screen though . . the scenes that were tiring to deal with in the cinema were much easier to deal with in my own lounge. . not as bad. |

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised as to how good the movie was too. I only watched it because a family member bought a second hand copy from BlockBuster and I was looking for something to watch one evening and tried it. That scene where her eye level bobs below and above the surface was worthy of any horror movie! *shudder* |

It was flawed to bits and the peanut butter sammie scene in the kitchen was worthy of any church organised Melodrama Night! But I'd watch it again and again just for the noise the Tripods made.... loved that. I must have driven the neighbours crazy running it again and again through the sound system. |

I've not had a single minute for myself today, but yesterday I watched the episode Journey to Babel from the original Star Trek, series two. It's the one where Spock meets his parents after an absence of 4 years. Leonard Nimoy is so good in this. He switches from a true Vulcan Spock to a human Spock in the blink of an eye. I have ordered (for school really) a DVD set of the Canterbury Tales (Geoffrey Chaucer). I'll let you know what that's like as soon as I get it. I'm sure you'll all be waiting with bated breath for that one,. eh? |

Of an evening my son and I are watching The Sopranos series 5, last series shot... the final series... series 6 is coming soon. I am at a point where I dispise most of the characters (well they are the mafia afterall) and find them repulsive. It will be interesting to see where series 6 ends. Tony Soprano.... dead, in gaol or in hiding. The mungrel that he is I hope they kill off his character and disband the 'Family' and gaol all of the others. |

I am in the process of watching 'Deadwood' the TV Series. During the 'off season' I finished watching the Sopranos, caught up with Battlestar Gallactica the TV series and a couple of other TV series on DVD and now I am ready for the ratings period to recommence. |

I watched 'Wolf Creek' today and it is a dreadful movie IMHO. I was raised on all the Halloween, The Hills Have Eyes, all Stephen King's stuff and truly I expect more from todays 'Horror/thriller' genre. I found myself talking at the TV telling the girls what to do. It was so frustrating. I hate movies that frustrate me. Though I must say the acting was pretty damned good especially John Jarratt and Cassandra Magrath. |

RE above post: I made the mistake of watching wolf creek too - at the cinema as well - and apart from the (much overrated and overhyped) 15 minutes or so of violence/action it was the most boring movie I have ever seen!
As to this topic, a really good movie I watched last week was "The Jacket" which is a thriller that involves a gulf war veteran, an insane asylum and time travel (into the future). If you watch this movie, check out the chat forum on imdb for some interesting views on this film.
Tonight I just watched the latest Steven Seagal movie - Black Dawn - which I expected to be very cheesy, over the top, dodgy acting and unbelievable plots, and I wasn't disappointed! |

I just watched the 2005 version of "House of Wax". If you like horror movies like I do its not a bad one. House of Wax delivers what it promises and it ends up being more enjoyable then the critics would suggest. A group of friends on their way to a college football game fall afoul of a pair of killers who trap them in a town made entirely out of wax, except for the eerie wax figures may actually be more real than they look. The plot is nothing new as this type of film has been done many times. I have never seen the original though there are probably very few similarities between the two. Even though House of Wax is formulaic, there's more depth into the story. Your actually introduce to the characters and you may feel some sympathy for them as their running for their lives. The acting was good for this type of film and the best was probably Elisha Cuthbert. She actually does a pretty good job and shows that she may have a longer future in Hollywood. Chad Michael Murray does a good job though nothing special. Jared Padalecki plays Wade and he is probably the dumbest character in the film. Jon Abrahams character was really annoying and was also not really needed. Paris Hilton is the worst out of everyone in the cast. For her first film though she gets by with an average performance but she should still not consider be actress. Jaume Serra directs and he does a good job of not rushing into things and keeping it slow. That's one of the better things about the film is that the story isn't rushed. Usually horror films are short though this one is a bit longer at 105 minutes. The film doesn't get boring though and they do a good job at keeping you entertained. The death scenes are done pretty well and the killers are effectively creepy as well. While the film is not really scary, its scary enough that you shouldn't fell to stupid about spending $9. The ending of the film is kind of dumb though and it needed some work. In the end, you get what you came for which is a entertaining horror flick. |

