The master of nightmares, Stephen King, is fast becoming 'publisher's worst nightmare' by releasing another book online - all for only one US dollar.

As of last Monday, readers can bypass publishers and booksellers by downloading the first installment of his new book, The Plant, with the option of 'read first, pay later'. However the author claims the whole process will work on an honour system - he will only release the second installment if 75 per cent or more readers pay up.

King made history in March of this year when he released the story Riding The Bullet online. The story was an instant smash, shattering all previous download records.
