Sex/Life, one of Network Ten's popular shows, produced independently by
Beyond Entertainment is cancelled. The shows cancellation comes weeks after
Communication and the Arts Minister, Senator Richard Alston demanded a
rethink of sex and nudity on the television screens.
The four remaining episodes will still go to air. Alston had apparently told the Senate that
the Government would "not tolerate broadcasters pushing envelopes of the
codes or not complying with them".
The industries change comes before the controversial Digital TV debate due in two weeks. Brian Harradine, the Tasmanian Independent who holds the balance of power in the Senate, told
the Senate that Sex/Life was "gratuitous pornography". Alston denied
applying pressure to Ten to have the show removed.
The show which started
out as Sex, hosted by Sophie Lee in 1992 on the Nine Network, has had a
checked history. The shows presenter, Alyssa Jane Cook, the shows host and
26 others including Reporters and Crew had been sacked from the Show.
