Young Mel Gibson to be cloned for new movie!Friday 5 May 2000 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
Mel Gibson, soon to be striding about on multiplex screens as a Revolutionary War hero in The Patriot, has a couple of offers on the table.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Gibson has been in talks to star in the sci-fi thriller Gemini, in which a hit man is followed by a younger clone of himself.
Word is that Mel would star in both roles, and that the Disney special-effects house, Secret Lab, has been conducted screen tests using footage of Gibson from The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) and last year's Payback. This seems sort of cruel - hey, all of us looked better in 1982 - but Hollywood is a harsh town. Gemini is on the fast track at Touchstone, but doesn't yet have a production start date.
Also, blue-eyed Mel is being wooed for Endurance, an epic drama about polar explorer William Shackleton, reports Variety. Wolfgang Petersen (The Perfect Storm, Air Force Once,Das Boot), who seems to have a special interest in various forms of transportation, would direct.
