It has to be the surprise TV sensation of the year.

Popstars gained the number 1 spot in this week's ratings, according to ACNielson. The fly on the wall series shot to the top after the usual two suspects, Nine's Friends and Spin City bowed out for a week due to the Oscars (which also won its timeslot).

Nine still won the entire week with 33.1% of the audience. Seven came in second with 29.2, Ten scored 20.3, ABC 14.3 and SBS 3.2