Yesterday I watched DOOM with my 'gamer' (as in Games) son. He said it was true to the game and as far as action, gore, and thrills we both really enjoyed it. Karl Urban was great as 'Reaper'. The Rock was his usually self, the less he speaks the better but he is big and burley and played 'Sarge' well.
On Sunday I watched "The Skeleton Key' with Kate Hudson and thought it was a very sophisticated thriller. One of the better movies in it's genre that I have seen. Very complex in it's thinking and most enjoyable to watch.
Haven't felt the impulse to watch 'House of Wax' yet! |

I thought house of wax was hilarious - for something marketed as "watch Paris Die" i wasnt expecting too much - can safely say that Chad Michael Murray doesn't play the greatest Bad Bay and well Paris definately can't act however the guys i watched it with were most impressed when she gets most of her gear off (what she does best)

Most recently I've seen: Wolf Creek: Disturbing. I don't really like this type of film but for what it was I thought it was done well enough. I can understand why it wouldn't be enough for others but it did creep me out. 40 Year Old Virgin: Good. As pointed out by most paid reviewers, it's not a teen film that the title suggest. All of the charactors are a little extreme in their own way but that's easy enough to set aside and then it becomes mostly beleivable and is a decent romantic comedy. Crash: How did this slip by un-noticed then win an award? Pretty good. Not as good as what I expect from something winning best picture but still good. It's a drama. If you don't like drama, this isn't for you. 50,000+ people liked it more than me on this site. I guessed it would have gotten between 7 and 7.3 there. |

I enjoyed '40 year old Virgin'. Felt that the 'eff' word was overused but the story was fun. The DVD I saw before it was 'Wedding Crashers' which I thoroughly enjoyed and laughed out loud in. I am watching the TV series '3rd Rock from the Sun' at the present and laugh myself silly at every episode. I forgot how funny this show was and how it always had a life lesson embedded into each episode, a lot like 'Scrubs' has. |

Supersize Me!
Though its had the oppisite effect one me, I'm sitting here totally craving a burger and large fries!
I wonder if eating Maccas for 30 days would have had the same effect on someone who was not as healthy as Morgan? Say, an average person who indulges in Maccas once or twice a week, rather than an above average fit and healthy person. |

On Easter Sunday I watched 'Fantastic Four' and loved it. Michael Chiklis is a heart throb of mine, Ioan Gruffudd pronounced YO-an GRIFF-ith, is a terrific actor whom I first saw in the ABC series as Commander Horatio Hornblower. Always love Jessica Alba who just gets better the older she gets and her brother in the movie Chris Evans whom I have never seen in anything before and whose acting carreer only began in 2000. Julian McMahon was good as the 'baddie' and funnily enough I remember when he was a toddler of three when his father, Sir William McMahon became PM of Australia. He has come a long way from a Jeans advert in the mid eighties! I didn't think Julian looked like his father until I saw the following picture. I am not a reader of comics but have picked up some knowledge from my son who is a great fan of Marvel Comics. I'm learning as I go, with these heroes of comic books. There's a Fantastic Four II on it's way.

I have just watched 'Kalifornia' with David Duchovny, Brad Pitt and Juliette Lewis. It was not a pretty movie with Brad playing the part of a killer. Juliette was fantastic as his naive and very simple girlfriend. David was a writer of Crime novels and was interested in the mind of a killer. He got more than he bargained for. Brad was a scruffy, rough and almost ugly bloke whose hygiene left a bit to be desired. David's g/f was played by Michelle Forbes. All the actors were great and Brad played 'creepy' very well. I enjoyed this movie but it's something I'd only watch once. |

This morning I watched "Four Brothers". Slow to begin with but when the pace quickened it didn't slow down for the rest of the movie. Terrific stuff. The action scenes were hold your breath stuff. Loved it. It starred Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, André Benjamin, Garrett Hedlund and Terrence Howard. The first four were the adopted sons of a wonderful woman named Evelyn Mercer played by Fionnula Flanagan. Terrence Howard's character is a Policeman. I enjoyed all the twists and turns and the double crosses and surprises in this movie. |

