| I've thought they are pretty funny. Then again I thought Mcallaf (or whatever his name is) was funny. I think Merrick and Rosso have more of an appeal though. It would make sense to me that they would be doing better than Macallif (try a differant spelling) in the sense that if I compare them to Rove and to Macallif, they would hit Rove's audience better. It isn't much though, saying that they are better than someone who got cancelled so quickly and that they have a few veiwers of someone who is doing well. I'm pretty horrible at picking what will get cancelled but I figure they will do at least a total of 10 episodes. I think the big hurdle for the show is that if it hits a down spot for just 2 to 3 weeks then it will get cancelled and that it will be hard for them to keep it from getting old quickly. Right now I like it. |

I haven't seen much of this show because I won't watch anything that clashes with The Panel, but this reminds me of another experiment by channel 9, the good ol' Mick Molloy Show, where a bunch of comedians just sat around and chatted about nothing with no script whatsoever.
Channel 9 got rid of that after 5 shows. Maybe they'll do the same with M&R, but I surely hope not. Then again it's no loss to channel 9. It doesn't look like it costs them much money (other than M&R's fee).
I miss the days of M&R on Triple J. I don't get to Sydney much, but I listen to em every morning I'm up there. I luv em |

| So where are you people from then, if you don't get Triple J? I mean, I'm in a fairly small country town with a population of 7436 (according to the website), and it gets broadcast here. I don't listen to it, but we do get it here. I was just curious, because I thought it got broadcast more or less Australia-wide. Maybe it's just NSW. |

Merrick & Rosso were on Triple J's drive time (3pm to 6pm) time slot for several years from memory with lots of hilarious segments and they were the best thing on Triple J to me besides the music, and even a CD of clips from the show was produced called Choice Cuts. When I moved from Sydney to Canberra I thought that I would always be able to hear the comedy duo no matter where I went.
Then a couple of years ago Merrick & Rosso said that they were leaving Triple J because their heart wasn't in it anymore or something like that. Then they conveniently picked up a spot at Nova 96.9 FM in Sydney on the breakfast show. So every time I head back to Sydney, I try to give them a listen in the mornings. I don't care if they sold out... they're still the funniest thing on radio (ever since Martin Molloy left).
If this TV show was on the ABC or even channel 10, it would go for a full season for sure, but I don't have confidence in channel 9. Just look at Micallef Tonight and Rove. Channel 9 sure did make a stupid decision in axing Rove. Channel 10 is cashing in like anything on Rove now. Channel 9 also made a similar stupid decision in axing Seinfeld and selling it to channel 10, but that's another story. Shaun Micallef will probably head back to the ABC, where his rightful place is, and not around ratings-hungry people like Kerry Packer.
Packer axed Micallef, Molloy (The Mick Molloy Show), and Mulray (Doug Mulray's Naughtiest Home Videos from memory), so Packer doesn't like the M's it seems. Is there a trend with Merrick & Rosso? I hope not. |
