Funny man Steve Martin has been named as the host of the 73rd annual Academy Awards.
The actor, who is taking over the high profile job from Billy Crystal, accepted the job last week. Gil Cates, producer of the Oscar telecast, made the announcement, adding that Martin's many talents made him a perfect applicant for the job.
Martin has recently completed filming of the black comedy Novocaine opposite Helena Bonham Carter.