I have just finished watching 'Sixth Sense' with Bruce Willis. See, I still have tears in my eyes! Just as good today as when it was first released. Still love this movie and am glad I now own it. Sniff |

Underworld: Evolution
Got it this week. Loved every second of it. Vampires and Werewolves... my two most favourite horror movie components! The actors consisted of some famous and well known english actors. Love Kate Beckinsale always, such beauty as flawless as a truly english woman can be. Like horror, blood, guts and gore? Then watch this movie, it wont disappoint. |

I finally got to see Four brothers over the weekend and I loved it. The chemistry between Marky Mark, Tyrese & Andre 3000 worked perfectly.
Another film I saw was The Jacket. One of the most thought provoking films I've seen in a long time. I don't know who I would recommend this film to since it has no real audience or demopgraph it tries to appeal to but if you've seen the trailer and that catches your eye then chances are you'll probably like it. The film has many layers and you would probably have to watch it more then once but it is just as complex as it is beautiful and a nice change to the hollywood films where the plot is constantly spoon fed to the audience. |

Jarhead - surprisingly very good, gives one man's perspective of the Gulf War and what it was like to be under a cloud that rains oil. Thought it would be just another run of the mill story but it has a little something extra. Maybe a good job done on character development. Still, if you want to see the best war film, Apocalypse Now is still the best.
Lord of War - Nicholas Cage doing what he does best, dead eyes and soul character - his narration gets a bit tedious but this is as close to arms dealing as most of us will get. Recommend but you won't particularly like anyone or get attached. It's all based on someone's truth but there are huge leaps of faith. One minute, flogging off a gun - next, on a freighter selling missiles - a bit of in between stuff or Arms Dealing 101 would have been appreciated.
Walk the Line - loved it - Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are dynamite together. All the reviews you've heard are true and you don't have to be a Johnny Cash fan to enjoy it.
X-Men 3 - best of the three in my humble opinion. We know the characters and what they can do, a few new ones are thrown for good measure that don't really perpetuate much of the story - they're just cool. Just a great romp in the park. Full of big bangs, fights and the stuff we all know. Great fun. I do wish this director had gotten his mitts on the first two - he's here for a good time.

Kingdon of Heaven- Directors cut
This is the slightly longer cut of the film(the theatrical cut was about 2hrs long), the newly released(so far only available in R1) dvd of this is 3hrs 20 mins long(spread over 2 disks), and is a much better version of the film.
Ezydvd are releasing this in September in a Tin.

