Stop! In The Name Of Poor Ticket SalesWednesday 12 July 2000 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
The much hyped Supremes 'reunion' tour, criticised from the beginning as nothing more than a over-priced, less-than-Supreme rehash of the original 60's pop supergroup, is now nothing more than a nasty nostalgic memory.
The Return to Love tour has just been cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales.
The trouble began when Diana Ross, who last toured with the Supremes in 1970, snubbed founding members Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong (who replaced the late Florence Ballard). Skeptical fans shied away from seeing the latest line-up, now featuring Scherrie Payne and Lynda Lawrence, who both joined the Supremes after Ross had left the group.
Ross is reportedly "severely disappointed".
