Something To Switch Networks In The USThursday 24 July 1997 By eBroadcast Staff and agencies.
No, the 'something' is not just rumor or press buzz, but the canceled NBC show, Something So Right. ABC President Jamie Tarses may have found a nifty way to grab the series away from NBC, who now wants it back.
Here's how it goes: NBC canceled the sitcom in the spring but had second thoughts this summer, when the show began winning its time slot in homes and among adults 18-49, which is both ABC and NBC's covetted demographic. Then Universal TV, which produces the show, let the stars out of their contracts. One of the leads, Jere Burns Dear John), struck a deal at ABC. Now in order for NBC to resurrect
the show, Tarses would need to let Burns out of his ABC contract. But that didn't (and won't) happen, so now ABC is close to picking up the family sitcom from producers Judd Pillot and John Peaslee, who say they'll return to the show if the deal goes through. This would represent a significant victory for Jamie Tarses.
Something So Right airs on the Ten Network following Mad About You making for a wonderful hour of comedy on Wednesday evenings. I’m looking forward to the continuation of the series and am happy that ABC is going to be the network of record for this one.
