This is more of a commentary than a breaking news story but I have just finished watching both Sunday Footy Shows and can say without a doubt that the Seven show, hosted by Rex Hunt, is the best of the two.
The only two good things about the Nine show are Max Walker and Dermot who demonstrate how to host and report. The others are trying to talk over each other and keep trying to "top" the panel with their own brand of humour; most of which falls flat.
Sam Newman, with his new husky voice seems to be losing the momentum that made him such a wonderful personality to watch in recent years. It seems that Sam is trying to establish himself as the "final word" in football commentary, while at the same time, trying to establish his humour and sarcasm above all others.
This used to work fine but has grown stale and tiresome.
Rex and the gang on "Footy's Home Ground" are both professional and entertaining without resorting to the name-calling so prevelant on the Nine show. Maybe Harvey Silver, the executive producer at Nine, should take back control of the show. In past years his guiding hand seemed to control the show much better.
I guess we are all still missing Ted and his verbal jousts with Sam.
If the Nine show is what we could have expected with a Nine win in Footy (and not forgetting the ego maniac, Eddie McGuire), then I am certain that the powers to be at the AFL saw the same thing and didnt' want their game taken to the low levels aptly demonstrated by Nine.
Keep up the good work Rex and Bruce. Thanks for bringing us Football as it should be presented.