Lord of War with Nicolas Cage Based very closely on fact. Fantastic. Very witty at times. Very insightful into the reality of war, no matter how big or small. Very sad at times. Cast overview Nicolas Cage .... Yuri Orlov Bridget Moynahan .... Ava Fontaine Orlov Jared Leto .... Vitaly Orlov (Yuri's younger brother) Ian Holm .... Simeon Weisz Jasper Lenz .... Gregor Kobus Marx .... Boris Stephan De Abreu .... Liev Jeremy Crutchley .... Arms Fair Salesman Tanya Finch .... Ingrid Ethan Hawke .... Agent. Jack Valentine Eamonn Walker .... Andre Baptiste Sr. (My personal favourite) Sammi Rotibi .... Andre Baptiste Jr. (Scary as all hell with a gold gun) Plot Outline: An arms dealer (Cage) confronts the morality of his work as he is being chased by an Interpol agent (Hawke). Here are some very funny quotes, Nicolas showing his dry wry sense of humour as always. Andre Baptiste Sr.: Personally, I blame MTV. Yuri Orlov: There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11? Yuri Orlov: Without operations like mine it would be impossible for certain countries to conduct a respectable war. I was able to navigate around those inconvenient little arms embargos. Yuri Orlov: The first and most important rule of gun-running is: Never get shot with your own merchandise. Anatoly Orlov: Is this how you want to be remembered? Yuri Orlov: I don't want to be remembered at all. That means I'm dead. Yuri Orlov: I sell to leftists, and rightists. I sell to pacifists, but they're not the most regular customers. Andre Baptiste Jr.: Can you bring me the gun of Rambo? Yuri Orlov: Part One, Two, or Three? Andre Baptiste Jr.: I've only seen Part One. Yuri Orlov: There are two types of tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want, the other is getting it. Andre Baptiste Sr.: They say that I am the lord of war, but perhaps it is you. Yuri Orlov: I believe it's "warlord." Andre Baptiste Sr.: Thank you, but I prefer it my way. Yuri Orlov: The problem with dating dream girls is that they have a tendency to become real. Jack Valentine: I would tell you to go to hell, but I think you're already there. Simeon Weisz: Bullets change governments far surer than votes. Vitaly Orlov: [in Russian] Oh God! Yuri Orlov: [voice-over] Always resort to your native tongue in times of anger. And in times of ecstasy. Yuri Orlov: In the most AIDS-infested region of the globe - where 1 in 4 is infected - Andy's idea of a joke was to put a young Iman and a young Naomi in my bed - and no condom within a hundred miles. Yuri Orlov: They say, "Evil prevails when good men fail to act." What they ought to say is, "Evil prevails." Ava Fontaine: I feel like all I've done my whole life is be pretty. I mean, all I've done is be born! I'm a failed actress, a failed artist... I'm not much good as a mother. Come to think of it, I'm not even that pretty anymore. I have failed at everything, Yuri... but I won't fail as a human being. Andre Baptiste Sr.: Welcome to Democracy! Yuri Orlov: Democracy? What have you been drinking Andy? Andre Baptiste Sr.: Heh, you have not seen the news. You know, they accuse me of rigging elections. But after this - [holds up a newspaper with the headline "U.S. Supreme Court Reverses Recount Ruling"] Andre Baptiste Sr.: - with your Florida and your Supreme Court of Kangaroos, now, the U.S. will shut up forever! [laughs] Yuri Orlov: Every faction in Africa calls themselves by these noble names - Liberation this, Patriotic that, Democratic Republic of something-or-other... I guess they can't own up to what they usually are: a federation of worse oppressors than the last bunch of oppressors. Often, the most barbaric atrocities occur when both combatants proclaim themselves freedom-fighters. Yuri Orlov: The reason I'll be released is the same reason you think I'll be convicted. I *do* rub shoulders with some of the most vile, sadistic men calling themselves leaders today. But some of these men are the enemies of *your* enemies. And while the biggest arms dealer in the world is your boss - the President of the United States, who ships more merchandise in a day than I do in a year - sometimes it's embarrassing to have his fingerprints on the guns. Sometimes he needs a freelancer like me to supply forces he can't be seen supplying. So. You call me evil, but unfortunately for you, I'm a necessary evil. Yuri Orlov: Thank God there are still legal ways to exploit developing countries. The only problem with an honest buck is they're so hard to make - the margins are too low, too many people are doin' it. Simeon Weisz: The problem with gun runners going to war, is that there is no shortage of ammunition. Yuri Orlov: After the Cold War, the AK-47 became Russia's biggest export. After that came vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. Yuri Orlov: Of all the weapons in the vast soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947. More commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It'll shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399295/quotesEamonn Walker's character (André Baptiste Sr.) is believed to be based on as former President of Liberia Charles Taylor. TriviaThere is a real Yuri Orlov who, ironically, is a human rights activist. The high-ranking US military officer that protects Yuri is called "Colonel Oliver Southern", a pun on the name of real-life Col. Oliver North, who was involved in a scheme to fund Nicaraguan Contras via illegal arms sales to Iran. The UK DVD release of Lord of War has, prior to the film, an advert for Amnesty International, showing the AK-47 being sold on a shopping channel of the style popular on cable networks. The name Kono, which Yuri paints as the Kristol's new registry, is also the name of a diamond rich province in Sierra Leone. In 2004, the United States ranked first in arms transfer agreements with developing nations at $6.9 billion. Russia ranked second at $5.9 billion. The four West European suppliers, as a group (France, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy) registered a significant increase in their collective share of all arms transfer agreements with developing nations between 2003 and 2004. This groups share rose dramatically from 5.5% in 2003 to 22% in 2004. The collective value of this groups arms transfer agreements with developing nations in 2004 was $4.8 billion compared with a total of $830 million in 2003. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_WarI enjoyed this movie immensely even though it was very graphic.

