USA Plans Local Frontline ComedyWednesday 30 June 1999 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
It was only a matter of time before some USA television network wised up and supported a show that parodies news mags like America's Dateline (shown here on 7), 20/20 (here on 9),and 60 Minutes (the USA version on CBS). After all, how difficult is it to watch Stone Phillips, Mike Wallace, or Sam Donaldson report a story and keep a straight face?
The show, to be called This Week Has Seven Days, was created by Daily Show alums Lizz Winstead (who helped to develop The Daily Show) and Brian Unger (a former correspondent), will hopefully come to a television near you during the mid-season.
If the show catches on it will be a victory for Winstead, who left The Daily Show last year when Craig Kilborn trashed her in an interview. A. Whitney Brown, a SNL and Daily Show alumnus, will serve as chief correspondent, while Unger plans to perform anchor duties.
