Network Ten has commissioned a new Australian drama series produced by Hal McElroy and Columbia Tristar. Above The Law, a one-hour weekly series from the creators of Blue Heelers, Water Rats and Murder Call will commence production in September 1999, and will be filmed in Sydney.
To air on Network Ten in 2000, Above The Law is a character-driven drama series set in an apartment block featuring a police station on the ground floor (Number 96 meets Copshop?). The cast will consist of a diverse range of roles, with the core being young characters.
"We are looking forward to working with the respected and talented McElroy team, and anticipate another popular Australian program for our audiences in 2000," said Channel 10 Network Programming Director, David Mott.
Casting is currently underway and will combine some fresh new faces along with some established Australian actors. Columbia Tristar will be distributing the series internationally.
"Columbia Tristar is delighted to be co-producing and distributing this new Australian drama with Network Ten and McElroy Television. This represents a very significant step forward in our Australian production activities. We look forward to this series becoming a long running successful show for Ten and internationally," said Managing Director of Columbia Tristar Australia, Jack Ford.
