Viewer choice for Seven in the digital eraTuesday 14 December 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
According to Sofcom's IT site (http://www.sofcom.com.au/technews), the Seven Network has outlined some of the broadcasting innovations it hopes to introduce in 2001.
A Seven consultant told the Productivity Commission that Seven was considering eight options for program enhancements. Seven is hoping to offer enhanced television news services through the provision of extra coverage of local news stories. Meanwhile, a Seven director, Bill Rayner, said Seven believed that to encourage consumers to switch to digital television they must be offered more than just higher-definition (HD) pictures.
The ability of Australian TV networks to provide enhancement could be threatened if they were forced to broadcast a HD signal together with a standard-definition (SD) signal.
