One of Hollywood's most stable and durable couples, Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher, have announced the end of their twelve year relationship.

The couple met in 1988, while Cypher was still married to actor Lou Diamond Phillips (whom she soon divorced) and was working as an assistant director on an Etheridge music video.

In a joint statement issued by Etheridge's record label, Island, the couple have declared their utmost love and respect for one another regardless of the breakup.
