Ten News goes PrimetimeWednesday 4 December 2002 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
In what must be the shock announcement of the TV Silly Season, Network Ten is launching a prime-time News service.
To rival ABC's main bulletin, Ten News will air at 7pm each weeknight over the summer. It will be produced from Ten's Melbourne newsroom and will be hosted by respected newsreader Mal Walden.
Ten's news manager Dermot O'Brien says initially it will be simply a summer fill-in for viewers who aren't home for the First at Five news, and will not set out to rival the ABC.
"ABC 7 o'clock viewers are a loyal audience," Mr O'Brien said. "This is a commitment to Ten's viewers"