I love Nicolas Cage and have seen every movie he has been in. I am glad my post on Lord of War has made someone curious to see it. They moved heaven and earth to get the UN to agree to getting the Tanks and trucks and antiaircraft guns out of mothballs. I think it was in Russia. They went to great lengths to make this movie authentic. |

INSIDE MANOne of THE best movies I have watched for a long long time. Spike Lee does nothing by halves. Stars... Denzel Washington .... Detective Keith Frazier Clive Owen .... Dalton Russell Jodie Foster .... Madeline White Christopher Plummer .... Arthur Case Willem Dafoe .... Captain John Darius Chiwetel Ejiofor .... Detective Bill Mitchell Tagline: It looked like the perfect bank robbery. But you can't judge a crime by its cover. Willem Dafoe plays a very minor part compared to all the other's listed above. This movie was a mystery and a thriller rolled into one. Very clever and a couple of twists at the end. Additional information and Pictures : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454848/My verdict 5 out of 5. I no sooner finished watching it and I wanted to watch it again.

"SIN CITY" I know it has been out for ages BUT.... just never had the inclination. My son demanded I watch it with him today. It was very cleverly done and very interesting. He commented it was on a par with "Pulp Fiction" but I would not go that far. If you watch it as it was intended to be watched (a comic book come to life) and take all the action with a grain of salt (especially when the characters are shot dozens of times and still don't die) then it is most enjoyable. |

Firewall (Harrison Ford), Flightplan (Jodie Foster) and Inside Job (Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster, Christopher Plummer). I enjoyed all three (even the latter, despite the frequent and unnecessary use of the "f" word).

'The Fast and the Furious-Tokyo Drift'
If Margaret Pomeranz can love this movie... then so can I! Lucas Black was first seen by me in 'Slingblade' 10 years ago now. He hails from Alabama so his southern drawl would not of been hard for him to exagerate. Lucas is now 24 and acting his bum off. Tokyo Drift was not a huge story but the thrill of watching the cars racing and the music thumping was great. It was the old story of 'Bad boy turned good wins the girl in the end' not much of a stretch for the mind but visually I loved this movie and when I went to bed I was racing cars around a multi level parking garage in Tokyo Japan! Fun to watch and the actor Sung Kang who plays Han was in Standoff recently and is gorgeous! As is Lucas who I imagine we will see onscreen for many years to come.

I watched 'Mean Creek' not long ago (Rated MA for Strong Coarse Language and Strong Themes) starring Rory Culkin. Eventhough I didnt like some of the language used, it was still quite an influential and powerful movie. Here's a plot outline:
Quoted Text
It all begins in a small Oregon town, when shy Sam (RORY CULKIN) confesses to his protective older brother Rocky that he is getting pummeled daily by the towering school bully, George. Together, they plan the perfect payback, inviting George on a birthday river trip tailor-made to end in the bully's humiliation. Rocky's pals Clyde and Marty and Sam's budding girlfriend Millie also join the journey, which starts almost immediately with misgivings. Seeing George in a new light, as a lonely kid desperate for friendship and attention, Sam wants to call the whole thing off. But the boat and the plot are already in motion, and no one can foresee the surprises and accidents that are to come.

Beavis and Butt-head: The Mike Judge Collection - Volume 1 Loads of funny episodes, and the dimwitted characters have been developed wonderfully. Surprisingly smart for a show featuring the two absolute dumbest characters on TV. Law & Order: SVU - Season One A great start to the season, and I was surprised with some of the guest appearances. Patricia Richardson (Home Improvement), the guy who played the dentist in Desperate Housewives, and Michael Nouri (Flashdance, The O.C.) made some surprise appearances in the season hehe. I still have 4 discs left to watch. Desperate Housewives - Season One A good start to the series, and some of the plots in season two make a lot more sense now. I absolutely LOVE Bree. I'd give them all an average of 7.5/10. |

Serendipity-with John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale and Jeremy Piven (who seems to pop up in lots of movies). This was a nice little film but I grew impatient toward the last 20 minutes. It was a no brainer with some very good acting.
Hitch- Will Smith, Eva Mendes and Kevin James (King of Queens). I enjoyed this movie much more than I imagined I would! Very funny at times and very watchable. |

Honestly, I can't even fathom by ANYBODY would pay such a ridiculous amount of money for a box set. I for one refuse to pay anything more than $45. I saw SVU for $39.84 a couple of weeks ago, and it actually cost me only $31. The cashier laughed when I asked for season 2 as well.

