| 'Hello? Hi ABC! What does 'cancelled' mean?'
|
It's that time of year again. The Upfronts are here, and all the clueless network execs and advertisers are getting together to decide our collective fate. All the decisions about next season's line-ups have been made, and now it's time to get the lowdown. Are we going to have anything worth watching? Are beloved shows going to return? Are we going to bitch and moan all season like we did this one? Find out this week as we bring you the upcoming line-ups as they're announced. Included in this installment are ABC, NBC, and the WB.
ABC
ABC has only two new comedies and three new dramas coming up next season, but they've changed the shows in 8 pm timeslots on six different nights, meaning only one 8PM timeslot will be familiar. The following shows either ended this season or have been cancelled: Home Improvement, Brother's Keeper, Two of a Kind, and Vengeance Unlimited. Please take a moment to realize what this means. Yes, friends, the Olsen twins will not be returning for a second season. A devastating blow.

NBC
NBC is doing a complete about face with next season's line-up. As opposed to this past season, which was overly laden with formulaic comedies and sitcoms, the fall will bring five new dramas and only two new sitcoms. Plenty of series have ended or been cancelled, too. Those that will not be returning are: Homicide: Life on the Street, NewsRadio, Working, Everything's Relative, Lateline, Caroline in the City, Mad About You, and Conrad Bloom. Did anyone actually watch Conrad Bloom?
Four other shows will also start midway through the season. The midseason series are: Sammy (the animated show with David Spade), God, the Devil, and Bob, The Others (from DreamWorks), and M.Y.O.B. Oh, and there will be the usual movies and specials, including one about the Virgin Mary.

A few shows were cancelled, including Sister, Sister (which had been on for six seasons), The Smart Guy, The Wayans Brothers, Unhappily Ever After, Hyperion Bay and Rescue 77. Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane is on order as a backup series. Who thinks of the names for these shows?
