Word from The Movie Franchise That Won't Die.
We're talking Rocky, of course, and writer/star Sylvester Stallone tells Entertainment Weekly that he's completed the screenplay for Rocky 6 -- and having a wee feud with MGM over it.
The studio, which owns the franchise, wants to see the script, but Stallone's not showing it until they bump up their proposed budget of $10 million.
"We need at least $20 or $22 million to do it . . . I mean, you gotta pay [Rocky's wife] Talia Shire something," said the gentlemanly Stallone to EW.
And he won't give too much detail on the plot but says that Rocky is "aging and broke" (no, really) but gets back in the ring to raise money for a Christian youth association.
"I've tried to emulate a few things in reality, such as the George Foreman story," says Stallone.
The actor will next film the race-car drama Champs for director Renny Harlin, but is anxious to keep Rocky alive. "It's already been 10 years since Rocky V," Stallone told EW. "What are you going to do, wait 20 years? It's now or never."
We vote for the latter.