Why don't you just buy them when they're on special? Or when you have the money to pay for them? And why buy them all at once? It's not like they're going to run out of them anytime soon. |

I watched Ice Age 2 the other day and loved it. So so funny. The Iceage rat is hilarious as always. Such a terrific character to have in the movies. Last night I watched 'Crash' not knowing what to expect but knowing it had received awards and had an excellent cast. I watched it with my daughter who had seen it before. Plot summary for Crash (2004/I)Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters, a police detective with a drugged out mother and a thieving younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the white district attorney and his irritated and pampered wife, a racist white veteran cop (caring for a sick father at home) who disgusts his more idealistic younger partner, a successful Hollywood director and his wife who must deal with the racist cop, a Persian-immigrant father who buys a gun to protect his shop, a Hispanic locksmith and his young daughter who is afraid of bullets, and more. Written by Martin Lewison {dr@martinlewison.com} http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375679/plotsummaryI enjoyed this movie much much more than I ever imagined and can honestly say that once having watched it, I want to see it again! I cried several times during it. It is drama at it's best and such a rollercoaster of emotions. I can see why it won 3 Oscars and another 38 wins out of 56 nominations. |

Just after watching the first NCIS ep, I noticed that the opener is slower and quieter than the opener we have today. I like the new one better. More upbeat. |

I loved Ice Age 2, I actually thought it was better than the first one I bought the Office on dvd (British version) for $15 the other day, hadn't seen the British version before only the American but I thought for $15 what the hey, anyway I was pleasantly surprised. Jury's not out yet on which version I prefer. |

I would have bought The Office ages ago, however, while season 2 and the Xmas specials are relatively cheap, they released two versions of season one, one with and without the special features. The one with special features costs like $35. Outrageous, really. I'd like to get the boxset but $70 is a bit much. |

Run, Lola, Run a german made film spoken in german with English sub-titles. I enjoyed it once I got into it and got over Lola's boyfriend, Manni whinging and being pessimistic. Lola on the other hand is on a mission! |

War of the Worlds to pass the time away alone. Nothing like aliens before bed time! I did have a stomach turning moment when you realise the red sinew-y blood-y vein-y stuff all over the landscape and everywhere is really the left overs humans the ET's have 'consumed', yucky. I enjoyed it even if it was a bit schmaltzy at the end. As much as I want to really really dislike Tom Cruise, when he's acting, I forget what a goose he is. |

Sony Tropfest 2007 - Some solid films here, as well as some relatively high budget stuff as well. Although it would have been interesting to see the other 500 or so entries just to compare them with the finalists. My only gripe is that almost all of the 16 films on the disc had crude/vulgar humour in them (i.e. releasing bowels , farting, vomiting) 7/10 |

I'm a little surprised that there are so many of them in stores, which is a good thing. And the RRP is $29.95, so most stores will sell it even cheaper than that per season. |

I thought that film was quite funny, I think Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson work well together, just as well considering they are in so many movies together |

The other night I watched 'little Miss Sunshine'. The line up for Best Actor at the recent Oscar's must of been woeful if they gave the Oscar to Alan Arkin. The whole thing was bland. Classified as a Comedy/Drama I didn't see anything funny about it and it wasn't very dramatic either! I usually like this kind of movie and really though with this cast it would satisfy my tastes but... no. |

The Simpsons - Season Nine
During the 'A' commentary for The City of New York Vs Homer Simpson, it's stated that the episode is still not syndicated in America due to Homer being at the World Trade Centre. I think it's been played by 10 several times since 2001. That's my pointless tivia contribution done for the day.... maybe |

The Wicker Man with Nicolas Cage. I saw the original some 32 years ago and it scared me so much I forgot the storyline! This latest offering was an interesting film. Nicolas Cage IMHO is an excellent, if subdued, actor. I wouldn't say it is a great film by any stretch of the imagination but I enjoyed it, alone on a sunday morning. |

GhostriderNicolas Cage is 'Ghostrider' a Marvel Comic Character. Nic is looking way younger than his years and as good as he looked in Guarding Tess all those years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie although I had no prior knowledge as to exactly what it was about. Right up my alley. I suppose it is in the 'Horror' genre but much more horrifying than 'The Wicker Man'. |

The Prestige. I just watched it tonight and it was one of the best I've ever seen.. even though I haven't watched many movies ( I refuse to watch horror!! ). It kept me in suspense throughout the whole movie and I liked how after finishing the movie I'd piece the details I missed before. I like The Prestige better than the Illusionist. The Illusionist had more of a romantic plot and was too 'neat'. The Prestige was more dark and it kept me guessing. I think after tonight I will watch Christopher Nolan's other films.

The Queen - 4.5/5 Loved it. The only letdown for me was the ending... and Michael Sheen's constant grinning. Mr. Bean's Holiday - 2.5/5 They were clearly struggling to squeeze material into this film. The pacing was ridiculously slow, and the gags were lackluster. The experience was completely ruined with the incredibly lame ending. Not necessarily bad, but it falls short in comparison to the hilarious TV series. The deleted scenes lacked ANY funny moments whatsoever. |

Futurama: Bender's Big Score Nothing to write home about, but if you're a fan of Futurama (or you could at least appreciate it), you will no doubt enjoy this movie. Approach with caution though, as there are endlessly confusing time travel sequences which only became even more mind-boggling as the film progressed. While the TV series was never particularly funny (although it made up for it with charming characters and entertaining storylines), the movie has maintained the quality and charm of the TV series despite being off air for over 4 years. 3 1/2 stars from me. |

I got that dvd out a couple of years ago, only seen it once but I loved it. It was slow but well told and I'm glad it had a happy ending. |

On Wednesday night I watched a DVD because all that was on in SEQld was repeats or ‘State of Stupidity… Origin. I chose 'Apocalypto' and was stunned by it. Completely sub-titled I absolutely loved it and have put it into my ’10 favourites of all time’ movies. I have always had a fascination for South America, the Incas and the Aztecs, the ‘invasion’ of SA by the Spaniards and the Portuguese and the whole enchilada.

I watched the Celestine Prophecy the other day. It was good but not as good as the book was.
I've borrowed Fracture from friends who said its good. Will try watching it over the weekend. |

MONGOL about Ghengis Khan. I enjoyed the almost 2 hour movie. Spoken in Mongol and subbed in English. I found it was not in depth enough. It skimmed over so much and didn't give the full history of his conquests. I have read the history of Ghengis Khan/Timudgen and this didn't even come near to the real story. A great watch though. Loved all the actors |

I have to retract an earlier bad post on a movie I obviously didn't watch properly. Last night my HM and I watched 'Hancock', all the way through.... and I loved it. One of my fav movies. Actors were great and the movie was thoroughly enjoyable. I apologise completely for bagging this movie previously. |

I was skeptical about Hancock as well Suzi. The ads were kind of funny but I didn't hear anything about it so I assumed it had flopped. Maybe it did in the cinema... not really sure. I almost thought they weren't going to pull off the ending but it was a good job. Decent movie.
I watched Iron Man. It does need a little bit of a grain of salt attitude toward some of the action but it's pretty cool when you get past that and just watch it and try to have fun with those aspects and ignore some of the aspects that weren't very beleivable. It was easy to forgive these parts. Suppringly, I liked Downey Jr. for the role. Also enjoyable was watching Jeff Bridges in a role unlike one I've seen him take before. I didn't recognise that it was him until partway through. There wasn't an abundance of humour but it was a good style of it that was used and was pulled off well... at least the few parts I laughed at anyway, maybe there were jokes I just don't remember now because they sucked.
Also recently, Get Smart. I knew ahead of time that the character wasn't a very direct adaptation from Don Adams' role. I usually like Steve Carell but in this movie I didn't so much like what had been done with the Maxwell Smart character. I had to admit that it was actually pretty good as far as incorporating him into a modern day movie living in the world today, but something was just lacking. I think overall, I expected more out of the movie than I got, and that the problem wasn't that it was bad, but that I was expecting something that couldn't be had. In retrospect I found myself laughing at more than a few things that I was critical of while watching it. My wife hasn't seen it yet so I'm looking forward to watching it again with her and enjoying it much more the second time around. Some of the jokes I didn't like the first time are burned into my brain now and are funny when I think about them. |

COLD MOUNTAIN
Quoted Text
This Civil War saga addresses romance, friendship, and the ravages of war--both in the field and on the home front. Captures the horrors of war for both those fighting it, and for those left behind. This is a tale of hope, longing, redemption, second chances, and faith. Written by Quickflix
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0159365/plotsummaryPic 1 http://upload.moldova.org/movie/movies/c/cold_mountain/thumbnails/tn2_cold_mountain_4.jpgI must say I absolutely LOVED this movie. Renee Zellwegger (?) was fabulous and Jude Law was yummo edible and I must say, Nicole Kidman was so watchable and likable and the most stunningly beautiful I have ever seen her. The love scene between Jude and Nicole was Hot hot hot, best I have seen for..... ever. Made me flushed Loved seeing Jack White from The White Stripes playing a part in the movie. That was when him and Renee got together, became engaged and then split Renee is a serial engager. Recommend it to anyone and everyone over 15years of age.

Last night I suffered through, of my own volition, the movie 'No Country for Old Men'! Not that it was sad I am crying because I tortured myself watching such a s hit movie. OMG, the only good things about the movie were Tommy Lee Jones, the horses and the pitt bull terrier dogs! |

Futurama : Bender's Game
The weakest of the three Futurama movies released thus far, but still a solid effort. The plot became extremely cluttered and almost incomprehensible in the second half of the film where it'd become a random string of fantasy battle sequences.
Three stars. |

William Moseley looks just like Sam Clark (Ringo on Neighbours). You'd need to see the movie to really get it, but http://www.imdb.com/media/rm33658880/nm0608440(Narnia, Prince Caspian) The movie was OKAY.. oh and the other boy bears an awful resemblance to Zeke from Neighbours in some scenes :O |

On Friday I watched most of 'Gone with the Wind' with my fem-HM. Loved it because I approached it like a black comedy! OMG the melodrama, the over acting. Hilarious. Then on Saturday I watched 'Leatherheads' with George Clooney and Renee Zellwegger. FABULOUSLY entertaining and funny. Fast paced, terrific acting. Love movies set in this time. I am becoming a fan of Renee's later films. |

"He's just not that into you!" Watched it last night, a bit of fluff as far as entertainment goes. Enjoyable, a little drawn out, a bit tedious at times and forgettable but still fun in bits. I really don't like Jennifer Connolly. The character's I loved were the one played by Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Aniston, Scarlet Johansson. All the guys were great. Especially Drew's squeeze Justin Long. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1001508/ |

I recently splurged and bought all 3 seasons of Love My Way, an Australian drama starring Claudia Karvan which aired on Foxtel throughout its run.
I'm done with the first season and I shall be moving onto the second season tonight. |

I think the sale is Australia wide and if you buy 3 specially marked movies you get to enter into a competition for a $600+ blu-ray player! It's on in Queensland as well! |

What for the highly cerebral storyline??? I'd say porn would have a better plot! |

Red Eye! Thoroughly enjoyed it and was very happy to see the villain of the piece get his just desserts!Cillian Murphy is a very odd looking but compelling actor who was born in Ireland and is 34 years old. He is in the Leo DiCaprio movie, Inception. He played a very good baddie. Enjoyed watching Rachel McAdams who I cannot remember seeing in anything before... just checked she was in 'The Wedding Crashers' but I cannot remember her. |
